As the NIHL season 2017/18 draws to a close a couple of results from the weekend: Solway Sharks 4 Solihull Barons 4. Sunday: Solihull Barons 5 Solway Sharks 3. A couple of games will not be played : Telford Tigers v Billingham Stars and Solway Sharks v Deeside Dragons but these two will not have an influence on the play offs. It is looking like Deeside Dragons down to Laidler Div 2 and Sutton Sting to make a return to the Moralee Div 1, as it stands, that is unless discussions during the off season say otherwise, Given how ice hockey is organised in the uk we just might be met with the odd surprise. Can't wait? For some the play offs await.

Tonight's Results: Solihull Barons 3 Sheffield Steeldogs 4. Telford Tigers 5 Hull Pirates 5. Telford fought back to tie this game and now have to face the Pirates on Sunday at Hull. This will be massive for Telford if they win this one up there?

Tonight's Play off results.
Sheffield Steeldogs 5 Solihull Barons 2. Hull Pirates 3 Telford Tigers 4
Telford Tigers did a remarkable job in going to Hull and coming away with the win. Hull Pirates looked strong for most of the season and ended with nothing whilst the Tigers appeared to be under achieving given that they were the EPIHL winners last season. So we have a Tigers v Steeldogs play off final here in the North with the Steeldogs looking for the double having been already crowned the Moralee Conference Div 1 Champions for the 2017/18 season.

Moralee Div 1 Conference Play Offs: Telford Tigers 6 Sheffield Steeldogs 0. An absolutely unexpected result this one as the 'dogs' have been almost unstoppable this season and rarely have they been shut out. Whether they can overturn this lead has to be in doubt but one never knows?

Tonight's Play Off in Moralee Div 1 Conference: Sheffield Steeldogs 3 Telford Tigers 2. Good weekend for the Tigers with a 8-3 aggregate win over the Conference Champions. In the South Div 1 Play Off finals: Peterborough Phantoms end the weekend with an overall 3-2 win over Basingstoke Bison. The Phantoms should be lined up against Sheffield with Telford facing Basingstoke in the North V South play off finals.

I managed to get the play off teams in the wrong order but here are the results of the semi finals and the result from the final.
Results Semis: Telford Tigers 3 Peterborough Phantoms 1 and Sheffield Steeldogs 1 Basingstoke Bison 3
Result Final: Telford Tigers 0 Basingstoke Bison 4.
The final at Coventry saw a full benched Tigers take on a short benched Bison. The Bison with 6 fewer players gave the Tigers a real hockey lesson as they managed 41 shots on their net whilst the Tigers replied with a miserly 15 shots. Basingstoke Bison now add the play off title to their South Div 1 title. A great deal of anger from a number of Tigers fans after what has been perceived as a real capitulation by the Telford team.

Our congratulations to the Nottingham under 15s Tigers who took the England North title beating Sheffield at the NIC earlier today 4-0. Some up and coming players in the pipeline for the Lions a number of whom attend the Nottingham Ice Hockey Academy. Well done guys we look forward to the Lions logo appearing on the your shirts in the near future.

GB hit the top tier with their tremendous performances in the recent World Championships. Twenty four years since our guys played at that level with a number of dual nationals in the team mix at that time. How times have changed and that, to me anyway, highlights that development of British players is vital and that the clubs are beginning to finally get things moving on that front. From the Nottingham Junior set up we see Rob Farmer, Rob Lachowicz, and new on the scene Ollie Betteridge playing their part in this historical event. Nice to see our ex Lions doing their bit for GB. Hopefully this might encourage greater interest nationally and that some funding at all levels might be the outcome Although there have been a number of false dawns before this time there just might be some daylight this time around?

Nottingham Tigers u15s are National Champions as they travelled to Sheffield to play the local u15s with the Nottingham jjuniors running out 3-1 winners. Junior hockey certainly looking positive with some good kids on the player conveyor. The Lions are waiting for some of these guys to achieve their 16th birthdays so that they can try to fill a Nottingham Lions shirt. Well done to the team and their hard working coaches and managers, volunteers all, we salute you.

