For all the people that moan about Fife's ice rink, the sightlines are awesome. Cheers for that. See if you can take the thread anymore off topic with your next post.... To be told to F Off would be bad enough from an opposition fan in our sport but from a member of staff is nothing short of a disgrace. I'll try my best. Wasn't condoning what happened. For all the people that moan about Fife's ice rink, the sightlines are awesome. Well theres no plexi to look through for a start HL There is, just everybody sits above it

It was probably me that made the "pansies" comment, which was made tongue in cheek. I even posted it on my own forum to avoid stirring it up on here.
Anyway, I'm not sure how plexi is really going to make much difference to fan or player safety. The seating at FIA is raised so once the plexi is up, the first row of seats will be inline with or just above the top of the plexi.
Regardless, if it's a condition of us being in the league, no excuse for it not being done as far as I can see. Doesn't actually look like they have that much to do. If they can get both ends done in 5/6 days, can't see why they can't get it finished up to the benches on one side and all along the other side in time for this weekends game, never mind the week after.
I'm no plexi expert but I would have thought the corners would have been the most difficult and the straights should be more straightforward.
I'm also led to believe that next year all rinks are required to use plastic instead of glass, is this the case?

Shouldn't the presenters be neutral? i.e. Not Sheffield and Nottingham affiliated.

The problem in Sheffield is that they've gotten themselves into a vicious cycle. They spent big when they first started, won trophies, had to spend more, to win more trophies, and now their in a position where they can't afford to "keep up with the Joneses".
But their fans demand trophies or they stop attending, so they then spend more than they can afford to get said trophies and end up bankrupt. However, there's never any punishment so they are free to phoenix themselves time and time again.
This is why I kinda feel sorry for clubs such as Edinburgh, who try and live within their means (yeah I know they have other issues such as marketing, etc), and end up being the whipping boys for a season.
So at the top end of the table we have a team that wins the league by spending money they don't have and at the other end, we have a team who don't spend money they don't have and end up the laughing stock of the league.

To keep the fight fans happy, looks like Lepine and Siddall have already been toe-to-toe:
Looks like a win for Lepine as he managed to get a couple of hits in although not much in it.

Well Scott Neil at the recent Caps fan forum did say that any notion of a "wage cap" was scrapped and it was back to being a free for all spending wise.

He is and was and will be again this season. Fights and hard checking, roughing, hooking, tripping. All parts of this game, BIG parts of the game actually. They make up hockey. So if you dont like that, why do you watch hockey? I don't recall ever mentioning anything other than fighting. Having watched hockey for 26 years, I know that even fighting is a part of the game. I was referring to the fact that when a team announce a new signing, some of the first comments aren't about the quality (or lack of) of the player, but the potential boxing match with Lepine.

Well said sparkymark. Some were obsessed with the likes of Penner last season, who spent more time in the sin bin and contributed little positive on the ice. Best of luck to Fyfe this season. Blah blah blah. I'll tell you what, from now we'll just talk about goal scorers and goals then. Let's forget decent checks, netminder saves, attendances, player antics... Penner was a fan favourite because he entertained, is that so hard to figure out. I don't mind the chats about fighting but if a newbie was to read the threads on here, they would think Lepine was Superman the way you guys go on ;D

And there was me thinking that the aim of ice hockey was to put the puck into your opponents net more than the they do to you. Maybe things have changed since we were last in the top league

Ultimatley, its down to the quality of imports and Brits you've got. Sheffeild had top imports last year - will Fife be able to attract the same quality? Going bust every year doesn't seem to put imports off going to Sheffield so can't see why not.

Thing is tho sparky, with a better defence in front of him Daly wont be facing 60 shots a game. For me the netminding is crucial for Flyers and while both Daly and Nicol have talent I think it is the area which Dutes is going to have to think about the hardest Yeah, I don't want to sound like I'm being critical of him cause he is a good goalie but is he good enough? Tough one for Dutes. There are a few players being rumoured as signed for Elite league teams but with no team announced. We'll soon get to the stage where we'll be able to workout who we've signed due to the fact that all other teams will have their rosters!

