This isn't going to happen though. The NIC bowed to pressure from skaters groups a few years ago & have promised to keep one rink open for skating & whatever no matter what is occurring on the other rink. Perhaps they should be looking to utilise Bolero Square better this year.

It will need to be 'fresher' this year with other stuff to do and added attractions. If we turn up and it's the same old tired format the I think the league will get blasted, especialy when details of what was on offer from the other tenders gets 'released' - as it no doubt will... That said, it is the better venue for watching hockey, it's just very limited space wise and therfore you are restricted in what else can be done 'on-site'. I do though like my weekend away. They might put a crazy golf course in for players of some of the teams that won't make the finals weekend.

actually i was referring to the decision to stop at home and eat healthier food ;D Alternatively, you find a mate who has booked a hotel room, bribe him with several beers, and crash out on the floor of his hotel room overnight... waking up the following morning (after about 3 hours sleep) still drunk, aching, fully dressed in very rumpled clothing, and half covered in the remains of the chinese takeaway that got left on the floor! ;D Been there, done that, had to repeatedly launder the t-shirt! If you tried to do that in my hotel room shaggy , you would be waking up bald as a badger , and with one eybrow , plus downstairs shaven too plus a lion bar protruding from an oroface then placed in the hotel lift for all to see ;D

Good job for you... my work colleagues could tell you how vindictive I can get... ;D I know now why i dont eat Lion Bars Worry ye not... come to any Lions game, and I promise you that you will see that all of the Lion bars are orifice-free... ;D

Im not even going to visit SteelTalk, its probably gone through meltdown already HL Surprisingly not... first time I've looked on there in ages! One thing did amuse me, from sometime Cagester Doom:- What - as opposed to the council funding that Sheffield was being offered? Touch of the beaujolais nouveau, perhaps? Looks to me like the NIC won it on merit... and possibly fan approval as well (trawling the various forum sites - Belfast, Newcastle, Manchester etc - and the vast majority are happy).

Thank flip for that. I was given 100% certainty from someone, connected to the club - that it was indeed going to be at the Hallam FM. Luckily, I wont lose on on the Hotel booked in Sheffield, & as SuzyQ says, thats leaves more money for beer.

Does that mean you can go or does it clash with Chris' 30th? We'll be back for then. may need to work on the streets to get the extra cash for everything but it'll be worth it. And hopefully if everything goes through I'll be a 5 min walk from the stadium! Oh will that be you or me then? I had planned on renting out all our free space for sleeping in to make extra cash!! (That includes you upshall!! Hehe if you stay on my floor you can buy me lots of drinks in return!!)

The rumours were that Sheffield were offering the Arena for free, no doubt this was being part financed by our Council. My guess is that the EIHL's preference was always Nottingham, especially knowing the strong feeling from supporters who've made it clear that they prefer a City Centre location. However, the EIHL aren't exactly a wealthy organisation and therefore they had to give serious consideration to other bids that were more financially attractive. Nottingham as a City and the NIC as a facility obviously didn't want to lose the event and therefore their offer of £50,000 swung it in Nottinghams direction....Hence my comments. Without a strong bid from Sheffield I guess the NIC would have got the event without the need for some financial incentive from Nottingham Council. Nottingham get to keep the play-offs and our sport is £50,000 better off....I'd say that's a result for most ice hockey watchers. Regards Doom
