Fair do's Rich. I understand why people are really into having the D men staying back as you can get caught, but that is what sets apart really class offensive puck handling D men from the average ones. The best pick their time to do it and it nadds another dynamic to the breakout. The average ones decide to do it at the wrong times, get caught out and things can go horribly wrong. Anyone who follows the NHL though will often hear commentators there talk about needing a quality puck handling defenseman to help the transition game. They said the Sharks would get a major boost by getting Brian Campbell for that quality. Very good post, I think the team can survive without a natural puck carrier though. The game in the NHL is very different to us (I dont mean the obvious standard difference) so thats slightly less relevant. Id love for us to sign Teplitski but other than that, the top end puck carrying D men you speak of dont play at this level. If they are that good they play in better leagues (Eg Martin leaving) and having an average one is too dangerous

Probably sarich is the best d man at carrying the puck the neutral zone, you certainly need one to have good transition.
We (wings) have 4 , i know slightly spoilt but it helps instead of having the forwards to come back to retrieve them all the time , unles you hav very gppd two way players

Personally, I think Sarich has the potential to be a very good puck moving defenceman. He just needs to work on his decision making. He has proved that when he doesnt try to over complicate things that he can be a very good D man.

He doesnt use his size enough and isnt agressive enough for me. I wudnt be gutted if he signed but I really dont think hes the right man to partner Corey

He can use his size and has done occasionally. Like I say its his decision making that lets him down. All the skills are there but he just needs to work on doing the basic things right and then picking his time to show just how good he is.

Sairch is a player who for 40 mins a game is as good as Neal Martin. Sadly, for the team he plays for, he has 20 minutes a game of being James Pease.
