Actually, to add to my earlier comment. The tournament may have been important to Panthers in the shape of Mr Moran, as I'm sure he is making out of it no matter what the result and I'm sure its important to some Panthers fans, but its not important to Panthers in the shape of Neilson as he, I'm sure, would rather win league and play-offs than some non-standard tournament.

Wait a minute were not the all conquering giants of British hockey, were an underachieving club. I've been watching from the second year in the arena and have only seen three cup wins, two of those were funnily enough one of those mickey mouse cups. I remember those two wins and can't remember anyone complaining at the time that we'd gone to all that effort to win a mickey mouse tin pot cup.
All this save yourself for the league and PO's is just balls, the league gets decided over a fifty odd game campaign and the PO's don't even start until April, is it really too much to ask for the team to put in the effort on one sunday afternoon several months before the league draws to an end and the PO's are even contenplated, afterall they are paid to play hockey?
I know that at some point in the next year something big will probably happen at work which will require that bit, maybe even a lot more effort. Does it mean that I take easy days in anticipation of this, erm no.
And as for saving for the league, well I'm pretty sure that the two teams that never played in the BKOC were also two teams that didn't manage to win the league during it's time as a competition and that was several games worth of "distraction and effort" not just one.
Panthers have let there fans down, no ifs or buts.

This tournament was never important to the Panthers. Well they should have had the decency to tell us so before we wasted all that money supporting them.

I'm sure Neilson would rather be an NHL coach, doesn't mean he shouldn't put the effort in whilst he's in the EIHL. There are many things people might prefer, at the end of the day you do your job to the best of your ability at all times and especially when people have paid to watch you do that job.

tunster - Wilson can do whatever he wants to do, he can decide what are his priorities and set out is stall accordingly. He may believe he can throw his best players out week after week and through a high tempo mini tournament, and his gamble may pull off, but it might not. That is the burden coaches carry, deciding what is the priority and taking gambles. The priority for the Panthers is undoubtably the league. How often do opposing fans like to remind us of how long its been? Will people really give two hoots about a 'here one day gone the next' cup (and there have been quite a few) in a few years time?

If Sheffield win, I look forward to seeing Simmsy IMPLODE with sheer joy and pride. Plus all his write ups containing the added words 20/20 Hockeyfest Champions and League and Play Off double champions 2008/09.... I don't believe that the Panthers went there with the intention of throwing the game, or not showing any interest. I mean we only played Belfast last night, and I would imagine both teams played their hearts out for that league game last night, and were both shattered/played out for todays tournament. With that in mind, I am glad that we had this "little" distraction today, as it is seen by quite a few fans, so losing did not have an impact on our standing in the league. So now today is out the way lets pave the way for a good season, by getting 100% behind the Panthers, and showing we are the best fans of the Elite League of any team.... ODDBALL SAYS "HAVE A LITTLE FAITH MAN, HAVE A LITTLE FAITH And to all the doubters and moaners..

Absolute shambles. Bringing Molin over and advertising it was probably their way of making up for the debacle today. Corey needs to apologise to every fan who paid their hard earned cash to go watch rubbish. I dont care if he wants to rest certain players, this is still a competition. He came across arogant today and I don't like, we are the fans who without they would not be here. We deserve more. We may be top of the league now but it's only October, don't get too smug with yourself!!!

Did you pay to go though Walter? I didn't, so I don't care much that they didn't perform. But if I'd paid 25 quid to sit in that sh1thole for a day I'd be well miffed.

I am one of those fans who made the trip up, watched the first round games and enjoyed seeing all the teams side by side. Hull looked extremely poor, and the caps vs vipers game was not played with any form of style or pace. However i did enjoy seeing the devils and giants game, and have seen every goaltender peppered more than a piece of good mackrel!
I dont think the panthers players out there handled the concept as well as the steelers or the blaze and unfortunately I think that we were out thought in terms of tactics. We played the wrong style for this format.
The event itself was a decent effort, and Im sure it will run for a couple more years. my only fault with it is, will panthers, stingrays, caps and giants fans bother next year? Its all very expensive and a time consuming for 40 mins of hockey.
I know people will say that they have had the opportunity to see the other teams, but its not the same.

