Yet another farcical decision, had it remained in the original format Sheffield would more than likely have been playing Belfast in the quarters wouldn’t they?

I'd love to hear the EIHL's explanation as to why this has been changed again mid season.
This league is just a false and corrupt sham run by money grabbing amateurs, who change the rules to suit whatever situation occurs !

Yet another farcical decision, had it remained in the original format Sheffield would more than likely have been playing Belfast in the quarters wouldn’t they? I am convinced this is the reason, with the two conference winners taking 2 and 3, probably behind Cardiff, it would have pushed Belfast into 4th, where they surely would have played the Steelers or us. This league is an absolute joke and they just made it harder for the smaller teams to qualify. They probably want and Erdhart conference play off weekend instead.... I am pretty disgusted that they continually change the goal posts.

Wonder if this questions would be brought up at the fans forum on play off weekend? Too late by then but would be interesting to see what they said. lets be honest they aren't going to bother a jot about what anyone thinks are they.

Should be done solely on league position. Keep it that for the foreseeable future and then everyone knows the deal

Renders the conferences that little bit more pointless. Basically saving on travel, and handing out 3 trophies that no one cares about.

But to change it three quarters of the way through a season is just wrong, plain wrong and leaves the EIHL wide open yet again to conspiracy theories. They really do not help themselves 🙄 First official chance we get I'm asking the question...."why was it changed" ?

Out of interest, what are the changes to the fixtures? Before and after the change?

Whilst it an absoloute farce to change it at this point in the season im not sure they can be doing it to get the "right teams" through. I would not be suprised in the slightest if they were, just looking at the league table it's so hard to work out who will finish where. Everybody between 2nd and 7th can move significantly. 8th is still up for grabs too.
As it stands we currently would get Belfast instead so protecting the big clubs isn't a certainty. There is now a greater chance we could get Sheffield in the QF. Now that wouldn't be a suprise to find they'd done it for that reason.

As it stands it would be.
Devils v Clan Giants v Panthers Storm v Steelers Flames v Flyers.
The league could easily end up.
Devils Flyers Giants Panthers Steelers(either way around) Storm Flames Stars.
So, Devils v Stars Flyers v Flames Giants v Storm Panthers v Steelers.
But there are lots of ways it could end up yet.

I’m guessing that the league have done it as they expected come the end of the season Panthers, Sheffield and Belfast would have finished above Guildford and Breahead. Currently though with the original format it would be Cardiff (league and conf winner) against 8th place, Braehead, then it would be highest placed conference winner, which is currently Storm, against Panthers in 7th and then the remaining conference winner, Fife, would play 6th place, Guildford, leaving Belfast and Sheffield as 4th and 5th seeds to play each other. So it could potentially have been Cardiff v Brahead Storm v Panthers Fife v Guildford Belfast v Sheffield Basically, the reason that they’ve changed it is because they don’t want any of Panthers, Sheffield and Belfast facing each other in the quarters and it is highly likely that it would have happened.

Yes like the supposedly fair draws of the past done behind closed doors where we have miraculously pulled them out of the hat.

So whilst at this stage the Elite League cannot "actually" fix the line-ups, they are at least having a good go of trying to fix the line-ups - Quality work; what a mickey mouse set-up.

For clarity, here is the "old new" PO Format explained on the EIHL website on January 31st 2018. (Thankfully the internet never forgets!) Screenshot below for those that can't open the link. (Doesn't work well on mobiles.) Attachments:

the only way to make it based upon standings would be to have a equal schedule where everyone plays each other the same number of times. This decision not only further cheapens the playoffs if that is possible but it makes the whole league look amateurish again.....

That's exactly why it has happened.....because there could well have been POFW without both Panthers and Steelers there, because Panthers don't have a great record with Manchester and the Steelers certainly don't against Belfast. And oh my word, wouldn't that have just been a great big fat half empty disaster for the EIHL. This league is a joke !

So all the wise ones on here who scoffed at my suggestion that EIHL is not a competition but instead a symbiotic arrangement to deliver 'entertainment' ala Wrestling and a return on investment for each clubs owner.
See It Yet ?
