So we have players who can check, clear the crease, difficult to move off the puck and look to be quick. I’m looking forward to seeing this team play. I might even enjoy watching hockey in Nottingham again. If we win the league, great, if we don’t and I have fun watching a team play with out fear and enjoy themselves, that will do me for a first year with a new coach. Realistically i just want a solid season where we compete every game. But do have some players that will do some damage.

Love the signing video
Lots of people saying the last signing needs to be a star forward
Is it likely they've deliberately saved the best signing til last ?

I think it's Likely we are saving the best for last. One thing is for sure, who is going to be stupid enough to try anything with this panthers side? Team looks huge the majority like to hit and fight. Very tough team to play against perhaps we are looking for a grinding style, force the turnovers. Blue collar hockey style maybe?

The more I think about our roster the more worried I get that the new coach has totally misjudged the league. Obviously hope I’m wrong and that we win the league. can you only play one style of hockey in the EIHL then?

I’m looking forward to seeing this team play. The make up of the squad on the face of it looks like something we’ve not seen before and even if it doesn’t work out I’m glad the panthers are pushing the boat out and trying something new

The roster just looks very one dimensional to me. Is that ok?

Nieckar, Wood, Allison, Charron, Clark (Jason) to name but a few.... We had the league's most penalised player that year... One Dody Wood... History could be about to repeat...

Looks a good player but as others have said, too much of the same once again. I think this team is going to be fun to watch but ultimately can't see them scoring enough to challenge for the title. Can't see who would fit into a decent powerplay. Plenty of penalty killers. Looking forward to the season purely for the entertainment these should bring .

Being big doesn’t automatically mean you sit in the box. We might be massive and have a few handy fighters but we don’t look anything like a goon squad

Pitcher should score a few, mind you, he should stick out (Height wise) when they line up Centre Ice.
It does appear that we will have a squad equipped to do well on opposing Ice such as Coventry and Cardiff...etc.

Does this point to Olsen being our offensive player if you will? As has already been mentioned he’s had similar points to Sauve in similar leagues and offensively I thought Yann was good, if Olsen can match him but be solid defensively then I think he will be a force.

To be honest panthers fans I love the way your shaping us this season.
A few young and hungry forwards who can scare the opposition to bits. You then got luke pithers who gets points for fun. I don't see why all the doom and gloom before the Puck is dropped.
I mean the last few years you have had the best players in the eihl but haven't succeeded like you should have.
Going down this route may well work for you.
Let's hope they don't take silly penalties and Your last player is a superstar and u should be OK.

We certainly have a physical team akin to that of 2002/03.. My point was this this team resembles that team in its physicality And if my memory serves me correctly Dody Wood was 5 ft 11 or there abouts... So he wasn't exactly tall..

This team may not be flashy but I tell you what, everyone that walks into our place will know they’ve had a game.
We’ve had flair players maybe it’s time we went blue collar. Gritty. Hard to beat. That’s what our identity should be. In the last 10 years, we’ve had great success under Corey but ultimately it often came down to when the players fancied it. How many times did we lose those games where we needed to scrape a win or where we weren’t clicking and we needed to work hard?
What we did was put extra minutes on the top line to force the issue. With this team, I feel what will happen is that when it gets tough, they’ll strap their boots up and work harder. Throw the body a bit. Look for something different. Get in some faces.
Look at the effect of a Cam Janssen. When we were poor, he’d go out there and throw the biggest check he could. Or skate like a mad man to get the crowd pumped. He was blue collar. We’ve still got that sprinkle of flair but ultimately this team should be hard to beat.
It may fail but at least we’re tryinn soemthing new

The continental cup winning team of a couple of years ago was one of our worst in recent years.. alongside the team we had the first time we were in the CHL. So I disagree that we have had the best players in recent years... Far from it. Your team's of recent years have had far better players than us as have other teams. I am looking forward to seeing this team play... But like others I think we may be short of goals. But then if we are strong defensively it may not matter so much. I think you are favourites once again. Though you do have an ageing forward line. And that's not worked for Belfast in the past.

The difference between this side and that of 2002/3 was we have tough guys who can will drop the gloves when required.. the team back then had 2 heavyweight enforcers and a few more who wanted to fight Every game! Huge difference. Let's see Cardiff push us around on their rink this year .
As long as we are mobile at home then I'm happy. We sure look entertaining which is something we haven't been in years!

My primary point is that both teams were/are physical rather than any tough guys on either team. But otherwise I totally agree with what you said....

I think regardless of who we sign for that place we will be short of goals, unless we have two forwards incoming who are studs and we are planning to carry a spare. The article on the website states we have 1 signing left to complete the roster. I read that to say we wont be starting with a spare. we may potentially only have 1 more signing but that article will have most likely been written by Callum and he has stated in the past that he only finds out who we’ve signed when it’s ready to be announced, so he may be saying that from a numbers perspective rather than knowing what Chernomaz’s plan is

The hockey Corey had us playing was not working. Maybe this new style is what we need. Even if we don't win everything its his first season and the physical hockey is certainly going to be intresting to watch! That in itself would be a upgrade on seasons past! No team is going to be able to bully us and teams will not want to play us. That many players who like to hit, players aren't going to be able to play as well as they normally do looking over both shoulders.

I'm worried how one-dimensional and short of goals we are.
Don't understand the comparisons with 2002/3 either. We had a few players who could fight that year, but they also had decent scoring stats.
Nieckar was the main one you'd consider a "goon", and he still got 0.61 PPG in ECHL, which is pretty good for an EIHL forward - better than Perlini for example. Same with Clarke - 0.61 overall in the ECHL and a point per game season in the ECHL a couple of years before we signed him.
And Allison was tough, but primarily a goalscorer - signed for us after a point a game season for Steelers. Dody Wood signed from Ayr after 31 points in 42 games and 0.5 PPG in the AHL etc etc.
And that was the "goons".
That team also had Jinman, Cadotte, Purves and Hadden in the forwards.

But unfortunately Wood didn't turn up all season, Allison was stuck on the third line with him and Nieckar so was never going to put up big numbers. Jinman, from memory anyway, struggled against Sheffield all season. Also our netminding was really poor in the big games, Pietila chucking one in against Sheffield in the Challenge Cup final was an awful moment. It's fun to speculate, but you just don't know until they hit the ice, someone mentioned Craighead earlier, he had played in good leagues but was never a goalscorer but was prolific for Panthers. Equally Josh Shalla looked like the next Sean McAslan but it just didn't happen for him.

SEVCIK. I personally don't know why people are mentioning the age of our forwards. Apart from ulmer and bentivolgio the rest are young. OK hedden is 33 I think but that's not that old.
PIDGE. If you honestly think last years devil's team only beat you because we bullied you then that's a harsh comment. We had faryna who was willing to fight and hit and that was it. Louis and batch were always benched or injured and the rest couldn't bully themselves lol.
You had gagnon who was the toughest player in the league and I'm sure he wouldn't let your team get bullied if he thought that was happening.
We have a team who gel together pretty quick and no how other line mates play.
Hoping for the same this season to.
