Just hope that they have a decent build up to each game instead of going on air 5 minutes before Face Off

Does anyone know if there's anyway to access freesports tv from abroad? I'm currently living in Canada and will continue to do so for the rest of the season. Yes. Have to register but it's free. tvplayer.com/watch/freesports

Do you not like his pitter patter commentary where he picks all the clichés off the top shelf where the good whiskey is kept? In a word, no. It's difficult for me to say this given how much I despise the homophobic, racist and mysognistic nasty little bigot, but if he wasn't such a enormous bell-end Simms would be a good shoe-in for a job like this. Unfortunately he is a homophobic, racist and mysognistic nasty little bigot and enormous bell-end to boot, so that rules him out in my ever-so-humble opinion. Come on- stop pussy footing around, get off the fence and say it as it is.

I thought perhaps that it might affect attendance if people knew the sf were televised. Although it didnt seem to affect this years, but was the tv coverage announced after the tickets went on sale? What filled the arena this year was yet another semi with panthers and steelers.... again...

Unfortunately I doubt it'll take long for those new to ice hockey to become weary of Aaron Murphy's monotonous and cliché-ridden commentary. This. Sure this is a North American sport but we do it differently in this country to the North Americans. The league title is the main prize for starters. Some don’t like that but I do. Why do we have to have a commentator who sounds exactly like the stereotypes many British people would associate with US/Canadian broadcasters. Does any remember the Boston TV sketches that Soccer AM used to do to Boston United highlights? It’s shocking how close they sounded to Aaron Murphy and for those tuning in to Ice Hockey for the first time encountering Aaron Murphy. The first impression will be mostly cringe and embarrassment before a puck has even been dropped. As much as I dislike AM’s commentating style I think he comes across as a thoroughly nice bloke so I feel a bit mean saying the above but he really isn’t the man for the job in my opinion. Some will say he’s the only option out there other than Simms but what about all those webcast commentators across the country who do a fantastic job week in week out who’d jump at the chance. What about Chris Ellis, a brilliant broadcaster who I think would be a great commentator on TV. If I recommend to any non-hockey supporting friends to give hockey a watch on 27/12 I guarantee that each one would bring up the commentator if it is Aaron Murphy when that shouldn’t be the case. Hockey is a good enough sport to let the action do most of the talking. Less of the “pitter patter” Aaron.

Seth Bennett would be the man for me, can't put my finger on why, but I just like his commentary style

Agreed. Seth Bennett is by far the best, followed by Johnathan Fearnley from Steelers. After that I’d go Chris Ellis,Owen Bradley, the Cardiff webcast boys and then the Coventry guys. At least we haven’t got any women commentators thank goodness....that would mean instant switch off I’m afraid !

Like you say, it's not easy to say because he does appear a nice guy and clearly genuinely loves the sport too. Although I dont think somebody with an American style would be all that bad. Unfortunatly Aaron is just way over the top. I'd be happy enough for him to host the shows with a seperate commentary team but that just wont happen. They'll stick to what we've seen over recent years. The 2 guys doing both punditry and commentary duties.

In regards to a female commentator it’d actually be a great opportunity for the league to become a bit of a trend setter and earn some priceless positive PR for the league by having the voice of our sport in this country to be a female voice. There are female commentators in other sports but any who lead the way in their particular sport? I’m very open to that idea should the right individual come along in the next few years. It’s a conversation that’ll open up a can of worms to some backward views but times are most definitely changing. It’d be great if for once our sport could lead the way rather than Simmsey dragging us 20 years behind.

I haven’t got any problem whatsoever with women in hockey, women in sport or women in general, but women commentators in men’s sport just don’t work for me. They tried it in football and it didn’t work and as for the ones in the cricket these days, apart from about one, well they are just abysmal.

Agree Seth Bennett and Jonathan Fernley (sp) are the best out there. Pretty impartial too. Anyone but Murphy .

I always think Seth is choking and need to give him a glass of water. Best combination for me is Aled & John - clear, fun, impartial and factual. And now they’ve gone....

Why have they gone? (Or should that be where?)
I quite like the two chaps who do Coventry's, almost seem biased in the away team's direction at times.
Murphy would be ok if he cut down the schtick a bit.

At least we haven’t got any women commentators thank goodness....that would mean instant switch off I’m afraid ! Whilst your opinion is quite frankly outdated and pretty much on par with Simms, it is your opinion and I respect that it is your right. But nobody suggested anything about female commentators. You just randomly decided to disrespect half the population because what? The 1 or 2 you've heard don't tickle your fancy? Why didn't you name them like you have with Seth, Aaron etc rather than "At least we haven’t got any women"? Sexism alive and kicking on the Cage in 2018 I see...

Murphy would be ok if he cut down the schtick a bit. Coventry commentators are great (there was an old chap that did it a couple of years ago but he’s now gone - the new chap is much better) but the quality of their picture lets them down - for some reason it’s just too dark Icetimetv have pushed them out in favour of the young chap who did the NIHL for them - I’ve not listened to him before but he must be awesome for them to have removed Aled and John. However going on the highlights from the game against Panthers on Sunday I may be saving some money this year.

If you don't like Murphy's little anecdotes turn off the sound, personally I quite like his "stick handling in a phone booth".

I haven’t disrespected half the population, just given my opinion on female commentators. If you commented on here that a male wasn’t very good at something I wouldn’t accuse you of disrespecting the other half of the population. Since you ask i will name a few....Jacquie Oatley,Vicki Sparks,Mel Jones,Alison Mitchell,Ebony Rainford Brent and that’s just some in football and cricket. Have you ever listened to Wimbledon when Tracey Austin is on,oh boy she’s awful. Oh and that blonde NHL presenter woman who shouts at you,the clone of the previous one who also shouted at you !😫

One female host who used to work hockey on Sky in the ISL days, Jane Hoffen. She was very good as a presenter .