Great news from the Nottingham Junior Ice Hockey Club as the u18s head to the top tier in their age group whilst at the u9s big things are happening. In a four way competition the youngsters scored 40 goals and conceded just 5, and won all of their games. Several Nottingham u15 juniors represented the Midlands Conference in the Czech Republic winning 3 of their 4 games. A very good result in a European hockey heartland. Some more good news from a hard working club and some talented equally hard working young players.

The Lions hit the ice last night and commenced limbering up for the second season in the Moralee League. Early signings are the return of Captain Elliot Perrin, Luke Thomas, and Paul Stanley. Three stand out guys and will form a big part of the senior element within the team and create a stable environment for the guys coming through the Nottingham System. From what I gather Import Ondrej Pniok will not be returning for the next campaign. Whether or not Ondrej's brother Jakub will return is yet to be seen but other options, hopefully, will appear before the season kicks off. A number of the other teams are quite advanced with their recruiting mainly picking up the players from last season, as they all do of course.

Big Ben strikes again as #88 Ben Wilson signs for his 8th season with the Lions. Not a prolific goal scorer but certainly has a presence out there on the ice that definitely cannot be missed. Welcome back 'Big Man'.

The Lions sign their first import player as 28yr old Czech forward Jakub Klima joins the team. He comes with an impressive record having spent six seasons in the English leagues with teams based in the South. Between the years 2011 to 2017 Klima racked up 409 points in 181 games with an average of 2.25 points per game. Having never experienced games in the North he is aware of the challenges ahead and he is excited at the prospect of playing for the Lions. Matt Bradbury Head Coach spoke of his delight at the latest addition to the squad believing that his style of play can only compliment the already established players and help with the younger guys as well. As an out and out attacking player he will no doubt provide more options and opportunities for the forwards to increase the goal tally and perhaps win the tight games that were difficult to win last season. Welcome to Nottingham Jakub. More signings to come.

Yet another great signing as Marc Levers signs for the Lions for the new season. A real class act and yet another player for the younger guys to look up to and to learn the importance of being a team player. I have always been an admirer of Marc having watched him come through the junior system and to then become an asset to every team that he played for as a senior player. Always proud to pull on a Nottingham jersey and commit himself to the task. Welcome back Marc you are an inspirational player on every level.

Really great to see both Cameron Pywell and Ben Wood back with the Lions. Cameron has come on leaps and bounds over the seasons and had a particularly good 2017/18 season. What can you say about Ben Wood apart from he has always just seemed to have been there year in and year out. A great role model for the up and coming players and a genuine squad player who gives his all in every game. At 30 he is the longest serving player with the club and remains an absolute asset to the team. Welcome back to both these guys. The news on the netminder side has taken an interesting turn as we welcome 19yr old Ash Smith on a two way deal with Manchester Storm. Although still at the latter end of his teenage years he has acquired a great deal of experience with a number of NIHL clubs including Bradford, Sheffield, Altrincham, and was also on loan during 2016/17 season to EIHL Coventry Blaze. He has put up some good figures with a 93% over two seasons and 35 games with the Altrincham Aces. A young man on the rise who will find a big challenge awaiting him as he comes up against the big guns in the NIHL 1 Conference.

Good to see the return of the talented Connor Glossop. After a tough introduction into the world of EPL hockey he took time out before returning to the Lions for a brief period last season. This guy has so much going for him and is still only young with his 21st birthday only a few days away. I certainly remember him playing a massive part in taking Deeside Dragons apart at Deeside a game that shook the Welshman to their core although they did go on to take the season as their imports dominated the conference. He played alongside Ollie Betteridge in a strong Lions team at one stage and showed what a potentially outstanding player he could be given the correct support and preparation. He knows the game and if he retrieved his form of old he could be quite dominant and a stand out player for any team, but hopefully just for the Nottingham Lions. Welcome back Connor.

I’m going to make an effort and actually go to a Lions game this season; I’ve been saying it for an eternity.

If so, do you also have the same problem as me where this thread keeps appearing even though I have read it? It just doesn’t disappear Now why would you want this thread to disappear? Taking orders?
