I'd use him 7+37 could be an asset on the PP.

I'd use him 7+37 could be an asset on the PP. He is excellent going forward. Unfortunatley he's a very poor defenceman, no thanks!

I personally want that last D slot to be a stay at home, depending how much we've got to spend I'd be more than happy with a Kris Taubert sort, nothing fancy just does the basics right

Have you never read Star 'articles'? there full of B.S. IMO, from this i would expect Starich signing with the steelers next week.

I agree Pantherdman, the fact its printed in the star rubbishes it! Read it and think the opposite and your never far wrong!
We are looking for a D partner for Corey. Sarich definatly isnt that man!

Along with a PR saying how he was about to sign for us but was persuaded at the last minute to stay in the family and he couldn't face leaving Sheffield because it's the bestest club in the whole wide world, blah blah blah. I hate the off-season.

Same as the Talbot thread - I think he will be back with us, but we shall see. Anything could happen yet though.
I couldnt see you guys going for a guy who is more offensive minded than Neilson and Meyers though!
I read Steel Talk, but dont post on it (and Im a Steelers fan - weird!) and some people reckon that it is not a D man's job to help provide the transition game from defence to attack. Personally I think thats rubbish. If you have a D man who can help the game transition through the neutral zone, it give you so many more options in your breakout. You guys moan about how boring the trap is, and it is, but its so effective against teams who do not have a D man who can transition or provide a different option at the breakout. All you have to deal with in that case is the 3 forwards as the cycle back to their own blue line to take a pass and work it through the neutral zone.
Opinions?

Weve got a D man as a coach so id bet (especially bearing in mind the current signings) he will be putting the emphasis on the forwards being the key for the transition play. Prime example of why your D men should play D and let the forwards do the rest? Last seasons team!

Fair do's Rich.
I understand why people are really into having the D men staying back as you can get caught, but that is what sets apart really class offensive puck handling D men from the average ones. The best pick their time to do it and it nadds another dynamic to the breakout. The average ones decide to do it at the wrong times, get caught out and things can go horribly wrong.
Anyone who follows the NHL though will often hear commentators there talk about needing a quality puck handling defenseman to help the transition game. They said the Sharks would get a major boost by getting Brian Campbell for that quality.
