Well guess from some comments you now know that what you saw is not typical, and the prices at the NIC compare favourably with any other arena or sporting outlet! You want to see rip off get some nachos and a large coke at the cinema!
Me thinks Shaggy as someone who periodically complains about the food at the NIC but never samples it , perhaps it is you who doth protest needlessly, by the way the food at the entrance is well worth it!
FYI NIC havn't got a catering company perse, they have a company that pays to deliver the catering, (Lowells i think) there nothing to do with the NIC perse, except for a contract to provide catering, a bit like showsec deliver the security, Maybe buster has shares in the catering company, I know I have not!

Right... thanks, I now know that it is OK to do something bad as long as someone else is also doing it. I didn't say I have never sampled any of the 'food'... I said that I have not bought any. I have, a few times over the past few seasons, been offered a bite of this, that or the other... and quite frankly, I've not been impressed one bit. Occasionally nauseated, in fact. So that, combined with what I have seen/smelt and what I have been told by others... that has, I think, given me a reasonable picture. You see, I do try to get some actual facts before I post something... Thanks, BTW, for the recommendation for the new food stall. Like I said - might give that a try... if it seems worth it.

Have you ever worked in catering shaggy, do you understand market costs? A bite of this a smell of that is not exactly and in depth review of the food is it, i mean it is second hand food at best! As for the prices they compare with any arena , or any sporting venue prices, you know you are going to pay a little more for a hot dog in a stadium than you will outside with a burger wagon, that is common sense! Does that mean they are all robbers or does that mean that when they pay the Arena or Forest/Trent bridge for the contract, they have to put that cost into their pricing to maintain a viable profit margin? As for the food at the entrance just try it and get back to me! The soup is equally nice! BTW T&D's do an excellent Mocha as well these days!

As I said before, I dare anyone to try a cheeseburger which is fresh and tell me it's not worth the money they paid for it. They are very tasty.

They ain't worth 4 quid Rob, and you shouldn't have to keep giving them back til they find one that doesn't have the characteristics of a cobblestone.
Still, I tend to agree with Buster, you know what you're gonna get, and that it'll cost you, so if you have a problem with that don't partake.

£3.50 is the standard price for arenas and at large events. like panthers and gigs at the ice arena. deal with it. What a pathetic argument. How dare you tell people what they can and can't complain about? If you're happy being ripped off then keep it to yourself, us level headed people who don't appreciate people taking advantage of a monopoly will continue to moan. You're exactly the type of person that the NIC management hope to attract.

I don't think I have had to ask mine to replaced in while, they have all been fresh. You are right, in a normal market they aren't worth £4, but the realms of arena food, they are as good as they get for the price. Going off past experiences at other arenas. Of the guys who are unhappy with the price, how many went to the NIC open forum meetings about the arena catering. I know Jono72 went. Any others?

So.... because prices are very high elsewhere - that justifies the prices being high at the NIC? Well, yes. It's called the 'going market rate'. Having run my own pub company fo rnearly 10 years, the one thing I can understand about the NIC is the price of the beer. Doesn't mean I like paying it, I just understand how Leith's (the catering contractor) arrive at it.

To be honest I agree about the prices being 'market rate. What I don't agree with though is the poor quality of the food.
Like some others here I do occasionally eat at the NIC and on Saturday my wife decided to 'treat' me whilst she was off getting drinks between the first and second period. The 'cheese burger' I was presented with on her return could have been used as a puck, with the bun being the perfect thing to drive nails in with and the mysterious grey matter I assume was meat challenging for a place on the periodic table as the new most dense substance on our fair planet.
Unfortunately with the game restarting I wasn't in a position to be able to return the offending paperweight and so did what all good servicemen/ex-servicemen do and just ate the thing. Luckily I do have a strong stomach.

Doesn't mean I like paying it, I just understand how Leith's (the catering contractor) arrive at it. OK, I can understand that (although I was more talking about the food - I'm not a beer drinker, so have no knowledge or interest in that area). Thing is... that's the supplier viewpoint - which I agree is something to be taken into account - but I'm talking about from the customer side. Value for money... that's what customers want, yes? Higher price should equal higher quality, lower quality should mean lower prices... that's a fair demand, is it not? But what are the two major complaints from loads of people about the NIC catering? - high prices and low quality. That equals rip-off... regardless of whatever claims that suppliers make on that score, that's not VFM. And remember... "going market rate" is often a smokescreen for the entire industry (not just this one - plenty of others) to be ripping off the consumer... whether there is deliberate collusion or not. So... I've asked my question. And - apart from the rants aimed at anyone who dares to complain about anything to do with food, prices or whatever - the picture that is forming is actually pretty much the same as in previous seasons. High price, low quality... no VFM. So that'll be me not wasting my cash for another season then. Although I might have a look at this new stall near the entrance... open mind and all that.

