Many intelligent persons here. Can construct a message far better than me. But, it's apparent that the intelligence can be used in a negative way also. Let's get back on track here and let me be more on topic in my usual bad gramatic(al)? way. (with Smiley (from the forum choices)... ******************** It's a crap year ain't it? Hopefully hockey clubs can get to the end of this season and re-group for the next.Fit, haelthy and the rest.

The whole issue has come to light because of people slamming people like Teds attitude though Shaggy. He makes a comment wanting a guy to be out for the season of the opposition and gets personally attacked for it! He didnt say he wanted him hurt, or that it should be done on purpose, just that it would benefit us if he was hurt. Since that, people have jumped on to take sides which has made the points (both sides) look more exaggerated. Fair point on that particular incident, Rich... but that's just the latest example in a long line of 'not wanting to win enough' jibes. It's just something that keeps getting trotted out, and I for one am heartily sick of it. Anyway.... back on topic. Not only has, as Number 9 mentioned, the Danish club Totempo HvIK pulled out of their league due to imminent bankruptcy, but the whispers are that a couple of French clubs are teetering on the brink as well. Plus, I believe, there has been concern of late about the finances of several clubs in the German second-tier league. It's not looking good, ladies and germs... Having said that (thinking about it just before hitting 'Post Reply'! ;D) as with most things, it's never black and white. The pound is taking a massive battering agains the dollar, the Euro, the yen, probably the Outer Wotzitstan yak-token for all I know... so as others have rightly pointed out, our buying power could be significantly lower next season. However, if (and I don't WANT this to happen, not to any team anywhere!) there are a significant number of teams going bust, dropping leagues or just cutting payrolls... this could mean an increased supply of players without jobs and maybe willing to accept a bit less for any that they can find (lower demand + same supply = lower prices). I doubt that this would completely offset the exchange-rate problem (we're taking a real hammering right now) but it might reduce the impact a little? Just a thought... Fair post, as usual. The point I was making was the guys who are saying "you dont support the team because you dont boo players etc" are usually reacting to people who get very personal and take the moral highground. They dont force their point, they are responding to points made against them (in general). FWIW, I think we need to be a bit nastier, but dont need to get carried away. Too many teams look forward to Nottingham away, but Id much rather we made the NIC a fortress on the ice than off it. On topic, I dont think we are in a worse position as a league than in previous seasons. The teams who dont make money still dont make money, the teams who make profit still make profit and those in limbo are still in limbo. As a sport worldwide, hockey may suffer a little but there is less money around, most sectors will notice a negative impact.
