There's going to be a difference between not standing in the way of a player when he wants to leave (which we never seem to do), and whatever their notice terms are in their contract. I'd not be surprised if these days the contracts were all different to one another and negotiated on a player by player basis, especially now we're handing out multi-year deals and including education in the deals. Anyway, decent interview on HQ. Good questions, no Dictaphone click at the end and no advert for the last few seats in the bowl. Gary must be off sick. McGrattan sounds knackered from the travelling mind. So if there isn't a two week clause but we won't stand until in the way of a player leaving the net result is the same, contracts durations is irrelevant.

They're not irrelevant if we want to terminate a contract, and the player isn't having it. Other than gross professional misconduct you'd need to pay him up his notice period, which if it was a decent length of time (McGrattan is likely to be I would think), we aren't going to do.

It rather seems to me that the two year thing is weighted in the players favour. If he wants to go (like Cam),we aren't going to stop him or the player just sulks and becomes a liability. But if the player wants to invoke his two year option,(like Lacho did recently late in the summer),then Panthers can't sulk and are duty bound to honour it,providing the player does nothing wrong.

Ah great so the only person with a liability to get screwed is us.

Ah great so the only person with a liability to get screwed is us. Basically yes. Unless we want to pay a player off, which would cost us. But realistically, you would have to be pretty certain about the player in the first place before you offer him a two year deal.
