I went to my first cricket match last night and it was a belter.
Was anyone else there?
Can anyone explain what happened with that really strange run-out? The guy had a runner who was in, but he ended up being run-out. I don't get it.

I wasnt there but i saw the incident your talking about, apparently both Shafayat and the runner ended up at the same end thus the runner was ran out, well Wessels was as he was who was meant to be in, i think instinct kicked in and Wessels (injured batsman) tried to run as well but crippled himself lol

Shafayat was on as a runner for Wessels. Wessels was on strike and hit the ball with Klusener at the other end. All three batsmen ran when he hit the ball and Wessels ended up at the non strikers end. Shafayat and Klusener ran again and Shafayat was clearly in at the strikers end and Klusener was clearly in at the non strikers end. The reason why Wessels had to get back to the other end is that the batsman who has the runner must be in the crease at the strikers end. That is why he had to run back down to the other end, and probably what Shafayat did not understand. Shafayat will probably get fined for his outburst at Peter Willey.

Just to clarify i have had a look for the actual rule, here is a copy of the rule: "(c) When a batsman with a runner is striker he remains himself subject to the Laws and will be liable to the penalties that any infringement of them demands. Additionally, if he is out of his ground when the wicket is put down at the wicket-keeper's end, he will be out in the circumstances of Law 38 (Run out) or Law 39 (Stumped) irrespective of the position of the non-striker or of the runner. If he is thus dismissed, runs completed by the runner and the other batsman before the dismissal shall not be scored. However, the penalty for a No ball or a Wide shall stand, together with any penalties to either side that may be awarded when the ball is dead. See Law 42.17 (Penalty runs)."

Aye, a little confusing at the time but it all makes sense in the end. Excellent performance all round though, the only down side being Sammy's pathetic dropped catch

Not seen which way round the fixtures will be played yet, but pleased we have avoided Essex.

Surrey v Notts is the first game.
Tim, you have no chance of deciding on the day unless you already have a ticket.

Tim is certainly very special!
There's also the option of tickets from a tout. That's how we got in the other day & it cost the same as the box office would have done. Granted it'll cost more as they become in shorter supply but if you've got the cash it's not a problem.
