No complaints at all and at the end of the day despite spending two more periods playing well above anything we had any right to and the far better team won. All four on-ice officials missed or left loads of calls both ways and when the final buzzer went I was just pleased to be leaving (just in time for a major bust-up next to us in the Indian to cap off a great night). Really can't complain about the player's effort as I have never ever seen any Panthers team work so hard to the point of exhaustion. Just makes you realize what we could have done in past years with even half the effort this team puts in. At the end of the day, I think we have four players that if upgraded on then this team would be transformed. Carozza, Hedberg, Baillargeon, and Tousignant. Carozza and Hedberg would struggle to get into any other EIHL team without being gassed in weeks, Baillargeon is either scoring goals or completely missing (MASSIVE as in seismic downgrade on Guptill who was a far better one-trick pony) and although Tousignant is entertaining and willing to have teeth knocked out on any given night he adds nothing else to the squad at all. I would also move Kelsall on and give Jack Hopkins his ice time now too. Top of the list though would have to be Doucet. He bought into the Wallace boring one-on-one style of play and must have the worst contacts in the entire league. Cut him loose and burn the boat. Plenty of effort from all and I now think we are seeing that this team doesn't need binning entirely(not that i'm desperate to keep any of them). Id argue we should be looking to keep 4 import forwards max. Welsh will return with his uni deal and on a better team I think we'll see him at his best, Ideally on the 2nd line. Then take your pick of another 3 to help make up the bottom 6. Probably Lane, Boivin +1. After that we need to see an entire new top line as upgrades on the rest. Richards is a prime example of where we need to upgrade. A player I enjoy watching as he works he nuts off, a great defensive forward on this team. The thing is he has next to no production and cant do the role of protecting his team mates. He is the kind of player you should be able to find a brit to forefil the role. That leads on to argueably Panthers biggest problem and area in need of major upgrade, the Brit pack. Some great effort and work ethic, a couple of players I really like but ultimately lacks a real quality point scorer and a top end Dman.

It’s not just the forwards, look at the Panthers D quality overall and then where’s the bid stud in there. Then look at the stud D of the big 3 teams.....Register, Reinhardt,Ellerby.

I wouldn't go anywhere near Lane if it was me i think he's been a massive disappointment. Welsh we know is coming back. I'd maybe keep Boivin but still won't be overly bothered if he goes. I quite like Brassard so i'd be happy if he returned but no one else. Matheson looks like age has caught up with him and Thow is just appallingly bad

I just couldn't be bothered to go onto the D too. Matherson will likely retire and Thow needs upgrading for sure. Brassard is the one import on the entire team I would be sad to see leave to be honest. I like Norrish too but its all about balance and where we can upgrade. Massy has been good since coming in also. Id happily see Massy and Brassard return with the resr of the D upgraded. Again though, for balance we could do with adding a top brit Dman. A lot also depends on roster sizes and import levels too.

Matheson looks like age has caught up with him and Thow is just appallingly bad I spent many months thinking Lane was a waste of space but I feel he has improved a little. Im really not too fussed on any of them but keeping a few to make up the bottom end may have some benefits as opposed to starting from scratch. If nothing else their work ethic could rub off on the new signings. We have enough on this roster to provide secondary scoring with improvements made in other areas.

From the import forwards you can pick any 3 of them (except Hedberg)for second and third line players as that is what they all are. Then sign a first line of quality forwards with the higher skill sets. Also a Big physical forward for the second or third line in the mould of a Kelsy Wilson or Kevin Bergin type of player.

The final score didnt reflect the game, for 50 mins we kept up with them, and then in the last 10 the opposition stepped it up and we couldn't match. I think if we could have gone ahead then it might have been a different result. Tousignant gets hit into the boards, then punched with no retaliation but gets called, poor. Was glad to see him take his retribution and win (suprisingly). Burst might be the 'hot' goalie at the moment but when he goes down I thought that ainscough crane hire was going to have to come and get him on his skates.
Very strange officiating from calls where there seemed to be no offence, not calling offences such as Massey having his stick pulled from his hands and thrown away, missing offsides, etc. Poor officiating does effect games, not only the result, but the way players react, if you have infractions not being called then that can lead to dangerous play, if they are calling offences that haven't happened then players will try and draw a penalty by feigning a reaction.
Overall it was a much improved performance and game to go to, and considering how they played against teams earlier in the season getting tonked by a hatful to it being they look better; Whistle's influence, has to be because it wasnt there before. Following comments on Hedberg, he looks lost, he knows he isnt scoring (he hasnt been a prolific scorer in his career) and I would like to think that once he gets his first then more will follow. Norrish's goal was a beauty.
There is a fair amount of skill in the team but it not to the level of other teams. Who should stop and who goes? Stay Welsh (because he is on a two year) Betteridge, Kelsall, poss Brassard. Rest can go; but who do you replace the brits with? Tetlow, Hazeldine if you could tempt him. Myers, anyone.

Brit wise it's really about adding to what we have depending on the rules next season. Tetlow can stay but clearly we need a replacement for Steve Lee. Myers is probably ready for retirement so we need to try to tempt a top forward from somewhere. If Roster sizes go back up perhaps Myers can stay on the 4th line.
