Hi Lee to answer yopu question about 'proof listening'.
What normally happens is a band will record a song then then the producer would first gain the music meaning find the right volume then pan the music (this means if you need one guitar to come out of the left speaker and bass out the right speaker) you'd pan the instrument left or right or keep in central then the producer would EQ the music (adds any effects that couldn't get on a pedal board e.g. a bit or echo I know Bowie and Radiohead use that alot.)
Then it would get edited using music software I'm a huge Pro-Tools fan. That would get rid of any noise that shouldn't be their e.g. any footsteps, coughs, ect... (also helps on setting the arrangment of the song) (most songs are recorded in bits or second bursts I know the Pixes use to record in 4 second bursts)
Then that should go to a master producer who is employed by the label who would listen to the album and tell them if it good enough to hit the market or go back and sort it out.

I just don't understand how a band like metallica can let such a poor product go out.... i know bands that have released an album on a budget of 2 grand and it sound better than death Magnetic

New Metallica Album?
Absolute rubbish. A couple of 30 second passages which are ok, but apart from that its awful. Badly written, badly produced, and just overall rubbish.
Yes its a million time better than St Anger.
However its a million times worse than anything else they have done.

Anyone planning on checking out the Hockley Hustle this weekend? £7 for an absolute shed load of music in about 9 different venues all for charity. Seeing as Edinburgh trips a no go for me think ill be venturing out to see the range of stuff on show

right, recently im totally bumming The Gaslight Anthem. cracking band, great sound, good tunes. they remind me a bit of bruce springsteen. they have a very NJ sound, and in almost every song theres a nod to a bruce song. have a listen for yourself... Actually, for once we agree. Very good, but the Springsteen comparisons are a touch obvious!

That is a bit different to the original. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Y150Lm4kZ_MOr Those Were The DaysI find it amazing how they play heavy metal on violin and accordion. Sorry about the language....that would be Finnish.

Why? Its light hearted guitar madness. Dont take themselves too seriously. I also got Flobots album yesterday. I love Sage Francis (what very little I have heard and first time I heard No handlebars I thought it was SF... The albums pretty good By the way... ages ago I cant remember who it was wanted a copy of the Live Bright Eyes album, Motion Sickness.... I cant remember who. I think it was sonic youth. Sorry I never got round to doing it but I am happy to sort you one out now...

WHY Cos he's totally jaff? not sure about that quality voice, quality lyrics, quality set, and people who can actually play instruments all the things that are lacking when you go to see some rap or r&b artist in my view, now they are jaff as you put it. Still be boring if we all liked the same stuff but the people at the arena on monday night would say you are wrong yotes, but i do like your NHL team!

i'd recommend "seasick Steve" his new album "started out with nothing and still got most of it left"
he was on jools holland last week, i bought the album off the back of that, great album, for those who like mississpi blues on acoustic, kind of zz top if they were acoustic and jamming with robert Johnson.
He is also playing rock city tomorrow.
