I am well aware of brown envelopes, and yes we more than likely have broken the wage cap. When I say sticking two fingers up to the 'cap', I mean blow it apart as Sheffield did in their Grand Sham season, which I am pretty sure we haven't done as yet. And if we have we have messed up big style. Who honestly thinks we haven't got a tighter, and much more interesting league, because of the fact that a cap does exist, no matter how easy or difficult it is to abuse. Personally I think without it, we might as well have a three or four team league, as the likes of Hull, Cardiff, Manchester, Newcastle and Edinburgh would not be able to compete at all, leaving many boring one sided games.

If I may pick you up on 2 small points In the Sheffield 'Grand Sham' season, we were cited in the ensuing enquiry as also breaking the wage cap. Secondly you mention Manchester and Newcastle, they were as bad as Sheffield in the SMG/Jokerit era. It needs to be remembered that the team owners are also the league board, however the tone of your post is correct, NB/GM realised many moons ago that they didn't need to compete or win trophies because the fans would keep coming back.

How suprising, yet another dig at the long suffering 'LOYAL SUPPORTERS' of the Nottingham Panthers. Who, by the way are the reason why we are the richest club in Britain. Also I notice you keep 'coming back', admittedly not to actually watch the team, but you do seem to be happy keep The Cage buzzing with your negative comments.

If you don't like don't post simple, tell me its not a fact that we have won 3 trophies from the 30 odd contended in the NIC era, yet crowds have stayed the same, so they are not coming for the success, unlike clubs 'ahem' further North. Attack the post by all means, debate it if you can, don't attack the poster. Edit -Welcome to the cage btw

In my opinion your right Milko. Panthers certainly break the cap, just not by as much as some people think they do.
Looking at the team panthers put out this year i wouldnt say there were any particularly big profile high earners there. Apart from Tessier, Molin and Richardson none of the others would make you say "wow look who we just signed". Most of them stats or resume wise were just regular ECHL or CHL guys.
Why people always seem to think of Panthers when "breaking the cap" is mentioned doesn't seem to fit looking at where we recruit players from. If we went out and signed 5 recent ex AHL guys then yeah you could understand it,but we dont,we just seem to put together a good competitive team and thats it !
One thing i find a little worrying with Corey is he wants to get the team signed quickly like last year. Makes me wonder if the team is coming second to his hockey school back home so he can concentrate on that all summer. Yes get your certs back by all means, but surely leave at least a couple of slots open for a bit later ?

Interesting point though, are we not sending any juniors on the 'opportunity of a lifetime' this year?

The dig, is in that you infer that by the loyal fans coming back to support their team, win, lose or draw, they are idiots. Yes you are correct with your stat, but I would rather follow a team that has a loyal fan base, than Sheffields' sing when your winning fans.

Loyal fan base or not, it does not take away from the fact that we are perpetual under achievers, and however much you don't like the comparisons to other sports, and the fact that we are the richest and best supported club, with the best facilities, we still seem to not compete year after year (and that is a fact) I can't understand why we couldn't get the likes of Whistle or McSorely, and why the really good players who made their career here in the UK like Vez, Pax, Hand, Lobby and Courtney didn't want to come to us (however much you may dislike them).
