Perhaps the most pertinent point is, wether Simms meant what he said or not, wether it was just a joke or wether or not people are being over sensitive, in what other sport would a club official even countenance saying such a thing? Crass, ignorant, arrogant and clueless.

I think the most pertinent point in this is to look at his history... have a look and you'll see he was suspended from Twitter for calling someone a 'Fag' so as far as I can see there is previous evidence of this type of behaviour which leads me to believe that he is homophobic. Had there been no previous history of this type of behaviour I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, but this time he's dug an almighty hole and I have no idea how he'll dig himself out.

As I stated earlier, myself (and others) have no intention of letting him dig himself out this time. I will not be satisfied with anything less than him being sacked, or if he were able to put his ego to one side, him resigning.

What is Simms position in the elite league anyway? As far as I can see he's a dj and raffle ticket seller? Or is he some kind of spokesman for the steelers / the league? Why does he get invited to elite league board meetings? Why do the other owners allow it? Why is Simms given an elevated position when he continuously embarrasses the league?
No mention of his position on the steelers or elite league websites Am I missing something? What are we going to sack him from?
This is getting international coverage now. Any news from the league chairman? Or the old boys club? No leadership what so ever, head in the sand and wait for it to blow over I guess.

What is Simms position in the elite league anyway? He acts as spokesperson at league meeting for the Sheffield Steelers in lieu of Tony Smith (who as league chairman chairs the meetings in an 'independant' capacity). As you say, he is also their spokesperson. Already answered. No idea. "We" aren't, that is Tony Smith's call. That seems to be what they're hoping for. Not going to happen though.

I hate David Simms as much as the next guy but I have to say, I'm hearing a lot of people calling him a straight up homophobe and a disgrace to British hockey etc. but when Cam Janssen played for us last season, I didn't hear the same criticisms. I'd argue that what Cam said in that radio interview was said with a lot more malice and intent to offend.
Perhaps it's a different rule when it's a popular player playing for us.

Cam Janssen - Single episode of homophobic behaviour, which was dealt with . No reoccurance since. David Simms - This is (by my count) his 6th episode of homophobic comments, that's also before taking into account his previous misogynistic, sexist and racist comments, since his 2011 slap on the wrist by the EIHL. How many is too many?

For me this has been one of the worse aspects of this whole sorry affair, it really does ram home just how amateur the league governance is. We can moan till our hearts content about no national TV coverage/League Sponsor etc. But until the league starts to at least try to be professional the league doesn't deserve them.

But he'll tell us all that he's professional , people on forums talk rubbish etc....

They have been recruiting for a Commercial Director for well over a year.... What a crock, must think all the fans are stupid.

SHEFFIELD STEELERS STATEMENT on: March 08, 2017 In: EIHL latest news, Elite Teams, Latest News, Sheffield Steelers Sheffield Steelers have issued the following statement regarding the incident at the Steelers-Coventry Blaze game at the Sheffield Arena on Saturday 4th March: During the Game our overhead cameras were panning the arena for our fans to take part in our “kiss cam”. The idea of “kiss cam” is for people to turn to each other and kiss – the best kiss of the night then receives a prize. We also do this as a “dance cam” similar process but the best dancer of the evening wins a prize. The camera picked out people at random in the crowd sitting next to each other, the two males leaned over and kissed their female companions to the left and right respectively. The two males then turned and kissed each other – this was met with applause as a way of the crowd showing their appreciation for those taking part and joining in the fun on the night. The match night announcer, David Simms, called the kissing of the two males “disgusting” and asked that they be removed. This was a most regrettable incident which the Steelers realise has caused tremendous upset to some fans and in particular the LGBT community, many of whom are Steelers fans. The Steelers wish to place on record their sincere apology to anyone who was upset by David’s comments and as an organisation we in no way condone them. David Simms says he is very sorry that his comments have upset people, including those in the LGBT community, but that was not his intention. Steelers Managing Director and Elite Ice Hockey League chairman Tony Smith said: “David’s actions on Saturday night were foolish and thoughtless – I have spoken to him at length and he is very sorry for all the hurt and upset he has caused to the LGBT community. “Yesterday I spoke with Neale Gibson of LGBT Sheffield explaining the events which surrounded the incident on Saturday night, Neale has very kindly offered advice which we are taking. “I have also been in contact with Stonewall to discuss an LGBT programme the Steelers could participate in. Their policy and motto “acceptance without exception” is one the Steelers have always tried to follow. “I must stress David’s actions do not reflect the attitude or policy of the Sheffield Steelers towards the LGBT community – we are a family and welcome each and everyone to the Steelers games without exception and hope this regrettable incident brings the Steelers and the LGBT community closer together in the future.”

I've always thought Simms, like Moran, knows way too much and therefore has a job for as long as he wants one.

I've always thought Simms, like Moran, knows way too much and therefore has a job for as long as he wants one. Depends what matters to Tony Smith most, keeping sponsors or keeping Simms. Sponsors don't like to be associated in any way to controversy and in these days when it's difficult enough to get sponsors, a concerted effort targeting their sponsors by association may produce results. For instance, those university courses that Sheffield University provide to lure players must help trim the wage bill. Universities also attract a diverse student body, very apt at making their views felt within the university...

I had hoped this would finally be the straw that broke the camel’s back for David Simms, and we’d be finally rid of him. Looks like with the sweep well and truly underway, now he’ll actually get away with it AGAIN, with no more than half-hearted PR firefighting as his punishment. At least one “ final warning” was given to him back in 2011, yet how many times has he made gaffes that have went sanction free? At least a handful from twitter that I know of directly relate to the sort of comments he made at the weekend. (They were posted on THF.) His behaviour has damaged both the fans and the sport UK wide, this one incident alone would be enough pretty much anywhere else in the working world for the offender in question to lose their job instantly without one hell of a super (and very genuine) apology. Simms has a rap sheet that literally spans decades! For what it’s worth, I’ll be writing to my MP, along with the local MP in question in Sheffield and the Councillor involved with SIV. Nothing may still happen, but at least I’ve done my bit to try and do something about it. I urge other folk to do the same, the more people that do, the better the chance we can use this as a platform to start a much overdue cleansing of our sport, and take it a step closer towards true professionalism.

From what I can tell is that they keep him on at the Steelers as he has access to a colour printer at his day job which he can use for leaflets.

Do not know if this is as a consequence of the above but I have been unable to access Squeeltalk for the last couple of days - last time I was on it was suffering from a little meltdown due to Simms and the CC fiasco

Quite note to say that I received a reply from Councillor Neale Gibson who sits on the SIV board. (Company running Sheffield Arena.) He confirmed to me & others as well that he is; “following up this issue at the next meeting of the Directors of SIV with a view to insisting that they review their use of this person.”
I've also had confirmation of receipt from the other E-Mails I've sent today.

I find it amazing that they can ban all and sundry for all sorts of misdemeanours.....but their club continue to employ an executive of their team management who has done as many unsavoury things over the years as Simms has. I notice Simmsey has locked his own personal Twitter account too !

Who else have you been emailing? My local MP, the relevant MP for Sheffield (Clive Betts) and Unison. It might not return the desired results, but at least my conscience is clear. I've had David Simms on my blocked list for over 3 years, this latest episode has convinced me doing my best to ignore his antics just simply isn't an option anymore. We deal with enough rubbish in our own lives, having it seep into our favourite pastime as well is utterly unacceptable.

Wonder if the sanctimonious mods on Steelbleat think Simms is just a harmless Jester? Any defence of the Brummie clown by them would have the stink of hypocrisy about it.