As often is the case, while disappointed with buster's obnoxious, borderline aggressive tone, I agree with his point. As with anyone selling anything they're free to sell what they want (within legal bounds) and charge what they want for it. The customer is free to decide if they're happy to pay the asking price for the goods on offer, or not. If you're not happy to pay what they're asking for what they're selling then just don't, it's that simple. Note: I'm certainly not advocating any kind of organised boycott, but if enough people are happy to pay those prices for that stuff then nothing will change. shall you start sneaking food in? breaking the rules? yeah that will help? are you going to start going somewhere during period breaks? yeah, like you'll have the time. stop being so stupid. all this talk is pathetic, if you cant stomach the food or the prices eat before/afterward or go without. I've done all of the above at one time or another. At the last game I went to Rocco's in the first break, ate my chips and got back to my seat before the 2nd period with no trouble whatsoever. I also took my own bottle of Sprite in with me (I know that's running the risk of having it confiscated if caught, but I'm happy to take that risk). I was driving at the last game so wasn't bothered about beer, but in the past (since realising that real ale is the way forward and that what they sell at the NIC isn't really beer) I've had something to eat and a pint before the game, then gone to the Castle for a pint in each break and after the game. That's 4 pints without missing a second of play. Granted, I don't get a drink while the puck's in play but if you can't go 45 minutes without a beer then the prices at the NIC are the least of your problems IMO.

The NIC like most arenas and football grounds serve "food" and drink which is overpriced, poor quality and usually barely warm (food).
You know what you are getting so eat before you leave.
I never ceased to be amazed how many pints some people seem compelled to drink during the course of a game, asking me to stand up several times each period, back late from the interval, and the susequent toilet breaks. Even the ladies seem to get through 6 or 7 pints - and they wonder why they are "portly" Then again it is a free country and a night out. It's personal choice.
I will be ripped off at Trent Bridge on Tuesday and Thursday so I just take my own food - simples....
Rant over

What type of person would that be then?, How dare you dismiss people who are happy with the food with such a demeaning remark, do you think if people are happy with the catering they are fools then? If you wish to take the moral high ground, make sure you wont fall off your perch! Buster may have been abrupt but he was totally correct, the prices are not OTT for Arena's, at the U2 gig two standard bottles of coke £5-00, but if you are thirsty you accept that the occasion and the venue at times dictates the prices, so the choice is simple, buy it if you want or do not! As for the NIC management wrong again, they have already got some money whether you eat or not from the contract, it is the caterer who wants the majority of your money!

I know hockey tops are great conceelers, i used to get a footlong subway melt in up my sleeves.
I've yet to go eat the food this season, however it looks ok to me. It was an improvement last season on what it used to be. But as you guys say it is overpriced.

You're exactly the type of person that the NIC management hope to attract. im not saying dont air your points, but what i would suggest is air them to the correct people rather than on here. you say that i am being ripped off? am i being ripped off if i consciously know what price i am going to be paying whilst being happy with that? thats not being ripped off. rock city (the last time i went to a gig) charged £3 a pint of lager. thats only 20p less than what i paid on saturday night for a pint. am i being ripped off there because i want to enjoy a pint while i watch a band play live? nope. you (and i quote) level headed people can moan all you like, but you'll be the ones going thirsty and having to make alternate arrangements for food and drink, while i'll have the comfort of convinience. will i have to pay a little more than pub prices for my pint? yes. am i willing to accept that and not whine and moan about it and then do nothing to attempt to change the prices? yes. what really gets my goat is the fact that we all know what the prices are. we all have a choice. if you dont like it, then dont buy. it really is as simple as that. i for one do like the beer (and very occasionally partake in a hotdog) and i make the choice to buy it and enjoy it. if that is the sort of person that the NIC management attract then so be it. but im a man of convinience, i dont want to be running around in period breaks and trying to get to the bar at a different pub when i can queue for a pint and be back in my seat within 5 minutes. less walking, less effort, same amount of beer. you really ought to do something about this whole price/quality bee that you have in your bonnet, or just simply, as i put before, deal with it.

at the end of the day the arena is just that, an arena.
At gig I expect beer and food to be expensive and poor quality.
Just because we happen to go regularly to the arena doesnt mean anything will change for us.
Much like service station food, they have you by the short and curlys. pay the prices or go elsewhere before/after.
Me? I dont get that hungry that I HAVE to eat a cheeseburger (costing £4) every 2 hours. I quite happily will do a 3 hour return journey from an away game without stopping at services and paying their prices, I will wait till I get home. Why should hockey be different?
Im not saying people dont have the right to be unhappy about it. Hell I am... If it was up to me there would be a normal priced KFC, maccy Ds, subway as well as a mini roccos and a decent bar. but its not up to me, its up to the NIC.
