Tonight's results: Telford Tigers 9 Blackburn Hawks 1, Solway Sharks 5 Solihull Barons 2, and Nottingham Lions 1 Billingham Stars 6. All three games went to form so no shock results. Billingham continue their winning run as they take they the Lions on home ice. Not looking good for the road trip as the Stars are flying at the moment with little to stop them taking the third game of the four during this season. It would be good to get a closer result but the win maybe a bit beyond the Lions up at Billingham. Period Scores: 2-0/2-1/2-0. Scorers Marc Levers 1+0, Joe Humphries 0+1, and Paul Stanley 0+1. Just 8 games to go in the Lions first season in Div 1 and to date they have not made a bad showing at all given their inability to raise the sort of cash to enable them to have a real crack at the teams with the budgets the Lions only wish they had available to push on and compete. As far as I am concerned given the very limited resources this team has performed better than teams in the past that made the move to old Div 1 before the EPHL teams joined at the beginning of this season. I well remember the Sheffield Senators moving up to the old Div 1 and ending their season without a single win. The Lions have won five in a much stronger conference. The three ex EPHL teams now occupy the top three places in the Conference.

Tonight's results: Whitley Warriors 4 Sheffield Steeldogs 1. A bit of a shock for the 'Dogs' who are so used to winning but every run comes to an end and that occurred emphatically tonight. Hull Pirates 3 Telford Tigers 4. This result takes the Tigers to top of the conference, for now. Blackburn Hawks 2 Solway Sharks 3. Telford and Solway with four point weekends. Solihull Barons 16 Deeside Dragons 0. The Dragons last three games has seen them concede 54 goals without reply. The Dragons must now feel that relegation is only a game away as they just appear unable to get a positive result. The Lions took to the road with the formidable task of getting anything from the game upm at Billingham following on from the Stars 1-6 win in Nottingham on Saturday. Defying the odds the boys put up a real fight losing out with the Stars grabbing the win in overtime. Score at the end of regulation time 5-5. Period Scores: 0-0/3-4/2-1/O/T 0-1. Scorers: Paul Stanley 2+2, Marc Levers 2+1, Ruskin Hughes 1+0, Joe Humphries 0+3, Luke Smith 0+1, Jakub Pniok 0+1, Thomas Hovell 0+1. The Lions come home with a point from the game tonight so job as near to done as we could have hoped for given the strength of the Stars on home ice.

This weekend's games: Saturday: Solihull Barons v Whitley Warriors, Billingham Stars v Telford Tigers, Blackburn Hawks v Hull Pirates. The Nottingham Lions take the short trip to Sheffield to face the Steeldogs in what will be yet another massive task for our boys. The 'Dogs' tasted defeat against the Warriors last weekend, a taste that they were not used to experiencing. The loss meant that they gave up the top spot in the conference to the Tigers. They will definitely be out to correct that lapse in form with the Lions rightly in their sights. Telford will be looking to strengthen their present top place in the conference with a win at Billingham. Both the Barons and the Pirates should hold form and collect the points in their respective games.

Tonight's Results: Solihull Barons 7 Whitley Warriors 3, Billingham Stars 3 Telford Tigers 12, Blackburn Hawks 2 Hull Pirates 6. Steeldogs v Lions playing third period result to follow but it is looking like a strong win for the 'Dogs' as they go into the third 7-1 to the good.

Results Update: Sheffield Steeldogs 8 Nottingham Lions 1. Period scores: 4 -0/3-1/1.0. Lions goal scored by one of the newer guys Ryan Winters with the assist from one of the old guard Luke Thomas. The Lions have the tendency to be slow starters and against quality teams such as the ex EPHL guys and this can prove very decisive. Second and third periods showed the Lions digging in and really making the opposition work. Noticed tonight that the 'Dogs' strong contingent of Brits did the majority of the scoring. Not a bad showing against the second placed tem in the conference.
Sunday games: Whitley Warriors v Solway Sharks, Deeside Dragons v Hull Pirates, Blackburn Hawks v Telford Tigers, Solihull Barons v Sheffield Steeldogs, and Nottingham Lions v Billingham Stars. The Tigers and the Pirates should take the points in these games but the games involving the Barons and the Warriors are difficult to call. My choice in the latter two games, on form, has to be the Steeldogs and the Sharks to take the points. Billingham Stars come to Nottingham having claimed three out of three in the games between these two and with the Stars looking to overhaul the Hawks in the conference will be determined to finish the series by getting the final win against the Lions. The Lions managed to take a point with an overtime loss against the Stars last Sunday and will be out to improve on that result. The Stars Chris Sykes has terrorised the Lions defence in past games and has been grabbing hat tricks in quite a number of games just recently. He will take some stopping. Face off is planned to be at the earlier time of 6.00pm.

