It might sting a bit but we were just beaten by a better team who were better coached and had much better team spirit and desire to win. From the head office to the fans, it’s in their DNA and much much different to just about everything at Nottingham. I have to disagree, I didn’t think that they were better than us last night. I didn’t watch that game last night thinking wow how are we keeping up with them. Defensive errors and failure to convert our chances cost us the game. We crumble under pressure when we have a lead, we are leaderless and make stupid decisions and mistakes. They aren’t a better team than us though and the league positions back that up. The team spirit and desire I can agree with but that again stems from leadership. We have virtually zero leadership. We pretty much matched each other in the first and second but in the third they shifted up a gear and we couldn’t match them. To compound that we were totally ineffective pulling Garnet then with a few minutes to go we handed the game over to them on penalties. Yes they were head and shoulders above us at that point. Leadership, team spirit and the desire to win killed us. Sheffield DNA = Winning is everything. Nottingham DNA = Hate the Steelers. That’s part of the cancer at the core of the Panthers.

Each major decision in any sport changes the course of the game.. just because Steelers have been a strong 3rd period team against us doesn't mean that trend will automatically resume. Anyone who doesn't think that was a huge turning point needs to give their heads a wobble. I watched around the ice and their body language changed dramatically and their look of disbelief at the cockney who washed out the goal. It's makes it worse when they don't even get mic'ed up to explain why it was washed out I couldn't disagree more. Our reaction to being conned out of a goal was fantastic, I was proud of the team for the way the bounced back to get the go ahead goal. Its what happened after that is what was the biggest disgrace of the night. If some fans want to hide this team behind one poor refereeing decision then fair enough but I can tell you now that that won't change the fact that this is a 3rd/4th place team(at best) come the end of the season and one poor Darnell moment won't change that, look at the bigger problems. If that's fine for you then enjoy the rest of your season, many will. "We get the club we deserve" Rob Scott No fans are hiding behind them anywhere they know where we are at and what is happening. There's very little to nothing the fans can do. You say don't turn up but let me know when Panthers are AVERAGING 3,500/4,000 a night which would be just over half full. The Panthers/Black market the team as city centre entertainment more than a sports franchise. The only way things will change is if he sells up and a new owner comes in with different intentions but while there's money to be made it won't get sold.

There's nothing in that roster which frightens the life out of me. A bit of composure in the 3rd period would have seen them off last night but its all under the bridge now eh

Take the emotion out of it and you will see that this years team is way more stacked than the 2012/2013 team. Certainly on paper(I am very aware hockey isn't played on paper, simply refering to the point when the players were signed). On paper this team should wipe the floor with that team based on CVs. I would imagine that if you look at the imports for both those teams that on average this years roster is significantly more expensive even if you consider both in todays money. If players with the CVs of most of that team were signed to start this season this forum would be up in arms. Now part of that comes from the fact that the league as a whole is bringing in better quality and the league this year is much tougher with more competitive teams. I am currently as frustrated as most, to the point where i'm seriously considering my ST next year. I do see that we could spend even more if we chose to. The thing for me is, I dont think it'd make much difference. I have said on a number of occasions that we simply cant sign so many bad players season after season. What is it that causes so many quality players to go off the boil in Nottingham after a few months. I feel almost certain that if 80% of those players had signed in Sheffield or Cardiff we would be looking on in admiration throughout the entire season, not just September. Something causes it, what im not sure, but it certainly has something to do with this clubs rotten core. We have a new coach and little changes(Corey had become part of the problem too in my view). The fact he is forced to keep Rick and Green is one of the biggest indicators of what is wrong. Jobs for the boys at the cost of doing whats best to help the team win. I'm not questioning how nice a person anybody is, or even how good they are at their jobs, because actually I dont know that. The club did need sweeping changes though and those 2 will have been kept on because of who they are and not because of how good they are at their jobs. This is it. People who just say throw money at it are using that as a cop out. We've had the best squad on paper loads of times. There's an attitude and culture problem. And i believe its from the GM down. Personally i dont care about Neil Black, hes a light tough owner who gives us plenty of resources imo The only time we had league success was when we had players with a great attitude inspite of the club. Something is very wrong at this club.

Back to your first point, why can't we find players with the right attitude then?

Back to your first point, why can't we find players with the right attitude then? I'd say the players attitudes when they arrive are fine. That's why we generally start the season very well. It's once GM, Nottingham city centre, our adoring fans base, excessive sponsor events/pub quizzes and chushy lifestyle gets hold of the players that things suddenly change. The quality of the roster is more than adequate to actually challenge for the title. Its the ethos of the club that rubs off on players who arrive here and why we constantly fall way short.

