Just throwing out a general question, given that Season Tickets have been on sale for several weeks.
Given that the general media are predicting that Covid-19 cases in UK will be around 100k per day in September, it concerns me that fans won't be able to attend due to self-isolation, plus the chances that the players will need to self isolate if infected, or come into contact with infected person.
I'm not one for scaremongering, but it seems the clubs will have season ticket money, or game money, yet may postpone games with short notice. If so, I know who will be out of pocket (see Season Ticket games still outstanding from last season played)

All depends on government strategy regarding testing and isolating once all adults are double jabbed. Numbers are crazy high at the moment because of the amount of testing happening. In theory once everybody is double jabbed testing becomes less relevant.

I'm far less confident than I was a month ago. The deaths are thankfully lower than other waves, but the governments plan of throwing their hands up sand saying let's stop trying while so many millions are waiting on second doses etc... seemed naive in the extreme. I think the risks of fans missing games because of outbreaks is high, especially as you can guarantee some people will not care and attend regardless of being told not too.
As for games being cancelled. A lot will hopefully become clearer when the fixture list is revealed. As long as the compensation games for last year include any league games not covered by this year's season ticket I'll be fine with that. That would also make me confident that any games cancelled this year would be honoured accordingly next year. However I think any cancellation of tickets/games is likely to be all or nothing. I.e huge chunks of the season missed or none at all.

Damned if you do, and Damned if you don’t. let’s hope it all works out. |

If they are mainly in the bracket that haven't had two jabs then this will be treated like flu & a yearly booster will be provided. Test & trace will disappear & we live with it. The other version where we lock down again has consequences for far more important things than Ice Hockey. |

How would people feel if you have to have a vaccine passport (proof of 2 jabs) to attend? Fine by me but I doubt it will come to that. People are going to catch covid, there's no escaping that. It's a highly transmittable virus. It all comes down to the vaccines and how effective they really are. If you are all going to catch it at some point no matter what & the vaccines work to an acceptable level then it will become like seasonal flu. If we get another variant that beats the vaccines then we are screwed for a period of time, but so is potentially the whole planet, so as I said earlier Ice Hockey then really does become very very insignificant. There's no point have a double jabbed pass imo, either the vaccines work & we get on with life again or they/we don't. Edit - Jabs don't mean you are void from catching or transmitting covid, just that you are more protected against the terrible effects of it. You can have covid mild symptoms with jabs & pass it on to someone not jabbed & it could make them very ill & possibly kill them. This is why the results of this unlock on the hospital admission age range are so important. |

That not happening during the entire season is about a million to one I would think. Fans catching COVID in the crowds is a given. If that means a lot of fans turning away completely we will have to see. Ironically this will affect the smaller venues less as they barely get a crowd at all. |

I think this has just happened today Yep, just confirmed in briefing that entry to nightclubs and other crowded indoor events will require Covid passports. I agree that you can still catch Covid if double jabbed, but evidence seems to show that transmission is reduced if double jabbed. |

You wouldn’t have a club to pay on the door for if you took that option, all clubs need guaranteed up front income to set their budgets, airfares,housing, equipment etc etc. Depends on scale. This has already happened somewhat, with Panthers fans being owed 5 games for the upcoming season and it has been made clear and reiterated that they will be replaced with games in this campaign. This is covered partly because the new season tickets only cover 25 games (so not covering 2 home league games or any cup/playoff games) so there are games to give to fans as replacements. The only issue is a worst case scenario where the season gets cancelled with the majority of games unplayed as you have all the upfront overlay without the revenue to cover it. That said, I'm talking very specifically about the Panthers here. Panthers have a lot more margin in their finances than the Dundee's and Manchester's of this league. Some clubs would struggle if only one or two games got cancelled. |

So did the price of this years season ticket drop then if there’s only 25 games on it ?
If not then they’ve either put the price per game up in a crafty way or they’re not giving you all five missing games back.

These passports are a temporary measure to provide reassurance for certain mass events. The requirement for them will dissipate if the hospital admissions stay low enough. |

Let's face it, the majority of Panther's fans do not attend nightclubs, unless they double as libraries. LOL Getting the vaccine is the answer, yes. You will always get a certain number who will refuse so we will never be fully clear of this. The best case scenario is it ends up like flu & we have a yearly booster. However we are ahead of most of the World on this one so the danger of variants is the bigger threat now imo. I actually take back what I said about passports. I'm all for them if the NHS are allowed to demand to see them before the supply of oxygen/treatment for covid to those really suffering. |