Tonight's Results: Solihull Barons 2 Sheffield Steeldogs 3, Whitley Warriors 3 Solway Sharks 1, Blackburn Hawks 4 Telford Tigers 3 (Hawks win on penalty shots), Deeside Dragons 4 Hull Pirates 23.
Billingham Stars complete their season dominance of the Lions with an emphatic 0-6 result. Poor first period set the scene as the Stars take the first period 0-3 followed 0-2 and 0-1 second and third periods. As the Dragons are still struggling to get anything out of the season the Lions must feel some sense of relief. At the start of the season the Lions looked at teams where home wins might be possible and the Stars were one of their targets but no more as they take the series four games to nil. Whitley Warriors were also on the list of four teams where points might be gained and to the Lions credit they managed an away win at Whitley earlier in the season. As we head towards the Lions first Div 1 season it is true to say that they have defied the odds and have made a more than reasonable showing given the strength of the opposition.

From what is out there on social media the Lions v Billingham game on Sunday refereeing was by someone from the South at a cost that created a loss to the team on the night. It would appear, presumably, that there might not have been an official available more locally. Hopefully the EIHA will be able to find a more local official in the future as the losses will only further damage the Lions fragile resources.

Yes the scoreline went against the Lions and on paper at least was the worst of the 3; But trying to acknowledge the positives, the performance by the team for the majority of the first period was, IMO, some of the best hockey, fluent passing and a very effective fore-check, we have seen from the guys this season. there was a long spell where the Lions shut down the Stars and prevented them from getting any form of game going.

It might sound harsh on the Lions but in a number of games throughout the season the team have found the first period problematic but I did not comment on the team's commitment to the job in hand. They have certainly played good fluent hockey but still found themselves down in the first period but then as the game progressed the period scores reduced. Given that the Lions were virtually written off following their move from Div 2 they have proved the doubters wrong on a number of counts and that is the major positive. I think that in the main I take a positive stand regarding the team and that will continue.

Weekend Games:Saturday: Solway Sharks v Hull Pirates, Telford Tigers v Sheffield Steeldogs, and Solihull Barons v Nottingham Lions. The two top games just have to be the Sharks and the Tigers who face the Pirates and the 'Dog's'. Two absolutely cracking games given the battle for points at the top of the conference. The Lions hit the road for the short trip to the Hobs Moat Solihull rink. The last game of the season against the Barons who hold a 2 to 1 lead in the series. Always a tough place to play and with the Barons wanting to put behind them the shock loss to the Lions 4-5 earlier in the season on their home ice they will be looking to end the four game series with a positive result, as will the Lions.
Sunday: Hull Pirates v Telford Tigers, Blackburn Hawks v Solihull Barons, Billingham Stars v Sheffield Steeldogs, Deeside Dragons v Solway Sharks, and Nottingham Lions v Whitley Warriors. The Pirates v Tigers game has to be the stand out as Telford, to strengthen their lead at the top, have to bag the points in this one. The 'Dogs' will need to be on the top of their game to get the points at Billingham but on form are well capable of downing the Stars.
As with the Barons the Lions have taken points off the Warriors on their ice but come to Nottingham leading also 2-1 in the four game series. David Longstaff's team did cause a bit of a ripple in the top echelons of the conference a couple of weeks ago when they achieved a strong home win against the Sheffield Steeldogs. They are a tough team with a lot of talent and the Lions will have to be on the top of their game from the first whistle to the final hooter for a positive outcome.

