Buster, there's little convenience though. Service in my experience has been slow and the product below par. I can handle paying what they charge for a drink if the standard and service matches it. Since the NIC has opened, there's been a big gulf.

Just shut up Buster....You're wrong and you know it ;D After that comment are you any better than Buster then, if he is happy how can he be wrong it right for him! his views are subjective not objective, be a bit like me saying if you don't like the food you are wrong, clearly anybodies opinion is valid to that persons predilections! if you want it you buy it you do, if you don't want it you don't buy it, not rocket science is it! The quality has improved just not the giant leap to ala carte service that some think it should be! Woah, im sorry for cracking a joke.....jeez!! Me and Buster are good friends...he knew i was joking (see smilies!!), as probably did a lot of other people. In fact, if you read what i put a couple of posts previously, you will see it was merely a joke and i was just winding him up. So please, in future, don't jump down my throat thankyou very much.

The quality has improved just not the giant leap to ala carte service that some think it should be! Ah, that old standby - outrageous exaggeration in the attempt to cover up a very weak argument. And next week on Playschool, we'll show you how to count past 10 without taking your socks off... says the pedant who judges the food from the scraps his friends give him! Priceless! Mee thinks as you have never tried the food in any detail, for you to pass judgement in the first place was another example of someone talking needless BS in thread in which they have no idea of what they are talking about! Empty words or empty head? Watch how you get off that increasingly elevated high horse of yours pal! Not Playschool a bit more like Jackass for some!

Oh sweet jesus ... this really has sparked off a heated debate. For the record, the original quotes posted by Shaggy are in fact my own observations of the lack of quality food at our beloved NIC.
Now before some of the posters in the thread jump on me, I have sampled the "food" in our barn over a few seasons now, and for all the much touted improvements, nothing has really changed. The "hot" dogs should be reported to trading standards, and the burger I forced down on Sat night could only be descibed as weapons grade poo poo. For the luv of god I wish I had noticed before I sat back down in my seat as I would have sent it back along with a harsh critique as to why it wasnt fit to be fed to a family of hungry maggots ... unfortunatly, the hockey that I love so much had just restarted and my attention was directed to the action on the ice.
Once again, I thank god for my single minded love of ice hockey as it distracted me from the garbage I was forcing into my mouth.
From perosnal experience (yes, I have been to the odd away match) the Vipers seem to have some of the best catering I have yet sampled ... my wife STILL goes on about it a year after the event. I've even ate the overpriced food at Wembley during a Foo Fighters concert, which had a single overriding advantage over the NIC ... compared to our barn, it was hote frickin' cuisine!
Anyways, its late and tbh I think what few marbles I had have now rolled off my desk reading some of the "arguements" on this thread ...
PS Phil51 ... as I sit next to Shaggy and value his friendship, believe me I would never hand over "scraps" as I dont believe in cruel and unusual punishments!
PPS Wish i hadnt walked by the roast pork near the entrance ... sure looked tasty
Peace out y'all ...
Dave

PPPS Happy to pay for something that rewards the hard earnt cash spent on it ... sadly, the catering at the NIC dosnt ... more fool me for wasting the aforementioned cash

Jeez everybody knows the food and drink at the arena is expensive and crap. All you need to do is look at and smell the food to know it's pretty likely to not be a pleasant dining experience. And it's an arena so the prices are inevitably going to be inflated.
Now I agree with some of the sentiments that the food and drink shouldn't be as pricey and should be more pleasant. Going to hockey games at the arena is different to gigs. Going to arena gigs are a treat and once every few months at most so you expect to pay premium for crap, but hockey games are weekly so prices should be reduced.
However, as buster as said, albeit in an incredibly over-the-top post, every single person knows how expensive it is and how crap it is. If it is such an issue, and it seems it must be seeing as there is 4 pages on it, then don't buy anything there!

if i were prime minister, *chuckle* you'd have to get someone to take you seriously first. Mayor of London maybe, they seem to like electing novelty mayors down there, but I reckon the PM job would be a long shot.

Don't worry - I'm not going to (with the possible exception of that new stall near the entrance... will have to check that out). Thing is... despite the blinkered rantings of some, the reason I started this thread was to determine whether my own experiences of the 'food' at the NIC were representative or not. I've long held the belief that the food is crap - but is it not fair to actually test that belief? Try a bit of the food, ask others what they think, etc etc. No claims of perfection or omniscience here... Is that not better than just sitting there and saying "well, it was crap 5 years ago, so it must be crap now - end of story"? Maybe it's a crime to display an open mind...

Shaggy you started this because you were bored! As for open mind need to taste a whole item for that, your mind with anything NIC has always been closed, since I started on the cage!
Enough people on here have told you on here that the food is better, shame you not open to that answer! the beer is also better, not real ale though!

