It’s a very good signing IF Kevin Carr does a great job. But if Carr isn’t up to scratch that means Whistle will be in goal too often and he isn’t good enough to win a league title.

So who would be back-up keeper in those games?? I can't see Gospel sitting on the bench for many when he's starter for Leeds. If you read the release they say they are looking at top british prospects to train and dress as well as gospel still being on the roster. So i'd say they will get gospel if Leeds aren't playing or getting one or more of the prospects to back up We wouldn’t need Gospel with Whistle on the bench they’re both Brits. They’re not gonna bring Gospel in if he’s available and leave Whistle sitting in the stands ?

I think what he’s saying is, in certain games, Whistle could be your starter and then you can have Gospel or a young prospect in as back-up. Then, if we sign MORE than 14 imports, as has been hinted, we could play 14 out-skaters and Carr can sit out.

Whilst Carr is still an unknown in the grand scheme of things we now appear to have 2 solid options which will hold us in better stead over the season than an unknown with no EIHL experience & a young Brit goalie we are looking to develop.

Great back-up. Strange career move from JW. Where else could he go? Giants wanted him as a starter but he jumped ship and burned that bridge. Sheffield contract made him VERY expensive, Cardiff have Bowns. He is far too expensive for the Scottish teams and we needed to stop burning an import place sitting on the bench. Very big upgrade on Gospel so it makes a lot of sense.

In all honesty, do you think we will actually win the league??? This team needs to rebuild, so maybe we should play Whistle in 50% of the games and help him develop, this team will need a few seasons to bring on the Brits, so he could be a good part of a long term plan, especially when we have lost Lee and Farmer...

I keep hearing this but why wouldn’t we at least challenge for the league? An arena team, GD has plenty of experience of the league, he knows the Cardiff setup, he has the budget. I’d be pretty disappointed if we finish bottom of the arena teams. I don’t see a reason to under achieve when other teams are rebuilding too.

Not a chance of winning it,unless at least two of the last three forwards are of similar quality to the guy Clan signed yesterday.

in those seasons where we had 2 goalies sharing the net, were the goalies the only reason why we weren’t successful, if not then I don’t think you can come to that conclusion No, I agree with that, however paired with the other league winners having a clear number 1 the evidence suggests thats the way to go. To be clear, Im happy enough Jackson being here and in a few years he could develop into a number 1. I just want to see us stick with one and not flip flop to keep them happy. But that's stretching it a bit. Not having a clear number one is mostly a Panthers thing. Even then the only years that Panthers haven't had a clear number one was the last 2 where Garnett started with it, and then lost it through poor performance/understudy performing better. Every other recent season I can think of, the other goalies have been bought in as injury cover for a clear number one and that player (be it Wiikman or K-wall) has always stayed as clear number one. 1 team for 2 years isn't much of a sample compared to approximately 10 teams for 16 years. Especially when that team performed woefully on the goal scoring front over with Goalies have no impact. A more consistent measure of Panthers failure is that for 5 straight seasons, Panthers have been in the bottom half of teams for goals scored. Only 1 team in EIHL history has won the league and not been in the top 2 highest scoring teams. That was the 08/09 Steelers and they still scored the 4th most in the league. Unless Panthers can score an extra 30-50 goals compared to last year, they could have a tandem of Brodeur and Hasek in their primes and we probably still wouldn't win the league!

Just for anyone contemplating questioning Whistle's motives for joining Panthers he actually made contact with the club himself to advise we has interested/available.

Fair points and as I say, it should work. As long as we stay with the hot goalie and dont change for the sake of change I'll be happy enough. Too often over recent years guys have simply been rested/rotared after a good game previously. More than happy to have Jackson here and really hope it does work.

We don't have the quality of Brits that Sheffield have and we re signed two players who I would have never had back in a Panthers top, so I think we are going to be sitting mid table at best... If Farmer does end up back that might nudge us a little, otherwise I see the next couple of seasons as a rebuild.