Tonight's Results: Solway Sharks 5 Hull Pirates 8, Telford Tigers 1 Sheffield Steeldogs 4. The 'Dogs' take over at the top with Hull and Telford on equal points but, with the Pirates holding two games in hand over the Tigers. The Lions headed to the West Midlands and to the cauldron that is the Hobs Moat with the hope of getting a sniff of something out of this potentially uphill encounter with the Barons. A cracking first period with Sam Gospel taking 28 shots but with only one getting past him. The Lions did tie up the first period when Joe Humphries struck on four minutes assisted by Paul Stanley. In the second the torrent of shots kept Sam busy in the Lions net but again only gave up the one goal with the period ending up with the Barons 2-1 up and all to play for in the third. A taut third period went into the final minute without a goal until with only 35 seconds to go Marc Levers popped up to even the score. On to overtime and the winning goal for a very relieved Barons but one well earned point for the Lions. MOM Sam Gospel who faced 79 shots for two goals, absolutely incredible. In the Lions line up tonight and getting ice time were 2 u16s and 4 u18s players. This game, on the road, will have taken it's toll but hopefully the boys will be up for the visit of the Whitley Warriors on Sunday night with a 7.30pm face off. Half term so no school on Monday, an ideal time to bring the kids to watch some ice hockey at a price that cannot be beaten.

Tonight's Results: Hull Pirates 5 Telford Tigers 1, Blackburn Hawks 5 Solihull Barons 6, Billingham Stars 1 Sheffield Steeldogs 5. Tigers have a blank weekend dropping them to third in the conference with the Pirates moving into second place. The Steeldogs take a four point weekend and strengthen their place at the head of the table. Deeside Dragons 3 Solway Sharks 6. A better showing by the Dragons but still no points to show for the effort. The Lions put in a spirited performance and had their chances against the Whitley Warriors but came away from the game with nothing to show for their effort as the Warriors took the game 0-5. Maybe following on from the efforts of last night the Lions found it a bit of a game too far but given the opposition over the weekend a point is probably more than they expected. The Lions seem to be grabbing points on the road a fact which indicates that on their night the Lions are somewhat more formidable than their form suggests.

Weekend Games: Tonight: Sheffield Steeldogs v Hull Pirates.
Saturday: Telford Tigers v Hull Pirates, Blackburn Hawks v Deeside Dragons, Solway Sharks v Billingham Stars, and Sheffield Steeldogs v Solihull Barons.
Sunday: Sheffield Steeldogs v Deeside Dragons, Whitley Warriors v Telford Tigers, Hull Pirates v Solway Sharks, Billingham Stars v Solihull Barons, and Nottingham Lions v Blackburn Hawks.
The Lions have only three games left in their first season in Div 1 with home games against Blackburn and Hull and with a final away game at Telford. Realistically given the battle for the top spot the games against Hull and Telford, if they go to form, would not look to end positively for the Lions but the odd point maybe possible as an outside bet. The home game against Blackburn might offer the Lions possibly the last opportunity for points should the guys get into the game early on. Points in this one are achievable.
Deeside Dragons have six games left so potentially 12 points but given their run in to the end of the season and their form to date this would be a remarkable turn around in form.
I note on the Lions twitter that someone has commenced a crowd funding campaign in support of the team and I wish them good luck and hope that their efforts do succeed as the team is certainly in need of extra funds to keep their collective heads above water.
Congratulations are in order for the Nottingham Junior Section as a number of boys have been selected for England teams at u13s, u15s, plus 1 girl selected for the u17s England Girls Team.

Tonight's Result: The Steeldogs drop to second place in the conference as the Pirates take the game 3-6. A possible 6 points still available to the 'Dogs' with the Solihull Barons the visitors on Saturday and a four pointer game against the Deeside Dragons on Sunday. To stay in the race the Steeldogs need the wins.

