This one caught my eye because the first hockey game I ever attended was a pre-season challenge game, Panthers vs Malmo Redhawks (start of the 1999-2000 season) www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=265093&lid=sublink012&lpos=headlines_nhlNot good... Thing is - are they only the first of many? And what kind of knock-on effect will there be down at our level? With the IIHF transfer deadline almost upon us... is it too late for some British clubs (not necessarily ourselves) to make a player move or two because of this?

So I assume they are still going as a club? Said they had new players. As in, this is just a certain type of player contracted who have been released? Otherwise along the lines of the man saying about not being advised ,why take in new blood ? Although all the players may have gone in one swoop I presume the club feared. A sorry situation in or out of this world trouble of finance difficulty.

Scary given the new 'owners' of the EIHL appear to be from that part of the world.

I see (in today's eurohockey transfer coverage) that Dan Welch's team (in Denmark?) has also folded.

Sorry Rob, I forgot how many people have had a complete sense of humour bypass.... (and those who have had a lack of wanting panthers to win implant) Ted, No sense of humour bypass here re your comment on the Steelers... personally I just read that and moved on. Hey ho, no harm no foul. But I for one am getting sick and <SWEARING DELETED> tired of this attitude that if you don't go total gonzoid and wish every kind of ill on the opposition, then you don't want to win enough. What a load of bovine excrement. It is perfectly possible to want a bit of respect/honour in sport and still be totally committed to your team winning. You can congratulate the opposition on a win, or commiserate them on losing a player to injury without being in the slightest bit less than 100% behind your team. You don't have to put the boot in or hate the opposition or anything like that to want your team to win. This just seems to be a common attitude at the moment, this accusing people of having "a lack of wanting panthers to win", and I for one am heartily sick of it being rammed down our throats all the time. We don't all have to support the team the same way, do we? Different does not mean inferior.

He makes a comment wanting a guy to be out for the season of the opposition and gets personally attacked for it! He didnt say he wanted him hurt, or that it should be done on purpose, just that it would benefit us if he was hurt. Since that, people have jumped on to take sides which has made the points (both sides) look more exaggerated. If people adapted your attitude of "we dont all see the game the same way" and "just because we dont agree, different doesnt mean inferior" the whole debate would not have come to light. Then again, this place probably wouldnt exist anyway ;D

Fair point on that particular incident, Rich... but that's just the latest example in a long line of 'not wanting to win enough' jibes. It's just something that keeps getting trotted out, and I for one am heartily sick of it. Anyway.... back on topic. Not only has, as Number 9 mentioned, the Danish club Totempo HvIK pulled out of their league due to imminent bankruptcy, but the whispers are that a couple of French clubs are teetering on the brink as well. Plus, I believe, there has been concern of late about the finances of several clubs in the German second-tier league. It's not looking good, ladies and germs... Having said that (thinking about it just before hitting 'Post Reply'! ;D) as with most things, it's never black and white. The pound is taking a massive battering agains the dollar, the Euro, the yen, probably the Outer Wotzitstan yak-token for all I know... so as others have rightly pointed out, our buying power could be significantly lower next season. However, if (and I don't WANT this to happen, not to any team anywhere!) there are a significant number of teams going bust, dropping leagues or just cutting payrolls... this could mean an increased supply of players without jobs and maybe willing to accept a bit less for any that they can find (lower demand + same supply = lower prices). I doubt that this would completely offset the exchange-rate problem (we're taking a real hammering right now) but it might reduce the impact a little? Just a thought...

Shaggy... I wasnt directing anything at you mate....
Rich has a good point though.... everyone always says we all have the right to an opinion and all see the game a different way... but my views are better than yours because I take the moral highground... im equally sick of that...
But yes.... credit crunch... very bad

Wait and see what the £/Euro exchange is at the start of next season. Europe is apparently in crisis, but are covering it up at the moment. Forecasts say up to 1.75 Euro to the pound is on the way.
This will hearten the high stick wielding, non-contact, five foot four, nine stone, afraid of a fight, Euro lovers amongst you. There maybe some DELers on the way over.WARNING!! YOU HAVE JUST GONE THROUGH A TONGUE IN CHEEK PARAGRAPH. PLEASE CALM DOWN FOR A SECOND BEFORE PROCEEDING. THERE MAY BE ANOTHER ONE ON ITS WAY BEFORE THE END SO PLEASE BE WARNED, OR CLOSE YOUR EYES NOW.
The dollar will remain strong against the pound, so there may be a dearth of six foot nine, two eighty pound, power forward, full contact, open ice checking, God bless America and all who sail in her enforcers in the Elite league next year.
If the league exists of course.

Wait and see what the £/Euro exchange is at the start of next season. Europe is apparently in crisis, but are covering it up at the moment. Forecasts say up to 1.75 Euro to the pound is on the way. You could well be right... the pound is taking a hammering right now because Britain's economy is so obviously in the toilet... but the rest will likely follow. So yes - the pound/euro exchange rate could well end up going back somewhat in our favour by the summer...

It's a collective of descriptions used by those posters on here who dislike the European style of play/player. Similarly, that which I used for the North American style of play/player is a collective of descriptions used by fans of that genre on this forum. That's all it is. A bit of fun on a Saturday morning. It was not intended to wind anyone up. It has absolutely sweet FA with my view on either style, and you do not know which I favour, if any, from that.
In future I will ensure that my posts are appropriately illustrated with smileys to minimise the risks of any misunderstanding. Did you leave your sense of humour in bed this morning when you got up? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I notice you did not direct any comments towards the fact that I said all Americans were six foot nine. Are you saying that all Americans are six foot nine?
If you ever get to know me, you will quickly come to realise that I am probably the least serious person you will meet. The point I tried, clearly in vain, to make above, is that we may see players coming in from Europe rather than than North American and Canada next season.
Posting on this forum has become a chore, where even the most carefully thought out and logical post can get ripped apart by a pedant who completely misunderstands or misinterprets the original point, and then forces their own opinion down your neck, liberally garnished with a couple of insults. I guess my generally satirical attitude does not correlate with those respondents. The views of others are of interest to me. The arguments and insults are worthless.
Thanks for your continued constructive criticism. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

personally I find humour on forums does not generally work it can be misread and creates a diversion from the topic, had I realised you were so thin skinned I would not have mentioned it, love the way you edit a post before after a comment by the way to distort the actual comment, a little small minded in my view but hey am I serious or is this a tongue in cheek comment, smileys not included.
