The end of DOPS as we know it? Lyle Seitz along with the PSC have agreed to look at incidents going forward to assist the EIHL in the interim until the EIHL meet on November 8th for an emergency board meeting to discuss DOPS and Refereeing. 9 The EIHL have removed Simon Kirkham as Head of the Department of Player Safety with immediate effect. About time too. But who on Earth are Lyle Seitz and PSC ? A body who know what they're doing! And very knowledgeable of the sport

Can't wait for the reaction from the Steelers fans that were defending it before. Caesars profile picture springs to mind. Fetch me the popcorn.

I've just read it. And I would say their assessment of all the incidents are absolutely 100% spot on. Couldn't agree more. They can see it,we could see it,so what on earth Dops we're seeing is a bloody mystery !

I think that’s why Kirkham has gone, so unbelievably biased in favour of Sheffield in that instance. Plus the fact it’s gone international and the subsequent bad reaction has brought the league into disrepute.

When it's such a huge source of our player recruitment, and the league is so unknown to fans, such stories in the press are detrimental. I think a well done is in order to those at the top for at least taking decent retrospective action to limit the damage. League ha to start spending some cash on things like this.....need a qualified professional in the role of safety arbitrator. Plenty of people also offering their time need to be spoken to (i.e. Dr Victoria Silverwood)

At last, common sense prevails.
Something DOPS were clearly lacking.

That was something else that was strange. I don't think I've seen 5+game for high sticks. Usually it's 2 minutes or 2+2 and occasionally 5 minute major but only when blood is involved. Has anyone else or can anyone enlighten me? From the IIHF rulebook: RULE 143 – HIGH-STICKING DEFINITION: A player who carries his stick or any part of it above the height of his shoulders and who strikes an opponent with any part of it. i. A player who makes contact with an opponent with a high stick will be assessed at least a minor penalty.ii. A player who injures an opponent accidentally by a high-sticking foul will be assessed a double-minor penalty. iii. A player who injures an opponent by a careless high-sticking foul will be assessed either a major penalty and automatic game-misconduct penalty or a match penalty.iv. A player who makes contact with any part of an opponent’s upper body while winding up to shoot or while following through on a shot or pass is subject to all penalties for high-sticking. Do I take that to mean there must be an injury Jono to get chucked out?

He's still a lily livered clown, scared to make a big decision ! Has he been disciplined? Why would he be? The excellent and detailed report from renowned experts says he made the right decision. Situation #1: The body check delivered by White (6) on Orange (67)
This play, is a legal body check. No injury, no real force, not excessive, which eliminates any and all possible factors to be worthy of a 5+ Game Misconduct. Fact White (6) hit the back of Orange (67) is the fault of Orange skating backwards out of his D-Zone into Neutral zone. It’s simply a body check that is expected, taught and required (player stepping up and taking skating lane away from puck carrier).Maybe, just maybe, these refs know what they’re on about.

He's still a lily livered clown, scared to make a big decision ! Has he been disciplined? I doubt it. They will be frightened to death of losing a ref ! Seems a simple answer to me. Leave our future EIHL disciplinary issues in the hands of the bodies or people who reviewed this incident.

I agree with everything in that report except the first bit. If that was a legal body check then God help the players! I love legal hits and checks but that wasn't one of them.

They explained why it was legal and these guys are trained extensively in legal hits. They’ve made it clear Fretter is at fault for being naive in his actions out of the zone.

Didn't Fitzgerald miss the previous Giants game in Sheffield, but threatened that he would take one out next time they met? I seem to recall a discussion somewhere about this.

The vast majority of people have smart phones these days. I strongly recommend you download the IIHF rulebook, not sure of a rule? You can look it up straight away.
It’s really helped my understanding of the game and has led me to realise that the on ice officials get it right 99.9% of the time.

Must admit, I'm a bit surprised by the reduction in the suspension for wotzisface - Goulash... thought they'd want to clamp down on careless/reckless actions involving skates. But Chicken Fritter getting his bumped up... spot on.
Hopefully this should put to bed the bovine excrement about Kirkham supposedly being biased against Sheffield due to alleged links to Nottingham... seeing as it has been proven that he was far too lenient towards a Sheffield player. Good riddance to that load of rubbish.

You know nothing about me or my history in sport. I am here as a legitimate poster giving my views, rightly or wrongly on what I see. You will not believe me but, I am extremely neutral, even as a Steeler fan. I know a little more than you think actually.

Apologies. I actually know where to get the rules but, being online on the Cage, I thought it easier to ask here! I still don't get Fitzgerald's ejection though.
