Will DOPs look at it and make a statement?

Will DOPs look at it and make a statement? I would have thought that's a definite No. The tragic outcome is way outside their remit. That is the role of the official coroners inquest that was automatically triggered by Adam's passing. Any statement from DOPS would be inappropriate and potentially prejudicial to that process. I don't think there's a player in the league who would want DOPS to weigh in on this prior to the result of the inquest.

Quite right too. It doesn’t read well that the EIHL and EIHA are not properly aligned, it’s about time they got their act together.

Perhaps that'll be made public too. There will be a much broader piece of work to do i'm sure. I'm certain the coroner doesn't have a full experienced knowledge of hockey. It mentions the IIHF recomendations for example, however it doesn't state that they arn't mandatory in IIHF competitions. Investigating by looking at the best league in the world and speaking to some experts will likely be looked at to form the response. We may then see a UK body decide they must be mandatory here regardless of the rest of the world.

Its a recommendation nothing more or less, nothing needs to be aligned.

I think Iggy was making the point that a UK body already has made them mandatory after these events: the EIHA has said they'll be mandatory from the 1st of Jan (with the delay purely so teams aren't penalised due to supply issues in the meantime) but he was also pointing out that the EIHL isn't governed by the EIHA so that mandatory ruling only covers the leagues below the EIHL. I think it's that disparity that he is highlighting here So, to answer your point, a UK body already has decided to make them mandatory regardless the rest of the world. However, it just doesn't make it mandatory for the EIHL at this stage Other countries have previously gone this route in the past, but with the difference that their top league is also under the same governing body so the rules apply there too

Good post. I find it incredible that the UK has several different bodies in ice hockey and yet non of them seem on the same page. If I was a foreign player or agent etc reading that I’d be looking at the EIHL and thinking it was some sort of “wildcard league” that makes up its own rules and ignores the sports governing bodies.
