How is pering even allowed to ref this game!!!!! Evens it self up the night after when Hicks who supplies your jerseys refs you. To be fair Perring has been poor, never done us any favours. Apart from the obvious one last Saturday with Hagos....

Apart from the obvious one last Saturday with Hagos.... and a recent away game, against Sheffield, where Nikiforuk got 5+game for what was a 2 min boarding minor...

Just the abuse of official or misconduct call that was completely ignored. McGrattan gets them just for looking at an official.

Think it says alot about how the Panthers fans are feeling when a Steelers season ticket game is no where near selling out, let's see how the Should Cory be the man to take us into next season poll swings after tonight's game and then again tomorrow currently at about 75% saying no. Whatever happens tonight I am wasting no more money on this season and will wait for next season.

Best 20mins so far.
For mcgrattens goal did he ask Fitzgerald to drop the gloves? Looked like from where I was, fitzy didn't and then we scored.
Browns hit on sarich, wow.

Fitzgerald offered McGrattan, he waved him off, then Brian scored! Fitzgerald had his chance to fight him all season, he's left it too late unfortunately haha

I finished work by 5 o clock. Met the other half and food shopped. Got home to see the dog 'Oscar'. Read more of my 'Italian Job' book...then it came to me. Oh it's the play offs...ran onto here and by god were 4-1 up....very well done, though a Cup game sprint of a competition. We are winning and three goals will go nicely to Sheffield.

Panthers win 5-2 in spite of being the poorer team for two of the three periods. Thankfully miika was on his game. Didn't expect that. See what the 2nd leg brings. Hopefully we can hold on to our lead. I'm sure Lawrence will be feted as the hero because of that last goal which i think is vital going into tomorrow. Although he was by far one of the poorest on the once again tonight.... It was so quiet in the Sheffield section tonight. I forgot they were here until they scored their second goal.... Off yet another dubious powerplant opportunity.... Though it wasn't Pering who called it.

How is it possible for 2 referees to be a worse option than 1 referee???

Great first period. Awful second and third. Refs were awful, 5 penalties in a row for us. The only one I think was worthy of a penalty was the Dimmen trip. We were getting called for nothing. Surprised Dimmen didn't get a match penalty, anyone else see him through the puck at the ref after they scored?

It's pretty impressive that up against some very stiff competition over the years, that was in the top 3 worst reffing performances I've ever seen.
The body language of #44 said it all - he looked massively tense and uncomfortable when he was making those dodgy calls. He knew he was cheating. You can try, but your body language will always give you away.
The game itself was pretty much pointless. We started brilliantly, but then spent the rest of the game on the PK.
Who goes through depends entirely on the refs (which in sport it should NEVER do). If the refs are like they were tonight, we don't stand a chance. If they're not cheats, then I'd say at half time it was about level.

I think I've just about calmed down,I've forgot what it feels like to be so tense at a hockey game.
First period we were simply awesome, hit everything and played with such a high intensity I couldn't believe this was the same Panthers team!
2nd and 3rd was all Steelers and somehow they only scored 2,a combination of Mikka, last ditch defending and shocking finishing kept it to 2,that Lawrence goal could be MASSIVE
McGratten and Fitzgerald had a coming together and I think Ern knocked Fitzy's stick out his hand, then up the other end he tries repeatedly cross check Ern,who offers him...surprise surprise he declines and cross checks him again. Next thing Mcgratten smashes the puck in and celebrates in front of the Steelers fans....best thing I've seen all season. There is a photo of Brian smiling as Fitzy is cross checking him, hilarious.

Well, great first period. The second and third periods though, can't fault the Panthers players, but you have to really question Neilsons tactics with five periods left in a two legged tie. Panthers played a very dangerous game after the first 20 minutes and it could very easily have backfired, but Wiikman bailed them out time and again.
As for the refs, all I can say is somebody must have given them instructions to try and keep the game close and the second leg alive. In a game like that where the refs are trying to let things go,how on earth one team gets away virtually penalty free for two periods whilst the other team gets pen after pen just cannot be fair !

Need an electric start tomorrow like tonight, hit them hard and light the lamp early. Steelers cannot handle the physical, gritty play and they proved it by going down so hard so early.
Good games from the majority of players, I thought Schultz and Williams were the weakest links though.
Officiating was poor. Questionable calls from the 2nd period to the end. Goalies being run left right and centre. Cheap shots all over the place, yet the only calls were ones that most didn't see or they just didn't happen.
Arrived with low expectations, now my nerves are shot!

Absolute comedy classic. Thompson calls a time out and tells his players to start using their heads. Fitzgerald immediately goes out and plays silly sods with McGratten who then scores and the idiot Fitzgerald skates back to the bench with Thompson shaking his head in dispare.
Well played Panthers. Half way there.

That was a performance to be proud of. PP goals, netnindjng, defensive work just incredible.
The sequence to Mcgrattens goal was a pure joy to watch. He did everything right and that celebration. The rivalry may not be what it used to be but it was lit up tonight.
Lawrence was poor but can't argue with scoring at the death like that. 4-2 looked shaky but 3 goals is a comfortable start. Tomorrow could still go either way and we cannot write them off in their barn.
