I have to agree with Shaggy - Joey Haddad’s puck retention and vision in the Offensive zone was a masterclass. Fournier loooked good going forward.
If I’m Andrew Lord, I’d be frustrated at the discipline. Most of these have played in the CHL before. Most of their new guys have played in Europe as well but they were taking slashing and hooking penalties. You know in Euro hockey you have to keep your stick on the ice

Think you’d best check Linglet and Dixon’s CV’s mate. Ignore the Cvs I watched the game! Just a different game to everyone else.

Really?? 43 shots to 20 in devils favour and you think that the score flattened us?? Do you realise the opposition we are facing in the chl?? Like to see you say that after the devils v panthers first league game

I'd also say that was the devils easier looking fixture on their schedule as well. Yes but out of those 40 odd shots. How many were too quality efforts

From what I saw of the devil's I thought they were fantastic , dominated Salzburg for a huge amount of time. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see them lifting the trophy come March.

I thought 2-5 seriously flattered Salzburg.

Cardiff had enough gilt edge chances to get back in the game and were not clinical enough and at CHL level you have to be.
Wasn’t impressed by Bowns for the goals conceded. And that one high kick save in itself was good but meant nothing when he shipped much simpler chances.
If Cardiff continue to play like last night they don’t stand any chance of getting out of the group stage

It’s easy to play offensively when you’re 4-0 down though.

Bowns was borderline tragic. I hope he's improved 200% by next May!

At CHL level goalies make a huge difference. I'd argue that Bowns, whilst occasionly spectacular, isn't consistent enough for that level.

I only saw the final period 'live' but saw the highlights of the 2nd, and followed the first on the CHL website. The difference between the two sides was Salzburg having just a couple more players being able to do something special. Once Cardiff were 4-0 down they played more desperate, got a PP, then Salzburg gave up a goal they'll want back. Cardiff def played well in final but lacked a cutting edge. Dixon got mentioned loads of times by Murph, and at EIHL level he should have more of an impact. Cardiff couldn't have got a harder group, that's for sure. Berne wining in Vaxjo !!

I'm guessing that wasn't what The Devils envisioned for this game. They got into the game when they attacked and not go on the defensive.
Mind you, I have noticed that Elite League teams do go all defensive for CHL games instead of just going out and attack at the start of games.
Panthers used that tactic and it seemed to work against Turku but it was when we attacked that we got the results against Mountfield and Bern.
Cardiff have got to just go for it against Bern. They didn't like it, when The Panthers did it.
I wonder how many mentions The Panthers will get tomorrow night during the game.

Spot on the 1st period we were not clever, but once we got into our stride we played very well, it was never ever a 5-2 game, 5-4 would have been more realistic. However it was a truly great night, bags of atmosphere, a team that left it all out there on the ice, and a team that in 2/3 weeks time will be a very hard team to beat. My gut feeling is that this years league trophy will be contested between Devils/Panthers/ Giants, with Us guys and you guys being favourites. Pidge will obviously and rightly go for you guys, and I will go for us guys. Anyway enjoy the season everyone, hockey is back, and it sure feels good. Happy Hockey Days.

Overtime win Bern. Devils will win all trophies in that form! As we found out last season... good against (better) European teams is one thing, good against domestic opposition is quite another. Fair play to Cardiff for pushing both of their CHL opponents so far, but it wouldn't be wise to make too much of it...

Of course, but I think recent performances cements their position as favourites for me.

Good effort from the look of things, hard lines losing in OT.
Can only be a positive for our teams to do well in Europe, more chance of getting a second berth if we get strong showings.

The way the CHL rankings work Cardiff need to win games in order to improve the EIHL ranking, and it needs to be consistent for years. Last years EIHL performance was only good enough for 8th (Cardiff dragged us down) and as things currently stand the EIHL is below Norway and Denmark on this years performance. It would take several years of qualifying or pushing for qualification to markedly improve our ranking.
