Interesting to see which players clearly caught the eye during the game judging from Ellie Prospects Trending players function. 6 GB players in the list and, I suspect, four relieved teams that are probably glad that they got their players locked down for next year before the WC. Meanwhile Kirk and Whistle's agents sit back and smile... ![](//storage.proboards.com/2117204/thumbnailer/DlGceluKZxSsKZQfXgPw.png)

Whistle will be interesting, not sure if Bowns is undisputed number 1 starter. Wonder if we will be in for Whistle.

Losing 4-2 to Canada is no disgrace and we took the lead. Also our PowerPlay looked pretty good.
I know it's catch 22 but it does feel that we are playing not to get too hammered, it felt that we was playing too defensively that you was just waiting for Canada to score as in when not if they was going to score.
If we play Finland close then who knows what will happen against the likes of Norway

Belfast should really commit to Whistle being their starting NM.

I was really impressed with how GB were well drilled and delivered what was a clear game plan for trying to restrict Canada. I think we stuck to task really well throughout the whole game.
I think it was to disallow the first goal, there was seemingly contact at some point with the goalies, glove, helmet and stick. Was great that we didn’t let it phase us and get back at it to take the lead.
Absolutely no shame in that end result and we need to keep up those effort levels in the remaining games & we’ll be giving teams a good run for their money.

Only GB player to come out of that game with a + rating? The defensive liability that is Ben O’Connor.

Yikes. 0-6 already. That's a scoreline that's not going to do us any favours if it comes down to separating teams
We kept it tight in the first period but 5 unanswered in the second has the potential to hurt us

Bowns’ worst ever game in a GB shirt? Suddenly, yesterday’s result is just that. GB will do well to stay up.

From the IIHF game report... "To put things in historical perspective, Great Britain’s only two Worlds wins over Finland occurred respectively prior to the 1952 Helsinki Summer Olympics (6-3 on 17 March, 1951) and the 1962 release of “Love Me Do” as the Beatles’ first single (7-5 on 5 March 1962). The British haven't scored on Finland in the 21st century. When they returned to the Worlds in 2019 after a 25-year absence, they fell 5-0 to the Finns that year in Kosice, Slovakia, and 6-0 in Tampere in 2022. Finland's shutout streak against Great Britain currently sits at 187:07." www.iihf.com/en/events/2024/wm/news/60868/fin-gbrWow, 187-7! I'd start Whistle next game for sure

An 8 nil hammering unfortunately. Maybe back to Whistle for the next game...? Then again Finland seem to take the World Championships very seriously, unlike Canada who seem to turn up every year with their “C” team. 🙄

Dread to think how many times record-holding, defending champions Canada would win the thing if they started taking it seriously ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

The most important thing is to get a bloody smile out of Bedard. Does he ever smile, the stuck up piece of …….. Why does it make him stuck up, didn’t realise you knew him so well to pass that judgement! Imagine he smiled and celebrated goals against the lower teams he’d be accused of taking the mick. He just seems to be going about his business, his job is scoring goals and making plays, maybe he’s just trying to remain humble whilst he does it.

Only 8 players currently on NHL contracts Canada's NHL experience - 7797 games, 24 players, 18 with at least 100 games. Their entire squad are on NHL contracts. Almost all their squad have previously won gold or silver medals at either the full world championship level or at the U20 or U18 level. Yeah, that really seems like bringing their C team in comparison to Finland 😂😂

If you think what they’ve got is anywhere remotely near their best team then perhaps you best have another look. 🤣🤣

Still arguing that that's Finland best squad I take it? Nope I’m saying Canada don’t take it seriously enough, even Don Cherry said the same thing a few years ago. You’ve just become far too accustomed to being happy accepting a team not doing all it could.
