As a Giants fan for the very first time in a long time I wasn't overly worried about going into Nottingham, a venue that I have felt cursed in a number of times. From watching the Giants against Cardiff a few weeks back I felt that they dominated that game and potentially could do the same against the Panthers. The question was always going to be whether or not they could get past a hot goalie. Certainly what could only be described as a Manchester Bounce of the boards gave the Giants momentum but I thought for the rest of the game Carr played a great game. It simply seemed to be that the Panthers just weren't up for the game tonight but suspect it might be different next game. If I was Nottingham I wouldn't be rushing too quickly into mass changes. A one of game no matter what the score should only be taken as that, a one off game. The measure of the team will be how they respond. If I was a Giants fan that's exactly what I'd be saying too. 'Panthers, just keep things as they are' !

The ceiling must be higher than I guessed as the Giants are not a cheap team Ironically it was brought in to reign in the two other 'big' teams as they had spent significantly more than they had tended to in the past. It was felt the gap was getting too wide. Not knocking the Giants as it's a long season but Keefe has put together a very special team there

Absolutely nothing to take away from that that’s positive. We were slow in transition, abysmal in our own end and toothless in theirs. The way the league has fallen with results it’s not the end of the world (as in no one is breaking away without having player more games.) but it’s difficult to see anything but a long season of struggle on the back of that. I think that would have happened in any game since the season started. Last night the Giants were a league above us and completely shut us down. If during the season we manage to beat the Giants while they are playing like that Wallace would have done very very well.

I called them to win the league so we'll see I guess.

For me it was one if not the worst performance I have ever seen. Outshot easily first period and most shots were from wide and distance. We created few clear cut chances and lacked ideas. We lacked skill on the puck - Oh for a Jade Galbraith. We lacked cohesion. They were quicker to the breakdowns and usually out muscled us. The defence looked open and always likely to concede. There didnt appear to be much quality out on the ice. I think back to the treble winning side and how many of this line up would get in. Panthers improved in the competition just completed, but it seems that there is a big gap between us Sheffield, Cardiff and Belfast. It has been pointed out that players can be brought in, but that becomes increasingly difficult as the season progresses. Its difficult to gage how good a coach Wallace is. We go back to the old chestnut on what the owners are prepared to back the coach with a budget on the same scale as others. Its a pessimistic outlook, but are we looking at a fight for 4th, with 5th and 6th being possibilities. I would love to be wrong, but there seems a gulf between where we are and where we should be.

Its a pessimistic outlook, but are we looking at a fight for 4th, with 5th and 6th being possibilities. I would love to be wrong, but there seems a gulf between where we are and where we should be. ~~~~~~~~~ Full disclosure: Wasn't at the game last night so comments aren't based on seeing that game, only on other games ~~~~~~~~~ From his post game interview last night it seemed Wallace thought the whole showing was pretty abysmal. He suggested only a couple of players had showed up -"had jam"- and that he couldn't wait for it to be over. I think, and hope, a very different showing will be demanded of the team from him tonight. Personally, I think and fear Wallace will again be judged on whether we out perform our perceived team. We know he and Gui can find gems and Herr type monsters but don't think anyone thinks he's shopping with the same budget this year as two years ago. Our win last Series was against the run of percieved strength of squads so that suggests he coached more out of the players than we might have expected. And I fear we could be in another situation like that. Do I think he could win silverware with the team we have...yes, as everybody knows make it to the finals weekend and you only need a few good games to do so. Do I think the squad has the strength to win the League title? Not on what we've seen so far. If we finish 2nd or 3rd in the league then I'd say he's a good coach for sure, as right now I don't see that as our 'natural' position based on squad strengths. But it would nice to have the feeling *for once* in the autumn that the League was ours to lose, or at least not a long shot. So I think it'll come down to where we end up relative to where people expect us to end up and whether we can snatch some silverware away from squads that look more naturally to be likely frontrunners. I'd like all this to be irrelevant and wrong at the end of the year as we celebrate a Grand Slam but sadly I'm not seeing that yet. Wallace brought more out of the players last year than looked likely early doors. So I'm hopeful for the same this year. But it's a hope for sure. Because I don't think we can rest on what we're bringing so far

I thought it was less but I can't see us making 7 changes According to EIHL rules it says... “Nottingham have registered 13 non homegrown players therefore they are allowed to make up to 7 changes”. So basically each team is allowed to sign up to a maximum of 20 imports in a season. They best get cracking ! Is bringing in a player a change? Nah.... so what’s the explanation counting our already signed players? Less it’s saying that if we had 14 non homegrown players it would mean 6 changes left.

The main changes for 21/22 season are: Extra import player allowed per match day-14 instead of 13. 19 players in match day squad rather than 20. Rules regarding under 25 year old homegrown players removed. Limit to amount of imports teams can use per year capped at 20

It's about registrations after the first game. Any addition counts as a "change" unless they are a temporary signing while a player is on the "injured reserve". If you want to keep them after the injured player returns, then you can convert them into a permanent change. Hence why at the moment, we could bring in 2 new players without making any "changes".

Because running with 13 we still have 7 import "changes" left of the maximum 20 imports we can sign to our roster each year.
Squads who started with 14 have 6 "changes" left
It's called a change because the roster is registered with the league prior to the first game. So adding a 14th import would be counted as a "change" even if it's not a replacement.
Think of it as a "change to the initially registered roster of imports" rather than a change in the sense of a replacement.
Those with 14 registered at the only have substitution/replacement "changes" available to them. We have one addition "change" available as well.
Hope this helps.
