Makes you think what this could mean for Euro teams with delays, interruptions, etc. Some already gone bust over recent years and a lot more financially precarious. It's not just an EIHL problem.

Start to wonder what might happen if some owners want to push ahead with reduced crowds and webcasts making up some of the shortfall, and others like NB don't want to take the hit and would prefer the mothball option?
Do we get a reduced league for 20/21 with Panthers and Clan (and maybe some of the less solvent teams) sitting out?

As you say it most certainly will be all or nothing, ( small faces song ). And as time goes on it’s looking more like nothing unfortunately.

I notice the number of cases of the viruses is starting to rise again in Nottingham - this won’t help at all to the flicker of hope people have for a 20/21 season.

I think webcasts we only get a small audience - £15 a game for what looks most of the time a cheap home movie.

Week in week out there are complaints upon complaints of the unreliability of them and that’s before you factor in the costs. When you compare stream options that have been made available by other sports (for free) during this ‘behind closed doors’ era EIHL webcasts as a general rule are yet to begin crawling out of the water.

I should add here - I don't think webcasts are the solution either.
More than anything I was wondering aloud what would happen if the bigger clubs with an established webcast (Cardiff, Sheffield) decide that they can live with a reduced capacity + webcasts, and NB decides he can't. Certainly from the outside it looks like NB is more comfortable with the idea mothballing 20/21 than Sheffield are

Why do you think they seem to be having daft 50/50s every day.. they need to keep their club afloat somehow lol. I'm sure if NB had tne final say we'd have already scrapped off this season.. well it won't be long before Simms et all are put out of their misery

Exactly why are people still talking about webcasts, it’s been said time and time again, webcasts make very little money, tv make even less, it’s BUMS ON SEATS or Jack all.

Not all webcasts make little money. The last one Panthers did v Steelers they sold 700 webcasts. So about £7000 and that was on top of a sell out crowd !

It has to be a fair deal for all teams, webcasts won't work. They have already been discussed as a non-starter.

But that kind of income is few and far between, and without fans that income wouldn’t pay half the players wages, never mind housing, equipment, insurance , flights, ice rentals, etc etc. It’s always been about paying fans, do away with season ticket money and no money up front , and it’s a Defo non starter.

I know webcasts are a non starter, but if Panthers can generate 700 webcast sales when there’s a sell out game on which most of their fans are attending then how many would they sell if a webcast was the only option to watch it. Quite a few I’d wager. Anyway there wont be a season if any kind of social distancing is in place, which it will be,so they might as well just cancel the season now.

Anyone see the audience at The Snooker Final, not exactly social distancing also not wearing masks?
Anyone know anything more about it?

Start to wonder might happen if some owners want to push ahead with reduced crowds and webcasts making up some of the shortfall, and others like NB don't want to take the hit and would prefer the mothball option? Do we get a reduced league for 20/21 with Panthers and Clan (and maybe some of the less solvent teams) sitting out? Very doubtful, it will be all in or nothing. I think it's quite complicated actually and by the exodus of our players as well as the BBC NB interview, it's pretty clear that as far as NB and at least a couple of other teams are concerned it's just a matter of waiting until September to get confirmation that next season isn't going to happen. I think there must be a fair amount of insider stuff here going on to find ways for some of the teams to survive financially until play can start which is over 12 months away with some teams already taking a very big financial hit last February/March. Greater Manchester is still under lockdown as well as Leicester and other places too. A big event was canceled on Friday due to a spike in Newark and I'm not sure what the situation is at the moment with Wales, NI, and Scotland. The big problem for the league apart from how to get some teams over another 12 months is some of the rinks themselves. A few UK league rinks were already in a very precarious position before the virus and without ice hockey revenue I would think there are serious problems looming there too. If they start the season even with a long delay then local lockdowns or players needing to self-isolate (and not the Jon Rhealt type he practiced himself last season) would cause catastrophic problems for teams and the league itself. 12-month delay will cause big problems but to start late and then stop again would be catastrophic. The arenas are no more isolated from this than the small shoestring rinks. Very limited gig/show revenue, limited public skating revenue and this could end up being a far bigger problem than for the teams themselves. The EIHL brings in fairly substantial regular revenue steam for both arenas and rinks now. The rinks/teams that were struggling last year must be looking how they are going to survive already and then on top of that they are (in my view) going to be looking at another year with zero revenue going forwards. I think this is the problem that NB is already looking at right now. IF there is a sabbatical season 20/21 then it's going to be a case of lowering standards/costs as far as players are concerned (no one but the nailed on ice hockey fanatic is going to be interested in that in their thousands) and that coupled together with the fact that ice hockey is just too easy to walk away from for many as a lot of ex fans show already every season. This is the perfect storm for the EIHL and more so than any other UK sport. I can't see all current teams surviving IF the worst happens and I think that goes for the venues too.

Expect confirmation of league season cancellation within the next week.. Shh... It's supposed to be a secret... A vote is taking place at the end of the week, nearly if not all the teams have now realised the season cannot go ahead. Decision is being made early enough to allow signed players to look for other teams/employment.
