well, im going to see dj yoda on friday, but i dont think that'll top The Boss. Yoda is awesome. He played at Cardiff Students Union when i was there on a Monday night, which was always free entry. A week later he played one of the big clubs in Cardiff and it was £12!

Did you know the first album you could download legally from the internet wasn't Radiohead's In Rainbows, it was the Smashing Pumpkins with Machina 2 The Friends and Enemies of Modern Music.

right, im delving into my hip hop/breakbeat cd's now after yoda last night, and i've got a recommendation in the form of Soul Position.
Soul Position are made up of Blueprint and RJD2 (who in their own rights have mad skills, but collectively they are amazing) Blueprint rapping and RJ providing the beats. Blueprint doesnt rhyme about the usual 'macking on bitches' and 'drinking 40's' or 'guns and bitches' he rhymes about the true to life things but he also manages to find the ability to be quirky and a little off the wall.
i thoroughly recommend these guys if you like hip hop. check out the following songs...
Unlimited
Mo Buttons
Hand Me Downs (my favourite of theirs)
Right Place, Wrong Time

He did a DJ set. It was quite a while ago now when I saw him (4-5 years ago). So good though. Well entertaining.

Haha. Im gonna have to wait til my band gets off tour before getting tickets. May end up spending too many beer tokens whilst away Also so many gigs coming up in Sheffield that I need to go to so it may be a bit of pick and choose.

got my tickets through yesterday ginger...
i've been listening to kid rocks new album for ages now, its an annoyance that radio stations have picked up his new song 'all summer long' and are likely to kill it (in the same vein as they play nickelback songs to death).
its a little more rock than his last outing which was mostly country, but its still not a patch on his ultimate album 'devil without a cause'.

No mate, as predicted I spent far too much money on tour so had to pick and choose gigs.
Was it in the small room at Corporation? Did you have problems finding the bar selling beer? They had a problem with the license due to underage kids going in and with 14+ gigs, so now they cant have a bar serving booze in the same room as the gig. Luckily they have a massive area and 3 bars downstairs split over 3 rooms.
Went to see Converge last night in the big room there. So good.

So good. yeah it was in the small room, i didnt mind about them not allowing ale in there though because a) gig beer is poo poo and overpriced and b) i was driving. it's the first time i'd been there and i thought the place was pretty cool, though i only saw the drinking and non drinking areas. i'd like to have a night there when im not driving.

Yeah its not a bad night out at all. Its a bit of a dive, but then its a rock club - it should be a bit dirty. It is massive, 3 rooms with DJ's, a back yard area for people to go for a cig, a main bar in a room, slightly seperate from the big room downstairs. Saturday nights and Monday nights are my recommendations. Saturday has 70s, 80s rock and metal in the big room, goth upstairs and modern metal/hardcore in the small room. Mondays has popular rock/metal/alternative in the big room, Hip hop and RnB upstairs (I usually avoid this room!), and a massive eclectic mix in the small room (my house mate and best mate do the DJ'ing, so if you have seen on here the sort of thing Im into, you will get the idea). Pretty cheap as well and a good atmosphere.

Try and revive the music thread. Anyone foresake the joys of Peterborough last night in favour of Backyard Babies at Rock City, like what I did?

I've been planning on posting on this thread for a week or so now. Just got tickets to see Disturbed @ Rock City on the 8th October, support is from Shinedown, so I am well happy. Both bands latest cds are excellent heavy classic rock/metal and right up there on my playlist at the moment. Me and MrsMiner are both looking forward to this show. Another excellent cd at the moment is by Black Tide. They are a young band from Miami who sound like they grew up listening to their parents 80s metal records/cds. They could be a mix of Megadeth and Skid Row (for those who remember them!). All 3 are well worth a listen. For anyone who is into the more melodic side of heavy rock, Rock City on the last weekend of October is the venue for Firefest 5. It is expensive, tickets are £49 for each day. Click the links for the band line ups for Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th. Every artist/band making their only 2008 UK appearance. For me it will be a fantastic weekend. If anyone is interested and concerned about what games they will miss, no game on the Saturday (Bryan Adams at the NIC) Coventry at home in the Challenge Cup on the Sunday.

On a completely different note. I found these while looking for something else. A couple of impressive songs put to very clever videos. The band are Morningwood. They remind me a little of No Doubt MySpace page

They could be a mix of Megadeth and Skid Row (for those who remember them!). i got their cd ages ago. it was ok, sounded like most young bands jumping on the 'it's cool to be 80's' band wagon. they didnt really stand out from the crowd. the music was good, but the guitar solo's really annoyed me. they were too widdly (yes, that is a technical term!). they could have been more simple and sounded better, instead they made them faster and more complex and to me, they just sounded like they were trying too hard. its funny, after having their cd for 9 months to a year, i heard them on the radio for the first time the other day.

mind you, on the other hand, here's a band that do the classic rock thing, and do it well... some of you will remember me pimpin black stone cherry out to you before, well they have released a new album called Folklore and Superstition. its more of the same from the young lads who produce a surprisingly mature sound. they've been labelled as sounding like ACDC and a heavier lynyrd skynard. if southern bluesy balls out rock is your thing, give these lads a go... heres their myspace page (its got some free tunes on it) www.myspace.com/blackstonecherryit's alright, you can thank me later

anyone got the new metallica album?
its good, i like the riffs they are phenomenal in parts for those who like thrash metal, but i can't help and feel they have concentrated to much on this, and forgotten about song structure, there are no stand out songs like 'one' 'enter sandman' 'seek and destroy' 'master of puppets' 'nothing else matters'
but my main beef with it is yet again they have let themselves down with the production side of things, its so badly mixed and engineered, there are pops, distortion and general noises running all through it, the vocals are up and down in the mix, the guitars are too loud to the point that they lose their tone and edge as they have been pushed to the absolute limit on mixing, this then makes the drums get lost at times...
how can a multi million selling band make such errors? surely someone proof listens?
