So it starts tonight with Devils vs Red Bull Salzburg.
I’ll be honest I have no idea how leagues compare I can’t keep up so how do people more ITK predict this one will go? I know it’s not Panthers related but worth keeping an eye on imo.
Oh it’s also on Freesport right now (virgin media: 553)

Please tell me we aren’t doing that faceoff “rule” in the league? That’s an awful rule.

Salzburg will be favourites, a lot of Red Bull money behind them (Salzburg being where the company is based), and have some very good players on their roster.
Devils should fancy an upset though as the gap between us and the Austrian league has been shortening... until the UK produce consistent NHL quality players, they’ll always be seen as a better league though.
*just writing this and Salzburg have score 2! At least I’ve not put money on a Devils result!

Anybody think Bowns could have done better with the 2nd and 3rd?

You've just got look at the quality and cv's of Salzburgs imports to see the gulf between the two

Anybody think Browns could have done better with the 2nd and 3rd? Yep not much he could do with the 1st goal but he was poor with the 2nd and 3rd. I’m not impressed at all so far with the Devils.

Looked a lot better the last 5-10 minutes. Probably too little too late but at least there making a game of it now. Cardiff got off to a slow start last year too if i remember correctly

Forgive my ignorance if I've missed something here, but I've not heard anything about Matthew Myers. What's the story?

Chris VandeVelde. 278 NHL games and was in the show only two seasons ago. Played in Finnish Liiga last year John Hughes. PPG of 1.24 in EBEL over 9 seasons Brant Harris. Came to Salzburg off the back of 83 points in 67 games in ECHL Dustin Gazley. 0.45 PPG in AHL Brett Regner. High scoring defenceman in AHL and captained teams for 3 seasons These guys are way above EIHL level

Much better second period from Cardiff - although they are going to rue all of those only-just-missed chances. Incredible save from Bowns... dumb mistake from Herzog leading to Cardiff's second goal.

Often a conversation I have with my good lady. She somehow cant see the difference. I find SD almost unwatchable. I was looking for the HD channel earlier having heard they planned to launch it earlier in the summer. From what I could work out from a load of technical mumbo jumbo on some forum is that they are struggling to broadcast the signal and have it be stable. Perhaps the cost of getting it right is too much. Perhaps even that they've put it on the back burner for now. Really hope not with them taking on the EIHL this year. There must be fans of other sports not to happy either. Hockey probably the hardest of the sports to watch in SD too.

The first period killed us!!
A few soft goals from bowns and a few unlucky bounces for the devils it could have been a little different.
There finishing and high energy game is hard to keep up with but we don’t expect win so it’s not to bad..

But if somebody said Linglet,Dixon,Hedden and Blood were coming to the EIHL most of us would probably have thought nah. But they did and their big CV’s are all in Cardiff !

A poor first period for Cardiff cost them... that and going up against a hot netminder. If the Devils had played the whole game as they did in the second period, they'd have won that one. Some immense pressure there, a lot of good work. Ulmer & Hedden may have been the goalscorers, but Cardiff have a lot to thank Joey Haddad for... the offensive pressure just from him was incredible.
The scoreline does not IMO reflect the game as a whole. That's got to give the Devils some confidence for the rest of the group games.
BTW - who was it who dished out that monster check just before the two-on-one and Bowns' amazing propeller-kick save? That was a thing of beauty (the check... well, and the save!).

It was Fournier who laid the hit. Very good hit indeed
