Once again the victims of bad luck hitting the bar in OT but also shot ourselves in the foot too with the bad pass that led to the blaze equaliser. Another game we should’ve won really. I’m really not keen on Stojanovic though. For a starting NM he has the most gaping 5-hole I think I’ve seen and it keeps getting exploited Thought Hugo Roy was outstanding Is it bad luck though or bad finishing ? Can’t really blame a bad pass on bad luck and to keep missing the target isn’t always bad luck either. Whilst Lemay has scored a few he doesn’t half seem to be missing some chances. I was very surprised to see before yesterdays game Lemay has the second worst plus/minus stat in the whole EIHL at minus 20. That’s not good.

I said we shot ourselves in the foot

Are we the only team that has power breaks? They seem to kill our momentum sometimes and give the other team time to regroup and right there wrongs. We are, but they’re also a revenue stream for us. From what I assume by watching them: Motorpoint sponsor the one in the 1st period (car advert) The pizza company sponsor the pass-the-pizza in the 2nd period A recruitment company sponsor the dance cam in the 3rd. I’d rather we didn’t have them, however at least the club is getting something in return for them. Are Panthers really the only one now? I agree, but can see the commerciality. The momentum argument works both ways. There are times when it's been like an extra time out for us.

And I’ll bet the sponsors all think that everybody watches their adverts. When in reality people either get their phone out, start talking, go to get a drink or nip to the loo. Thank God you're back. Now we can look forward to the welcome total demise of the entire advertising industry. It's just so obvious the whole thing just doesn't work at all, ever, when you say it like that. And anyway, phones, loos and pubs/bars are full of adverts too... And I thought the drinks were too expensive so no-one buys them?

And didn’t one goal last night get deflected in off Norrish’s backside so that wasn’t bad luck. Over a season luck mostly evens out.

Yes I’m well aware of that once again you use the circumstances to fit your agenda as you always do. I know this team has its shortcomings. Some of them created by things outside our control (AJ, psychological trauma, long injury list) and some which we could and should have done something about (bringing in adequate replacements). But it seems that when you’re down the rub of the green just never seems to go your way in the key moments. I’ve always thought the argument that luck evens itself out is absolutely crap. If it did we’d all win the lottery once each

But shots on target are not much good if they’re straight at the goalies chest. Perhaps Valentino and Watling are just more accurate at aiming for the corners or inside the posts. I’m just pointing out poor stats and what I read, only recently I’ve read a few times Lemay hit the bar,hit the post, missed “a sitter” or missed a “gaping goal”. On the other hand Roy is rather good at putting away chances on the breakaway.

I said we shot ourselves in the foot Regarding Lemay. Yes his +/- is bad but not unsurprising as an offensively minded forward who spends most TOI among forwards on a losing team. And your right about the bad luck on Lemay pantherlee as the +/- isn't the relevant stat for the previous posters argument about missing a lot. In fact, had the stats relevant for that been chosen they would have completely undercut that poster's point... The relevant statistic for that posters point would be the percentage of his shots which are recorded as being on target? And which are then converted into goals? For Lemay that is 67.9% of his shots being on target Valentino who leads the league in scoring only manages 57% Watling who leads the way in scoring for league leaders Steelers is on 58% And the two leading players last year who we'd have snapped up in a heartbeat... Conway last year only managed 57%, and Tedesco 64% So his percentage suggests he's quite the sniper in terms of accuracy. Similarly his conversion rate indicates it's not bad finishing At the moment about 13% of Lemay's SOG are being converted into goals but that is comparable to both Valentino and Watling (13-14%). Conway and Tedesco averaged about 17% last year but on league leading teams so getting into more high percentage areas. In short, he has one of the most accurate shots we've seen for a while and converts them at an average rate for the league despite being in a league losing team.

Roy and Niemenan have similarly good rates. 63% and 61% on target and 16% and 14% conversion rates. Though they're primarily playing 1st line not 2nd
But we're not getting the scoring production throughout the squad we'd need and are shipping too many goals to climb currently. But last night felt like an unfortunate outcome rather than an inevitable one.

We’ve got virtually no secondary scoring at the moment, over the last few weeks Roy, Nieminen and Lemay have been the only players getting the goals. I don’t know why we don’t try them as a line to try and get more goals from Lemay at 5 on 5
Shuffle the rest of the lines and see if we can get some secondary scoring at the same time

If you look at the top of league in Sheffield they have 8 players that are over or around a PPG which would normally be plenty enough on its own but further down the lines you got the likes of Simpson, Allen, Shudra and Whistle are contributing well with points whereas we have… Welsh - 1+6 in 24 league games Anderson - 2+4 in 30 Kelsall - 2+2 in 29 (Although playing D recently) Neilson 0+4 in 30 Farley - 0+2 in 11 Pare - 0 points in 8 These players may work hard but they just don’t have the quality. Added to that when they’ve been playing on lines with the likes of Roy, Nieminen, Lemay, Michaud it brings their numbers down because it’s they’re got getting the scoring chances from them because they haven’t got that pass in them or when they are being fed by the better players they aren’t putting it in the net so it brings other assist numbers down

Yes, I feel we’re missing another line who can score regularly. Personally, I’d be pleased if Roy and Nieminen returned next season, they’ve shown quality this season and I think as part of an effective top 6 we’d do well. But it’s whether they want to return

I firmly believe AJ would have been a top player for Panthers. It’s thoroughly heartbreaking.

His points total is ok and he does have an eye for a pass, but 2 goals from a top 6 forward highlights our struggles

I wouldn’t mind him back on the third line maybe covering second line with injuries

I personally feel the roster is missing an entire top line. I think we had one. If we didn’t lose AJ and that top was together for the season I’d like to bet that all of them would be on a PPG At the time of Adam's death we had 4 players in the top 10 across the league for scoring and 6 in the top 20. And this was having played big 4 teams as regularly as any of the other arena teams had. And yes we had 5 at PPG level already.

I firmly believe AJ would have been a top player for Panthers. It’s thoroughly heartbreaking. Everything suggests you're very very right about that. His SOG to goal conversion rate was a staggering 19% at the time of his death. And the top line was flying and the second line was doing much, much better than it is now

The roster is certainly missing some top 6 forwards. A top line pretty much. Although I think Roy could play top line with 2 better players. Our top 6 dont really come close to matching teams that will compete at the top. The fact that the top teams shut down our 2nd line and almost all other scoring tells us that, regardless of how they score agsinst the rest. Again, being the broken record I am I dont believe any of the players are bad players. There just needs to be some quality added and that means making room. Next season id like to see us keep the same Brit set up, unless we can tempt a Perlini or somebody. Stay with the 1 spare and roate in for injuries and team balance. However we make them up id certainly keep Tetlow & Hazeldine then have 10 import forwards on the books. If we want to compete Id suggest keeping perhaps 5 of the forwards. Luciani needs a bit more time to prove what he can do though.