Well I really shouldn't need to for a man of your clear intelligence but here goes. The original goal stands, as it should have, then we are 3-2 up & Sheffield up a gear just like when we actually wen't 3-2 up. It's just like in any sport, the next goal changes the complexion of the game. You can't say Panthers would have gone 4-2 up, the same as I can't say they wouldn't but the pattern of the game, the spinelessness of Panthers & the durability/belief of Steelers leads me to believe the 4th wouldn't have occurred. One thing we can absolutley agree on Jord, there's one thing for sure with Steelers, and whether it's culture or habit, or whatever it is, but it's been the case for years. When the Steelers are playing well... (and sometimes when they're not) They're never more dangerous than when they've just been scored on. They play a 60 minute game, every game.

About the same as Garnett, who is third in the EIHL standings in SP, even after a 5 goal shelling last night. A long way from "crap", IMHO.

Change Panthers from a social club to a sports club would be a start Let me know when that happens lol It won’t happen under the current regime and to be fair that’s what the ever growing panty throwing element of the fan base want. There are far better things to do on a Saturday night if you are a Panthers sports fan and a lot of those of a similar mind are voting with thier feet and leaving unfortunately

You can quote me yes. Because in my Panthers team Guptill would still be a 3rd liner, because we would have six forwards better than him. You're a scream, you should be on telly. Black should just get his wallet out and sign this motley collection of hasbeens and never-wases. www.eliteprospects.com/team/75/tampa-bay-lightningJust buy them all out. Ok let’s compare two players in their ECHL stats seeing as they’ve both been mentioned today and I was told one didn’t have much of a CV but it seems the other is great. Alex Guptill 0.69 points per game Eric Werner 0.64 points per game Guess which one is a forward and which one was a Dman ? Guptill is talented with the puck and yes he had one good ECHL season, but sorry i don’t see anything in his resume that says he should be top line on a Panthers team, second line at a real push, but in my opinion we should have a team with a stacked top two lines, pushing Guptill down onto the third.

He’s currently the top goal scorer in the league above every other teams first line goal scorers so could it be argued that he’s been a brilliant signing? I agree the top two lines should be stacked and we should have multiple players who are on similar goals to Guptill. Hurtubise and Pither were signed to do this and they’ve underperformed, Rheault has been injured. We’ve got the talent.

Man, that's some cherry picker you have there, Iggy. Past stats mean very little, as we all know. Plenty of players who should've been ace, but weren't, and vice-versa. Evan Mosey and Greg Jacina, for example.
You're saying that you basically don't rate the league's top goalscorer? Fair enough.

If a 3rd liner is the leagues top scorer it doesn't say much for the other 'top liners' on other teams eh

Hurtubise (along with a few others) is a complete waste of space and the rocket scientist coach even benched Guptill a while back too. Take Guptill and Garnet away and we would be lower in the league than Sheffield now.

I’m not saying i don’t rate Guptill,he’s ok and he’s scoring goals yes, there seem to be plenty of other issues with him though. Bruce Graham scored goals but you wouldn’t really see him or sign him as a top line player. All I’m saying is in putting a Panthers team together back in the off season we should be looking at filling our top two lines with better players than Alex Guptill. Panthers as a club seem to have massive issues that other teams don’t seem to have and those issues cost us on the ice every year. Whether it’s the culture,GM or Black, the city centre location, the arena, the cushy easy ride, fans, puck bunnies etc etc there is obviously a big problem so what’s the answer ? To me there are only two options, you either change the culture which isn’t going to happen with this regime,or you spend some extra money and sign a team that contains enough quality over and above the EIHL norm to neutralise and overcome those other Panthers problems. I’m not advocating going out and doubling our player spend or anything stupid, but you’ve got to have those 4 or 5 top end players that make the difference. Cardiff have got them and Belfast have got them and the league table isn’t lying. Trouble is we probably need 6 or 7 of them !

His first goal was that quick it was in and out of climies net before he knew what was happening I think you could say that with the majority of players who we sign who are drafted reasonably highly. I’m always suspicious when we sign somone drafted in rounds 1-3 because in most cases they’ve stopped putting in the work that their counterparts did, who are now in the NHL or a higher league. Zack Phillips being a prime example, and Tyler Biggs this year. He’s got amazing hands, and a great release/finish on him...but does he really care?