Tonight's Results: Telford Tigers 4 Hull Pirates 2, Blackburn Hawks 14 Deeside Dragons 1, Solway Sharks 7 Billingham Stars 3, Sheffield Steeldogs 6 Solihull Barons 0. The 'Dogs' take back the top slot as Telford scupper the Pirates. I note from the conference table that the Lions have not yet been credited with the one point gained when they lost in overtime against the Solihull Barons last Saturday. For the Lions every point is precious but it would seem that the score was recorded as a win for the Barons in regulation time but our boys scored with 35 seconds left in regulation time to tie the game.

Cracking game tonight for the Lions, hosting Blackburn Hawks... close all game (although the Lions were heavily out-shot)... got to 5-5 at the end of regulation time, but the Hawks managed to get the second point in OT. Oddly, all 5 Lions goals were scored by Ben! It's not amazingly surprising that Ben Woods got a hat-trick, but big Ben Wilson (who would be the first to admit he's not a prolific scorer) got two as well. Rumours that the entire Lions team are going to be named 'Ben' for next Sunday's home game vs Hull Pirates are, of course. completely untrue...

Tonight's Results: Whitley Warriors 2 Telford Tigers 3, Hull Pirates 11 Solway Sharks 2, Billingham Stars 5 Solihull Barons 8, Sheffield Steeldogs 16 Deeside Dragons 2. Deeside Dragons cannot overtake the Lions following their losses this weekend so the end to their season is now certainly confirmed as the bottom club in the conference and facing relegation. Solway suffered their biggest loss of the season at the hands of the Pirates.
The Lions made a real game of it against the Blackburn Hawks with a 5-5 tie in regulation time. For the third time this season the Lions take the one point as they fail to score in overtime. Period scores: 2-3/2-2/1-0. Final score: 5-6. Overall an excellent performance against the odds and a memorable night for Ben Wood and Big Ben Wilson with Wood scoring three goals and Wilson two goals. Assists:Cameron Pywell +4, Elliott Perrin +2, and Jakub Pniok +2. The Lions have now been credited with the point from the Solihull Barons game last weekend. Just two games to go and a visit next Sunday by the big scoring Hull Pirates who are battling it out for the top spot against their rivals the Telford Tigers, and the Sheffield Steeldogs. For the Lions no matter what happens in these last couple of games they have managed to survive their first season in Div 1 having been tipped as the major candidate for relegation. A generally solid performance from the team with the lowest funding stream in the conference. Congratulations to the players, management, and coaching team for their belief and the commitment to the Nottingham Club.

Weekend games: Saturday: Telford Tigers v Billingham Stars, Hull Pirates v Blackburn Hawks (4 pointer), Solway Sharks v Deeside Dragons, Sheffield Steeldogs v Whitley Warriors. Hull Pirates with games in hand have the opportunity to take top honours but still have to overcome the Tigers, and the Steeldogs are their run in to the end of the season.
Sunday: Whitley Warriors v Billingham Stars, Deeside Dragons v Telford Tigers, Blackburn Hawks v Sheffield Steeldogs, Solihull Barons v Solway Sharks, and Nottingham Lions v Hull Pirates. The Nottingham v Hull is the last home game for the Lions and a real tough battle as the Pirates look to putting more points on the board. Hull will be looking to the final few games that for them will prove that they have or have not put together a conference winning team. The Pirates major stumbling block, on form, are the Steeldogs but the Tigers are still very much on the prowl.

Tonight's results: Hull Pirates 8 Blackburn Hawks 2, Sheffield Steeldogs 7 Whitley Warriors 0. The Pirates are now one point adrift of the Steeldogs who head the Conference. The Pirates will be scrapping for every point so the final home game for the Lions will be a real uphill battle. Our guys will go out and battle for the points that the Pirates might think are already in the bag but a good start will be the imperative to increase the chances of a positive result. Going to be hard but not impossible.

