I think in their letter to DCMS they made it clear a loan is of no use as it pushes the problems further down the line!! They are not wrong there!! They'd have trouble paying back a grand let alone 4 million!
I think it is a grant! Even worse it will get taken advantage of any totally wasted im afraid

Just can't see how a part season will benefit much of anyone. I can understand maybe trying to do a short league/tournament of some kind next spring for the benefit of GB players before the Worlds, but a part season with probably just half the league, can't see the value in it.

My guess is that if the funding allows them to play a half season, at minimal risk (grant covers enough of costs), it's worth playing to keep fans from drifting away, even if you'll have no fans in attendance. Then you can maybe get luck and get fans in for Feb/Mar to actually turn a little profit and bring in some extra revenue for the teams and arenas. Have to wait and see, but the announcement makes it sounds to me like they don't think Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland administrations will support their clubs.

That will be tricky enough on its own.

Just about to go back to tier 3, family get-togethers over Christmas which scares the scientists to death, and then 'possible' season start in January? Cloud cuckoo land and 2021 hasn't even started yet...

Have to wait and see, but the announcement makes it sounds to me like they don't think Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland administrations will support their clubs. Cardiff will be self funding if they get nothing out of the Welsh government. They can easily afford it, trust me. Belfast however are zero chance, as are the Scottish teams without significant support.

TBF before Panthers got their news story out there was a rumours account on Twitter posting about the mini season and they thought Cardiff would be in.

They can't self fund.

On this occasion that is pretty accurate though, yes.

Yeah I don't usually give these people any credence particularly, but seeing as the EIHL and Panthers announced something close to that a couple of hours later, not a bad scoop this time.

So take the £4m for the five English clubs and then behind the scenes there could be some nice fat brown envelopes involved thus splitting said money ten ways. I knew Bermuda would come in very handy one day !

The money is likely going to need to be fully accounted for before Sport England release a penny. I imagine getting any grant paid is going to be a massive headache and bureaucratic mess. Seems the only way to not be the above is to be a Tory donor and bidding for a PPE contact.

It's there to get the sport played in England.
