Just to clarify the situation regarding netties. Lee White who will start for Steelers on July 29th needs backup. We have gone for the option of having 2 complete novices in net as it is a beginners game. the reserve netminder we have is too good for a beginner game, which wouldn't be too bad if we could match him standard wise at the other end, we tried but we can't; so we have decided to do it this way as we want goals!! I don't want a boring 1-0 scorline in the beginner game, I want to see a 13-11 or similar. I am sure you as beginner players would much rather go against a novice goalie and have a real chance of scoring rather than against a really good nettie like Ruri? Having said all that, we do appreciate that we do have commited players in reserve who will not now it seems get the call. In light of this we would like to invite all paid up reserves to suit up for the games, be introduced out on the ice and then sit on the benches for the games, they will not though play... Hopefully this way everyone gets a chance at being introduced as a Steeler/Panther. Not ideal I know but the best we can do I'm afraid, we desperately want to involve as many people as possible. So to confirm. Alex Smith will now play for the Steelers (A Steelers supporter) Along with Lee White. And Dave Eaton will play for Panthers (A Panthers supporter) Not long to wait now.....

In accordance with what we said about the payment deadline, your first choice beginner netminder has not paid up and we have had to make a change, the order for shirts and therefore money had to be in last night.
You have a new beginner nettie - Alex Smith
I hope you will all join me in welcoming your latest recruit to the Panther ranks.
Congratulations Alex, you are now a Notingham Panther.

Our fixtures are on our forum, it may be worth bearing that in mind Nem. Not being diva-ish there, just if were not playing id imagne theres possibly 10+ of our guys will be there?! No probs mate. These are all the available dates IS have, if we don't get 2, then one will do. We (Shuff) are also holding a Sheffield only session, possibly 2, does anyone want to try and sort something for your lot?

The trophy will be presented by our title sponsors.
Shirts for non players will be possible but with all the work we are putting in to the event non of the HOSNIC team will be available to sort it out. People are welcome to contact Rhino and order their own once the final designs are known. You should be aware however that the players shirts are not only subsidised, but subject to a very special rate from Rhino on account of it being a charity game, personal orders will be a full cost + a donation to the cause. People interested will need to arrange this with Rhino themselves. There will be a VERY limited number for sale on the day, and 2 signed ones up for grabs in the shirt raffle.

This is a mistake by Ice Sheff I'm afraid. Sunday 29th July is booked for the HOSNIC cup. Same idea - Shuff v Notts, but nothig what-so-ever to do with Rink Rush. I sorted all the Sheffield training sessions last year with IS, I, along with Jono am now organising this event; Ice Shuff are just getting a little confused because it's us and I am listed on their system as Rink Rush. A thread will be popsted shortly on here with regard to the HOSNIC cup, event details, entry info, attractions, special guests etc, stay tuned.

Delighted about Rasto for sure. Stancok I'm kind of undecided on. He's an excellent player in himself, and if you'd have offered him to me 5 weeks ago I'd have jumped at it. My concern is more about him in combination with the rest of our defence. Stancok is a defensive D-man which I think is exactly what we needed to complement the other three, but my concern is whether it will just leave us a tad light at the back. We've got plenty of grit for sure but I worry we might be lacking a little brute strength. I think your concerns are a little unfounded TBH. Stan is solid, you know what you get. He is the player Mr Munn needs to be for us.

I like these signings, especialy Stanny. Rom is an entertainer and I look forward to seeing him again. I think a bit of stability in the league, coupled with better guidlines money wise and the clubs expanding there 'packages' to compensate as both you and us have done with todays signings, are begining to pay dividends to us the fans. Not ISL by any stretch, but the sides are looking very entertaining for next year from various clubs. Looks good, and as word spreads about the packages on offer from UK clubs, the better playes will come in search of a future after hockey and the means to get what they need. Well done all involved I say, Panthers, Steelers, Blaze, etc, etc; this is what we need, for many playes these days it's not all about the salary, and some will take less to get more off the ice with a view to their futures after playing. This is one area we in the UK hold a big edge over other European leagues with the North Americans at least. I have spoken to more than one player who would look to take advantage of our education system, get that sorted, and then hopefully have a bit of a pay day abroad. Sorry! rambling on I know.......

That would be fantastic! Every derby game would then MEAN somethingother than simple bragging rights.

almost impossible to measure acurately though isn't it? Assists are no good in that way, last year Ian Manzanno was responsible for the pass that lead eventualy to a goal for us on numerous occasions, non, bar the odd one were given as assists as it was the initial pas out from the back at the very beggining of the play.

Better why?
Scoring (not the main job of a defenceman IIRC)
Or +/-
?

But that's not what you are geting with Stanni Pidge, and is why he and his like are so valued. A true stay at home Dman is a rare and sought after commodity and something we BOTH lacked last year. If they grab a couple, nice, but it is the last thing I expect either of them to be doing regularly.
We both now have solid looking guys at the back, with Stanni we know what to expect and is proven at this level, Munn is as yet unknown, but judging by the reaction of the Admirals fans on their forum, it's a good signing for us; they desperatelty wanted him back and blame his absense for their lack-luster finish.

10K?
I thought we were talking goals?
You said.
infering that D men that don't score a bag full are a waste of space.
I was pointing out that some of the biggest names in the NHL did little to trouble the netminders.

Yeah Pidge, these wasters like Chelios, Coffey, Langway, Numminen et-al, total waste of space eh? Hardly ever score, bunch of pretenders if you ask me. Should be getting 10+ a year or you aint worth jack........

Again alot of expectation without any real basis for it. Regardless of whether he is any better than X or Y he IS an AHL quality player (ie played for last two seasons in the AHL) and hence will probably be THE most expensive D man signed. Why then would he be N0. 3 in the ranking probably being the most expensive regardless of any fiddles regarding college courses or coaching responsibilitys, IE fitness. Its either wishful thinking or as mentioned earlier steelers are ignoring the rules again... Edited for you to save you the worry mate......

Looks as good as Stanni to me, same style player. Yes but one will of been alot cheaper Very true, but then thats the benefit of our Uni tie-up, we get them cheaper. Stanni will be value for his money though, I wouldn't worry.

I can't remember the last time I looked at a Player's record on the Hockey DB and been less impressed LOL ! Barely played last season, presumably due to this shoulder injury. Played half a season in 04/05 for THREE different teams. Stats nothing to write home about. Lets hope for more of the same 'top' signings up the M1 LOL. Who would you say is the best and most defensive, solid D man in the show? Now go and look at his stats and tell me how many points he has. See? Looks as good as Stanni to me, same style player.

29 year old stay at home defenceman from Norfolk Admirals in the AHL (last 2 seasons). Is taking advantage of their 2 year MBA course at the University of Sheffield during his "multi-year contract." Only played 26 games last season for some reason. Not quite as experienced as I had imagined from all the hype flying around up there. Is this the 7 year AHL D-Man that the hype has been all about? Geez big deal. Multi-year contract -- ;D ;D The levels set new standards.HL Yes mate, but I don't let that stop me reading and enjoying this board; you just learn to ignore it!.....