Blair Daly was good last season but I'd be worried about him getting put between the pipes, getting inundated with shots and then getting demoralised. When we got beat by Dundee in their own back yard, he faced 60+ shots and conceded 4 goals, although that's just one game. Tough call for the coach.

for me dundee should be ok... last season they definately started off as the whipping boys, but after a bit became just like any other competitive bottom half team, i guess around the Hull level, maybe just a bit below, but no longer whipping boys Edinburgh im worried about more than Fife... i believe i saw them have a friendly midway through last season, and fife won something like 15-1... so hopefully will be ok for a bottom half team at least I've guessing your referring to the East Coast Cup. We played both Dundee and Edinburgh, with them being limited to 4 imports and us with our 1. We beat Edinburgh 10-1 (or 2) and Dundee 5-2 in Kirkcaldy. We then drew with Edinburgh at MIR 2-2 and got beat by Dundee in their rink 4-2.

I think Simmsey has stated before (I think it was on a recording of Steelers recent fan meeting) that they have spoken to terristrial TV channels but they want an exorbitant sum of money to show it. The highlight show costs them around £300 to make!!

Although I doubt he was referring to Fife as we don't really pay much attention to his wind-up attempts. Look at it one way, Sheffields history is so short that they can have a legends game and most of their players are still at an age to play hockey! Not sure if any of our players from the forties would come back for our teams

Dutiaume to lead Flyers into Elite LeagueTODD Dutiaume will be Fife Flyers’ player-coach next season. The long-serving Canadian was formally confirmed in the key post on Tuesday night - and will now begin to build a new-look team for the 2011-12 campaign against the biggest clubs in the country. He has aready sounded out a number of his local skaters to get them prepared for the step-up to top flight hockey, and started the process of finding the right imports to fill key berths on the roster. Dutiaume’s name was the only one in the frame, and Flyers believe he has earned the chance to step up to the Elite League after steering the club to a near total clean-sweep of the silverware in the NPL and Scottish leagues. A key player at the club since signing from Telford Tigers in 1998 he previously iced with Swindon Ice Lords after moving from North America where he played in the WHL with Brandon Wheat Kings and Moose Jaw Warriors. Dutiaume (38) will continue to skate as well, but there are plans in hand to appoint a bench coach - similar to the arrangement which saw Chic Cottrell work closely with Mark Morrison as Flyers powered to a Grand Slam and British championship titles in the BNL. He said: ‘‘You need that stability and structure on the bench, and it’s a position I’m going to take my time over so I get someone who thinks along similar lines and also makes the calls when required. ‘‘In this league you definitely need that support.’’ Dutiaume is also looking to his local skaters to make their mark on top flight hockey - and it’s a challenge they are relishing. ‘‘We’ve been trying to prep them for this because it is a jump,’’ he said. ‘‘They are excited about it and they want to learn and that is fantastic. ‘‘You never know until someone steps on to the ice how they will perform at a higher level, but I’m hoping a few of the guys surprise me - they will certainly be up for the challenge.’’ That home-grown contingent will almost certainly include team captain Jamie Wilson after he was released by Dundee Stars. The forward signed for the Taysiders a couple of weeks ago but he was not formally announced - the Press was aware of the move but agreed to put the news on hold while he sorted out his work arrangements. With Flyers now playing Elite League hockey it would appear Wilson will return to the Rosslyn Street rink, In terms of new import signings, Dutiaume admits he has no shortage of applicants - but he wants the right players in his dressing-room. ‘‘Fife still carries a very good name among hockey players - it’s a good place to play and you are well treated. That will work in our favour,’’ he said. ‘‘We want guys who fit into our team and dressing-room, who understand the style we play and are maybe willing to change their game. ‘‘We’ve been inundated with CVs but there is still not substitute for speaking to guys you know whose views you trust.’’ Dutiaume also admits he’s delighted to see a buzz returning to the sport - and the town. ‘‘It’s been quiet for a while,’’ he admitted, ‘‘but there has been a huge buzz since we announced we were going Elite. ‘‘Lot of people have been stopping me and asking questions, and talking hockey - if that is am indication of the excitement then things are looking good. ‘‘We’ve had a busy spring already and done a fair bit of work, and now things are starting to motor.’’ Announcing Dutiaume’s appointment, a club spokesman paid tribute to his commitment in recent seasons. He said: ‘‘After working over the last five years to keep the club going and winning almoist everything in sight Todd deserves the opportunity to lead the team again next season.’’ With season tickets on sale, fans are now awaiting news of the fixcture list - and the all-important first night of the season. A provisional schedule is with all the clubs to make adjustments, but one, Cardiff Devils, appears to have jumped the gun, and published its entire list online. It indicates the Welsh side will return to Fife Ice Arena on October 8 and again on January 14 as part of a Scottish triple header with Dundee and Edinburgh. www.fifetoday.co.uk/sport/dutiaume_to_lead_flyers_into_elite_league_1_1720278
