Thoroughly enjoyable game, great intensity in the first and a lot of good hits (from both sides). We were never going to keep that up for 60 minutes, and in fairness to them they were the dominant force from then on, but if you can't score... Agree with Higgy that the 5th at the death could be decisive. Really shoddy work from whichever Steeler it was to get stripped of the puck there. Niki's goal had some lovely build up play too, great work from Schultz. The only one I think was worthy of a penalty was the Dimmen trip. It's interesting, I didn't see that as a trip (thought he lost an edge) but no reason to suspect you're not correct Kezy. I do wonder if we could watch all these calls back, how many wouldn't look quite so egregious as they seemed at the time.

Great first period. Awful second and third. Refs were awful, 5 penalties in a row for us. The only one I think was worthy of a penalty was the Dimmen trip. We were getting called for nothing. Surprised Dimmen didn't get a match penalty, anyone else see him through the puck at the ref after they scored? Don't think the ref noticed. He was missing stuff all night.

Somebody tell me how. In a game like that with stuff happening all over the place, one team gets SIX successive penalties and the other gets NONE !
How does that happen ?

I think the rule of "we must even everything out" came into effect. Unbelievable and each call got softer as it went on. I hate blaming the refs but the amount of PP they have them in the second and third was a disgraxe

If you're defending a lot, I imagine you're more likely to give away penalties.

Also to add, massive credit needs to go to Corey for an effective use of his time out. Obviously I'm sure he didn't draw up Lawrence's goal but it was a good time to try and calm some people down

A result that gives us a chance. Not a fair chance, not a 'turn up and defend from the start' chance, but a chance nevertheless. Credit Steelers for coming back into the game, thank God their finishing is shoddy (Yes #15, I'm talking about you). I hope Corey's noticed that when they cycle the puck deep, they always bring a man at the back post, cos if we don't pick that up tomorrow it will be a long night. But there was an energy about Panthers all game that has been missing most of the season. So we've got a chance.

Try and have a look at Chris Hallams video on FB it has the whole Mcgratten episode in glorious technicolor . He even thanked Fitzy on the bench at the end.classic. Thought Lindhagen had a very quiet game tonight he's usually all over the ice. Hopefully we have enough in the and for tomorrow we looked knackered in the 2nd and 3rd

First period was epic. Did exactly what we needed to do. Forechecked, hit them, took our chances. Almost perfect.
Second period was the Miika show. Amazing display of netminding.
Third period was ruined by those two clowns in the armbands. Either keep your whistles in your pockets and your arms down or go zero tolerance. You can't have one set of rules for one team and one for the other. The Lawrence goal could be crucial.
Good atmosphere despite not being a full house. Steelers fans giving Big Ern the ee-aw chant is so ironic. Lastly, I actually think Paul Thompson is the most petulant adult man I've ever come across. Embarrassing really.

This game reminded me of that League Game against Sheffield, where we blitzed them but they came back into it and we held on. However we have that 3 goal lead. (I'm pretty sure we would take it before the start)
I have no idea whether a 3 goal lead is enough but assuming Sheffield don't score early, then they may get nervous.
I have no idea what tactics to employ but I'm guessing our objective will be don't concede but try to score, Sheffield may need to score 4 or 5 (Which is possible but not ideal)
Refereeing tomorrow is so crucial, I just want a fairly called game for both sides even though I would have like Corey to make a statement before the game to get into The Referee's heads.
I just don't know what to expect or think about tomorrow's 2nd Leg

Seemed horrendous, some of them, I agree. But as already said, for one I thought was a dud, someone else thought was OK. Without seeing them back, can anyone be totally sure? Last week we had the non-goal which was definitely a goal by all accounts, then we see the vid and...

I was a bag of nerves before the game tonight and I still am now even with the three goal lead!
What an electric atmosphere that was tonight, who says the rivalry is dead. I'd lost my voice after McGrattan put the puck in, the roof came off the place, a perfect sequence of events!
Brown set the tone with that first hit and we built off that, the fans got going and we were unstoppable. We need to be noisy again tomorrow, we've seen tonight the affect we can have.

Obviously didn't learn much from that game did we !

The shift for the 4th goal is without a shadow of a doubt the most gloriously perfect piece of play I've ever seen!

You can't turn down fights at every opportunity until you wanna spot pick to suit your needs!

3 goal minimum lead or else i think that's all she wrote for this tire fire of a season. Clinging to that ray of hope, which will see us go strong to the final weekend and have us asking "where was that team all season" but i don't see it happening, we're unbalanced, unorganised and uninspired. Can this team stop making me look stupid please. Damn.

Wow. 1st period was brilliant, amazing and frustrating in equal measure.
I know all players step it up a bit for playoffs but the difference in effort level compared to the last 6 months was staggering.

Mcgratten was under Fitzgerald skin. He managed to goad Fitzgerald into taking stupid penalties and the bagged a goal and the celebration! Yes Brian! So much for just a thug! How many is that this season? That said one superb period followed by two periods of us sitting back playing defence dump play hockey. Same again tonight target hagos and Fitzgerald, wind them up and they will do something stupid. Chase them in their third and throw those hits! Steelers can't play physical ....... Except of course when the pucks stopped and our players back is turned! Then look who all of a sudden becomes the hard man!

The one I could not believe was an elbow at the entrance end right in front of the ref into the head of on elf the Panthers players - which Peering missed. Unbleivable
