I quite like this signing, mainly because it's a very un-Panthers-like signing. Firstly, it's been a while since we signed a proper power forward, and, secondly, we never sign from other EIHL clubs Interesting signing and one I wasn't expecting at all. Was thinking exactly the same, I can’t t ever remember in the Nielsen era signing a player from another club, we always brought new players in. All I remember about this guy is him getting into fights. It is an odd Panthers signing as presumably Rich never saw Doty play last season. This has to be a Chernomaz/John Tripp DEL connection.

I seem to remember that the only reason we managed to sign benny off the giants was because the giants wanted to put him on pay per play contract as he had been injured a lot the season before. I could be wrong though.

If you just look at this guy and his stats from last season in isolation, I can see why some people are thinking that this is a bit of a 'meh' signing. But this is a team game, and I get the feeling that Doty could be a useful cog in the machine. Maybe not a star player (although who knows what could happen?) but you can't expect the whole roster to be stars, can you? Can skate? - check Can score? - check (16 goals on lines which probably didn't help him, on a team which was pretty poor...) Can hit? - check (no pun intended ) Can fight? - check (yes, he lost to Gagnon... so?) We can't rule out Gagnon coming back (and I'm in two minds as to whether that would be a good thing or not) but this signing reduces the chances IMO... it adds another player who has physicality (be it punching or checking) on his CV to the list. If this is a straight swap for Bussieres (total conjecture) then it's a major upgrade. If not... you've got to think he's going to be moderately useful at the very least. Completely agree, I also question whether there is a need for Gagnon especially when you look at the type of players Chernomaz has already brought in

I could be wrong though. Apparently he had been "on the radar" for a couple of years, but he was with his wife to be - then agreed to go to Panthers.

I can’t see how anyone can think this is a bad signing?! He outscored Lindhagen and Bussieres last season on a poor Clan team. Damning with faint praise a bit there Pies Not entirely convinced with this one, don't remember from our games with the Clan last year that Doty looked anything covet-worthy (if that was a word), but I'll trust Cherno.

Positives Good goal and assist rate Good points on a poor braehead team Can hit and seems to enjoy it! Happy to drop the gloves If a power forward not a out and out enforcer massive upgrade on bussieres. If he is the main enforcer it's better to play one forward down than one d man. Likley to be third line Another intimidating character.
Negative Not in gagz league for fighting. Not sure how he will do against the big enforcers. Pretty slow skater Goals and assists are from a team that played the caps a lot.
Overall let's be honest. As a third line power forward he is an excellent signing. As a straight like for like swap for gagz it's not great but it's less Likley to bite us in the ass when he goes to sit in the box!

Exactly .. I believe they play in the eihl lol Corey shipped out Meyers and brought in Weaver. Him and Benedict are the only two note worth EIHL pick ups

Goals and assists are from a team that played the caps a lot. He was 3+5 in 8 games against Edinburgh last season and 8+12 in 24 Scottish conference outings. 4+5 in 16 v our conference and 4+2 in 16 v the other conference.

Also an enforcer who barely fights isn’t that effective because you’ll get players doing things behind the refs back and they know that if they don’t fight and an enforcer were to instigate something then he would of got his team a power play. With Doty not having the same rep I feel he will be able to play the role better and hold more people accountable because more players would be willing to go with him.

Giving this some thought, there are actually more than you think that we're worth 'poaching' from other teams in Blighty. Cruickshank from Basingstoke Cadotte from Bracknell (admittedly Pre EIHL) Myers from Cardiff Farmer from Blaze/Clan albeit via 4 games in ECHL David Clarke who had a number of English clubs before arriving from Guildford & settling in Nottingham No doubt there may be one or two others, food for thought.
