If we want better refs, the league needs to pay for them. The clubs are the league. Our owner controls 2 of 11 clubs. Ergo, we're not getting better refs. I don’t think we can do the two ref system in this league. Clearly nowhere near enough ‘refs’ up to the task. Go back to three officials. Five matches maximum per game night = 5 refs required. At the moment 5 games = 10 refs and at least half of them just aren’t up to it. Nowhere near.

With Panthers abysmal Christmas record over the last god knows how many years,if I was Neil Black I’d be saying to GM.... “Bin that usual schedule,I don’t care who we play next year over Christmas but NOT Steelers and Blaze”.
It’s about time we had a change !

Agree entirely Ted. For the most part the 4 ref system has just over promoted a lot of linesmen and added an extra obstacle on the ice.

I’m seriously fed up of the refereeing in this league, some fans will say it’s irrelevant and that we would have conceded the fifth but it can not be guaranteed, mindsets change, tactics change.
How can the refs allow the play to go on if the net is off the moorings? We had control of the puck in the offensive goal, what were they expecting was going to happen, we’d wait until it was back on fully?
Also, was the blaze fifth goal onside? Couldn’t tell from the away end but it looked close to being offside.
What do we do to deserve this every season?😂

This is the 3rd game running where we've been done by dodgy decisions.. how long is this going to carry on for? Until Panthers learn to stop conceding 5?

This is one of the instances why we should say stuff it,let’s sign a team where we’ve got so much quality even the awful refs decisions will be irrelevant.

That would mean digging into all the Building Society cash that Moran was raving about last season.. I mean this sponsorship was supposed to be massive, can we say our team looks upgraded on last year? Where has all that cash along with the extra revenue from season ticket holders gone? If it’s in the team then questions need to be asked...

We’ve just stood still since the year 2012/13. Our record in the last 10 games....2 wins and 8 losses and the only teams we beat were MK and Dundee. That’s shocking, truly truly shocking !!!!

A lot of fans have been complaining about refereeing and blaming them for us losing but the simple fact is, if refs are having an impact on the game it’s only because we are letting them. If we actually played well against these teams for a full 60 minutes then it wouldn’t matter how good or bad the refs are because we’d still walk away with the 2 points.

Well, with the continued parlous state of the Panthers, lousy officiating and a league run as an old boys club maybe it is really time to throw in the towel?

I’m annoyed at how that game panned out tonight but the skydome is a tough place to play. That Blaze team are suited to it, Cardiff lost there on Boxing Day so it’s not easy to take points out of there. Trying to look on the bright side we’ve taken 3 points out of 6 possible there, IF we can maintain our 100% home record against them then 9/12 would be respectable.
Taking the positives from tonight I thought Rheault had a good game and it’s clear he and Pither have chemistry, hopefully Henderson will go on that line when he’s back as Lacho offers nothing.
We were 100% on 7 infractions, Bolduc and Betteridge work well together on the PK, hopefully Rich keeps them together on it.
We need to improve our team defence, it’s costing us massively. We’re seeing defensive errors from both forwards and defenders. Rich is tinkering with the forward lines and defence pairings, hopefully when everyone is fit we see the best combinations and see some chemistry and solidity develop. Fingers crossed.

Funny thing is Rich doesn’t normally recruit this type of team, but chose a team he doesn’t normally coach to get through the month of December, due to the gruelling schedule, plan kinda backfired..... Apparently Clan were robbed in Belfast by some shocking calls, with no real independent body reviewing these referees nothing, absolutely nothing will change. We just have to suck it up and accept that the teams who the refs favour will always have a little head start.. The referees don’t actually favour teams. It’s just incompetence.

Coventry neutralised our lumbering defence with some great long passes and even though they were exhausted in the third we still couldn’t hold onto the game. For once the forwards were doing their job but defensively we were very poor and no matter what straws can be clutched at with regards records at arenas/points whatever that was a game thrown away to a team with a plan that worked.

The net was off its moorings well before the shot - difficult not to disallow. Much better 2nd and 3rd - we well on top at the end. Munson after a bit of a shaky start played well - one fantastic glove save. 1st period we just stood off them. Lacho again was peripheral. We certainly deserved to take it into overtime. I thought the ref was poor. Yes but Kopriva blatantly pushed the net off on purpose with his arm,so at the very worst he should have got delay of game and Panthers a PP. With the Blaze net off if the puck had broke up the other end and Blaze scored a goal that would have been allowed,so you had a situation there with a live puck where only one team was able to score. I didn’t think the refs did Panthers any favours at all tonight,in fact I’d even say they were obviously biased. If i was Cherno I’d be taking a fine tonight ! I agree with the penalty call, but the puck was at the time almost behind him - hardly in a goal scoring position, so why the net minder did that was stupid. The refs were poor - one penalty on Lepine was ridiculous - an obvious tripping missed, then a couple of penalties in Blaze favour perhaps should have bene called. It seems as long as we have the current ownership little will change. As people have pointed out almost a half of the profits go towards Sportscape - a 3 way split . It seems everyone wants their slice of the pie and its split too many ways. I also agree that since the treble we have stood still while others have moved forward every year. Corey said at the time it was an opportunity to create a dynasty which with the turn over of players is impossible to do.

In a shocking turn of events a lot of fans seem to have black & gold tinted specs on when it comes to the calls against us. In reality the only ‘bad’ call I saw was the one on Olsen.
Lepine made it all too easy for the refs to make the calls on him, hurtubise made a blatant 2 handed swing in front of the ref and let’s not forget we got the rub of the green ourselves especially against rissling when he got away with a clear high elbow.
As for the disallowed goal for me it isn’t the fact that it was waived off that is the real issue it was the fact the ref decided to let the play continue, if you do that then you must let the play stand, if you’re not happy the net is off then call the play dead. I will happily concede that this was a poor moment for the refs.
In general in recent times we are the creators of our own downfall with indiscipline, poor decision making and not reading the game in respect to the officials.

Our defence was shocking yes, absolutely wide open down the middle and our Dmen just can’t cope with speed, they’re slow and lumbering. But Coventry is just the sort of smaller rink that should suit them,it’s often said Manchester and Cardiff have “built a team to suit their smaller ice” where there’s less space and their big guys can hit. It doesn’t seem to matter if the ice is big or small though for our D because nothing seems to suit them. The one who disappoints me most in the hitting and physical department is Olsen, with the size of him he should be plastering forwards into the boards but he just doesn’t do it and he’s not been anywhere near a scrap either. I think Rich misread this league and got his recruiting wrong with all the big guys.