Shaggy you started this because you were bored! There you go again, inventing imaginary scenarios inside your own skull to justify your opinions. I was bored, was I? Are you sure? Do you have telepathic powers, and are capable of knowing my own thoughts better than I do myself? Or - and far, far more likely - are you just talking a load of tosh again? Wrong again... seeing as I was quite complimentary about the NIC management when they did that consultation with the fans over the whole food issue a few years back... that was a good idea, and I was happy to say so. Pity it seems to have all come to nothing, but hey ho... Have you even read what people have said on this thread? Do you know how many people on here have said that the food is better? Trying reading the thread and counting them. With the exception of those talking about this new (temporary?) stall near the entrance *, a grand total of THREE - yourself being one of them. That particular number being heavily outweighed by the number of people on this very thread who have said that the food is a load of crap. Which answers my original question... a question that I wouldn't have asked if I didn't want to know the answer. That's called an open mind. Maybe you should try it sometime. * And since I wasn't aware of that stall when I posted the original question, that doesn't really count.

A story
Me and the family used to frequent a very nice pub for Sunday lunch, great beer, cracking food and very good service.
It was taken over, and went to the dogs, subsequently we took our £100 a Sunday elsewhere.
Now I know that this has no bearing on the cr*p that is served at the NIC, and lets be honest it really is cr*p and anyone, especially those who eat there seriously need looking at, but until everyone starts voting with their feet then its not going to change.
If you cant go 4 hours without a crap bit of plastic, poorly prepared food then its there really is no helping you.

if i were prime minister, this nation wouldn't be one full of wet fairies that cry at the drop of a hat. I'm pretty sure there'd be tears of one sort or another though... Anyway: I've never bought any food at the arena so I can't offer a first-hand account but I'm fairly committed to the pre-judgment that a fast food business model which is built on casual staff serving a captive, generally one-time market with an expectation that prices will be high/quality low and which has no real need (with the troublesome exception of the hockey crowd) to worry about repeat business isn't going to produce a good burger. That's my view but, like the prospective parliamentary candidate says, you can take it or you can leave it (though if you opt for the latter, I'd prefer you not to be dripping it down your shirt anywhere near me - cheers). I don't know if Shaggy was bored when he posted the original query (seems like a randomly drawn conclusion to me) but I'll bet that he is now. I certainly am.

I've not got round to trying the food by the enterance yet, too keen to get to my seat ready for the warm up. but it looks good, I get in as soon as the gates open, but has anyone come in later and seen the queues? I'm guessign that it is in the wrong place and a decent queue (which there ought to be if it's nice) will start getting in the way of the enterance. Or do they serve you fast?
I think we should keep it (hope it's nto temporary) as it is much better than the NotDogs they sell, but maybe it needs moving.
p.s. If we are moaning about prices then we shouldn't be bringing our own food in, if more people buy food then they can lower there prices, but if more people smuggle it in then they will raise the prices for the rest of us to ensure they make a profit.......

Thats not quite how it works but hey ho.
As some have already stated the prices are set mainly by what people generally expect to pay/what they can get away with in an arena type venue, as well as taking into account any local factors (staffing, food costs, any subsidies from the venue operator etc).
If people stop buying they can't raise the prices to make-up the difference because that'll put off the little amount of remaining customers they have. What would be more likely to happen is that they'd use less staff/open fewer serving counters.
If more people buy the food it just means the company makes more money. They have no real need to drop the prices as they have a monopoly at the venue, which is protected by bag searches (at least for concerts) of customers entering the building by security to try and ensure no food or drink is brought in from outside. The reason often given for such searches is to stop people bringing glass bottles etc which could be thrown onto the ice/stage etc causing an injury but the main reason, in common with all venues such as the NIC/Trent FM Arena, is to protect the profits of the catering supplier.
'Protected market' is usually a main clause included in contracts between venue operators and sub-contracted catering suppliers (although its usually worded differently to avoid any legal challenges) and as well as searches many venues further protect the market with 'no pass outs'. The NIC (at least in this respect) is pretty good, which (as some have said) means they can pop down to the pub between periods if they like.
Its not some black art nor is this the ramblings of some conspiracy nut (I've worked for a few promotions teams within the dance music sector in the past so have some experience of how venues operate), its simple business. And whilst we'd like to think we as regulars to the NIC should get a better deal on prices etc compared to the many music events held at the Trent FM Arena we are very small fry profit wise.

Most people have answered with a resounding 'no, but theres not a lot you can do about it' Ive never seen shaggy particularaly negative about the NIC either. care to enlighten us on shaggys previous posts slagging off the NIC and their policies?

stick to having a go at others because i don't care what you think, a straw poll will tell you that from what it was two years ago, it is now better, fact!
And just to add the beer at the ice hockey is £3-20 and at the gigs is £3-50 so the ice people do get some savings!
Food in T &D's is also a great deal better with far more variety!
I think at times they should change the name of the forum to the Snug, full of miserable people at times, who could moan for Britain on any subject whatsoever!