I could not care less about this exhibition show either.. It's just a waste of time in my opinion. Why not play it at the start of the year as a certain raiser.. The players will all be fresh and people will want to have a look at the new rosters that are put together.. Playing it after 7/8 games into the season with teams having to play 3 times over the weekend, and if they get to the final 5 times in 3 days is a bit much.. Some teams already have a pile of injuries with out having to play this tournament, which is basically Ice hockeys equivalent to Rugby 7's.. Does this not say it all? All the hype from radio and Elite to say what a success but it's not what the players think on radio clips. It's all about the fans or should be.

I am also not buying these comments about the players being tired from last night, they are athletes who play hockey, play twice a week (mainly)! They should be able to play the 2 games. We played last night, that was it!

Yes if I had paid to go and we lost, then I would be miffed, but only because we lost, I would not be making comments about the team throwing it, or not taking an interest. Because I would not know that was the case, as I am not privy to the thoughts of CN or any of the team. The way they played today was possibly due to last nights game, hence both Panthers and Giants going out in the first round. I would have gone today, but unfortunately lack of funds prevail, I have this season to pick and choose the games I go to as I no longer work . Normally I would have had a season ticket . And my match link to the radio has gone down, so am well pee'd off.

bobbles - Neilson doesn't need to apologise for anything. After last season I guess to him the league and PO seemed pretty important to the fans considering the whingathon and grief-fest that enveloped places such as this after another season of under-achivement. I guess he had all this in mind when laying out his plans for this season. Then up pops a tournament dreamed-up by folk who could only see pound signs, is it any wonder he paid it lip service? League and PO happen every year, (hopefully) this tournament may not happen again. Which is important in the long run? No Neilson doesn't need to apologise, Moran should apologise, not only for lumbering Neilson with this affair when as a team priorities lie elsewhere, but also for I believe his part in leading fans astray that as a team anything other than lipservice was going to be paid to the 20/20.

this 20-20 competition is nothing more better than a Sunday five a side competition at a local sports hall like Chilwell olympia , who ever wins will have no bragging rights as amajor trophy won , the Charity shield is on a higher level and no one thinks thats important for bragging rights . Yes its good value £25 for an all day tournament , but times are hard for some folk and I do not think it will get the attendance a major finals or final would get . you will get ripped off for all day drinkers and the food , plus the torture chamber of sitting in those child seats all day . I would rather watch football on sky have my affordable sunday roast , have a kip , and be fresh and ready for work on a monday morning than attend this mickey mouse Hockeyfest. You enjoy your soccer I did but it's football not soccer (we have the FA not SA ) ,Chelsea beat liverpool 2-0 , Sunday roast was good swilled down with wine , rest of Family around PC listening to the hockeyfest I told them not to , Best £27 per person I have saved .

By the way, could the resting of players had been for the semi and final if we had managed to have progressed OR were our players not there?

'howabouthat' - they are paid to play hockey - is that not right? Whether it's league, cc or today. Moran didn't pick the team. This one is down to Corey. Were you there? ?? We pay our money to watch our team not half a team, which was obviously decided way before today. Take your rose tinted glasses off! Resting players is rubbish unless they are injured. StMoran is probably as pi$$ed off as the rest of us that went!

So I can live with that..... Oh! I expect the lynch mob coming beating my door down any time now...

Seems simple really GM saw pound notes, and CN saw a hindrance with his main aim of getting the Holy Grail for the fans and getting that monkey off our back! As for resting players he dammed if he does and dammed if he doesn't! Did Corey ever promote this as a good idea?
How would people be on here if say Macca and Gascon and Jade (for example) all got injured in a meaningless tournament, then it would be Corey why didn't you rest some players and play the kids!
Having said that though I can well understand the natural disappointment and anger for our fans who went!
If we do win the League though how many will still be angry about today's effort!
Have to say though had this been pre-season I would have gone to check the other teams signings!
