Thommo and Tony will likely pick Cardiff in the spirit of fair play.

Brilliant idea, just should have been announced prior to the competition starting as the league have once again opened themselves up to conspiracy/bias comments.
We really don't help ourselves.

Just when you think that the EIHL are beginning to blossom with the successes in to CHL, they come up with this, obviously they are not prepared to spent the 5p or 10p on a new M&S bag, so had to come up with something new - obviously the reasoning has "NOTHING" to do with the fact that Steelers have won their group - change the rules half way through the competition - now worried that the League title will be changed, depending where certain teams are towards the end of season - and how many games will count to the Play-off title (3,5,7, depending on how many Steelers have to play to gain an advantage)

What an absolute joke.
Tony Smith is a complete turd*
How can you decide/announce a rule change to a competition, over half way through? Oh wait, Steelers won their group of course. Maybe just give them a bye to the final Tony and let the other 11 teams scrap it out for the honour of playing then?
Words fail me. How corrupt can this sport become in this country? Just resign Smith. Your more corrupt than Sepp Blatter.
*Apologies to any turds I may have offended.

Agree. I like the format actually but to introduce it halfway through the competition especially when steelers sit top and the chairmans connection with them is just plain wrong. Should have gotten your act together and announced this at the start of the season or waited until next season

I think people need to understand one thing about he EIHL board. Just because Tony Smith is chairman, doesn’t mean he has any more say in these decisions than any other GM. Each member has a vote and if 7 had voted against it, regardless of TS view, it doesn’t go through.
However, anything like this should have been decided for pre season and explained at the time. On that I absolutely agree on

What a total farce...
And in completely unrelated news (ahem!) the EIHL have confirmed that even after a concerted effort, they have still been unable to find their collective backside.
"We've tried everything" a league spokesman explained "We've used both hands, we got a map, we even nicked the satnav out of Todd Kelman's Beemer... but nothing doing!"
"We know where Dave Simms is - let's face it, you can't miss him (unfortunately) - but he's not the a**e that we're trying to find. We were going to ask DOPS for help, but... well, that kind of went wrong as well."

Not really...Ted will change his tack half way through the proceedings. Good shout. I might make it onto the EIHL board if I do it often enough and it benefits my club.

On that I absolutely agree on I think the majority of fans will be aware of that, but the optics aren't good. While TS is chairman of the league he'll always have that stigma of being biased towards the steelers especially when dubious decisions are made which turn out to benefit the steelers. It also just looks amateurish from the outside looking in as this sort of disorganisation could cloud all the improvement that is happening on ice in the EIHL. This season alone we've had the farce of DOPS and now this

Bloody stupid idea. Jeez did they ask Simon Kirkham to come up with that silly half baked format.
Just get a black cloth bag and 8 numbered balls. Check there's 8 different numbers in there and draw it tie by tie in front of a bloody camera !
Absolute farce !!!

Looks like Panthers vs Cardiff then! Can't imagine any of the first 3 seeds will pick either Cardiff or us for a quarter final match! Guildford have a pretty good chance of picking up 4th seed. If that were the case you might imagine Steelers v Dundee MK v Fife Giants v. Panthers or devils? Guildford with giants rejection. Who would you pick if that were the case and you were giants?

It's quite a common format, I don't see anything wrong with making the group stage have a bit more of a point. The issue is obviously announcing this after the group stage has more or less finished. Giants would still be able to select Guildford. Assuming no one picks for ticket sales - no names spring to mind - then I'd imagine Giants and MK will split Fife and Guildford and we'll face the Devils.

You are right, I thought seeds 1-4 match 5-8, but it’s 1-3 pick from 4-8 ... so being seeded anywhere in 4-8 matters not.

Might not work out so well for Sheffield, beyond the quarters. Says Q1 plays Q4, which will likely be them versus us or Cardiff, so not the easiest route.

No matter what happens in the remaining games we are playing the Devils in the QF, nobody will want to play either of us.
It does add some importance to our game against Manchester now, in that if we win that game we will ensure 4th seed and will be able to have the second leg at home which is always an advantage imo.