Tonight's results: Whitley Warriors 5 Billingham Stars 0, Blackburn Hawks 0 Sheffield Steeldogs 2, Deeside Dragons 1 Telford Tigers 17, Solihull Barons 5 Solway Sharks 3, and Nottingham Lions 1 Hull Pirates 7. Hull Pirates are on a big roll wins wise having already beaten the Hawks this weekend and sit still one point behind the Steeldogs but still with one game in hand over the conference leaders. Period Scores: 0-3/0-4/1-0. Goal scorer Ben Wood with the assist from Ruskin Hughes. A third period win for the Lions something that the Hawks did not manage on Saturday so a real plus for the guys. Always hard work against a team so much on song and with the championship so near there was no way that the Lions could have done more. Hull have still got two games left against top of the table Steeldogs and another tough one against Telford. A real fascinating finish to the season but it is a battle of the three ex EPIHL teams for top spot with the old Div 1 teams headed by Solway Sharks. The Lions end their first season in the top tier of the NIHL with a trip to Telford next Sunday.

It looks as though the Telford Tigers will end their season in third place after losing at home on Thursday to the Hull Pirates 3-6. The battle for the top honours is now a two horse race between the Sheffield Steeldogs and the Hull Pirates.. Weekend games: Saturday: Blackburn Hawks v Billingham Stars, Deeside Dragons v Whitley Warriors, Solway Sharks v Telford Tigers, and the big one as the Pirates could wrap up their season and the conference championship should they win in Sheffield against the Steeldogs.
Sunday: Solihull Barons v Blackburn Hawks, Billingham Stars v Whitley Warriors. Yet another possible killer game this time in Hull as the Steeldogs visit the Pirates. What an end to the season because if the 'Dogs' win on Saturday the championship will rest on this final game. It could not be closer. The Lions take to the road for their final game of their first season in Div 1 as they travel to Telford to face a very despondent Tigers who have failed to become the conference champions after winning the EPIHL championship last season. The Lions will have a final mountain to climb as the now ego damaged Tigers will be looking to inflict serious damage in their final three games against Solway, Billingham, and the Lions, although all of the points, if gained, will prove empty given the Tigers already guaranteed third place and no more in the conference.

Tonight's Results: Deeside Dragons 5 Whitley Warriors 9, Blackburn Hawks 6 Billingham Stars 4, Solway Sharks 2 Telford Tigers 3. The Moralee Conference heads to the wire as the Sheffield Steeldogs end a really tough battle with a 1-0 win against the Hull Pirates. Steeldogs head the table with 61 points and the Pirates with 60 points. These two go head to head at Hull on Sunday with the winner taking the spoils. It was a sell out at Ice Sheffield tonight with 1500 tickets sold and another bumper crowd is expected in Hull tomorrow. Should be an absolute cracker.

Tonight's Results: Billingham Stars 7 Whitley Warriors 4, Solihull Barons 5 Blackburn Hawks 3.
The Lions had a tough night at Telford losing out 11-2. Period Scores: 3-0/4-0/4-2. Scorers: Ruskin Hughes 2+0, Elliott Perrin 0+2, Cameron Pywell 0+1. That was the last game of the Lions inaugural season in Div 1 ending on 13 points and having grabbed a couple of good scalps on their way to achieving those points. Written off by a number of pundits due to the lack of the financial clout to survive the boys proved them wrong. Whereas the major players paying big for the teams they iced took the honours the Lions icing their long term senior players and a crop of youngsters played their part and showed no fear in the face of the opposition. They played the full sixty minutes in almost every game and all of the teams they faced knew that they had been in an all out game of hockey. Yes it has been hard going in more ways than one and every player gave their all with 100% commitment both physically and financially. The cost to each player wearing the black and gold for the Lions cannot adequately be calculated but it was significant and that cannot be denied. Thanks are due to the people supporting the team in all sorts of ways and all are volunteers who do it for the love of the sport. Congratulations to the team management and all of the coaching staff who also do what they do on a voluntary basis. Many thanks to Solutions for Accounting for their continued support for the junior sections of the club and particularly the Nottingham Lions. That's it for another season as the Lions will not be part of the play offs.To the players it's time for a wind down, some family time, and a well earned rest. Well done all of you.
Finally: Hull Pirates 4 Sheffield Steeldogs 6. The 'Dogs' are the Conference Champions and they did it the hard way. Well done guys.
