I'm so excited I will never get to sleep for a week now. But I did tell you yesterday that an NHL tough guy was coming though. # NHL tough guy equals bums on seats and tickets sold.....go Panthers ! It's not enough to get this bum on a seat!!!! I was just thinking how many hospital beds will Simmsey need to pre book, my guess x2

Are people really expecting him to come in and jump every player going? I don't think he'll have as major impact as people are thinking off the bat.
I kinda feel people want a loose cannon and I don't think this guy will be. I hope he uses his 'skills' when appropriate.

He's gonna be a cross between Janssen and Salters. Tough, hard hitting,in front of the net, play a fair bit too and fight just the 2 or 3 other big guys who dare take him on.
He isn't going to go around looking for a fight every game....if he did,he won't get one !

He wouldn't last long either. DOPS would see to that. (They still exist, right?)

Yeah I think people are forgetting that he's only had 8 fights over the last 2 seasons, and only 38 over the last 6 seasons (compared to 93 for Fitzgerald). I can't imagine he'll be coming over here looking to fight, particularly after his KO last season. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if a reason he's coming over here is so he doesn't have to fight and can just play.
I'm pretty sure Farmer will fight more than he will this season.

If you listen to the interview, he's Come over to do what he's always done. He wants to fight and he says it would be a bad example to his son if he got knocked out and quit fighting.
He won't go looking for them but he won't back down. He was hockey has gone soft

I actually laughed out loud when I read this. Farmer going to fight more than mcgratten? come over so he doesn't have to fight? He has already said his game won't change he will fight pleanty probably either desbien or Fitzgerald Saturday. He thinks Hockey has gone soft last thing he is going to do is back out of fighting. The knock out can happen you get caught wrong you can get knocked out. Like he himself said, he isn't dead.

I expect him to do exactly what Cam did. He wont be a loose cannon who skates around looking for fights. He will be an enforcer and that's what Cam did so well. It wasn't the dropping the gloves that made Cam Cam. It was anybody stepping out of line or going near the goalie knowing it wasn't gonna happen on his watch. More often than not Cam enforced by going talking to people saying do that again and I'll have you. He never just flew in firsts swinging.
I can only see McGratton doing the same. And as with Cam he isn't likely to back down when the call comes. Hopefully he also plays the checking role Cam did too, but on top of that can enjoy playing some hockey and putting up some points.

Believe you'll find he's less of a forechecking energy player as Cam & will actually contribute some decent points.

McGrattan is one of the most respected enforcers out there, he takes a lot of pride in his role and shows great respect to others who he shares the role with. I may be wrong, but i've never seen a video of him jumping anyone, always asks or answers for his own questionable hits, he knows that fighting is dying from the sport due to the head injuries which are quite often caused when players get jumped and don't get much chance to fight back.. Most severe case is Bertuzzi-Moore. He is a very respectable player and a incredibly respectable person, i'd expect a lot of fights to occur out of 'honour' in the sense that being one of the last great enforcers, a huge name, some of the other enforcers around the league might take their chance and offer to fight him because of his name and history, very much staged yes but i wouldn't be surprised to see it happen. Besides that, he will seek to bring justice against anyone who injures a player or is causing problems for us.
Farmer will still fight, it's Farmer, he's lovable but an ass.

I think how many fights he has depends of course on how many want to risk fighting him.
Other than Bordeleau,Rosehill and Klotz, maybe Fitzgerald,Desbiens and Keefe,i can't see many others taking a chance on getting hammered.

The sign of a good enforcer isn't measured by the amount of fights they have but how they can control a game. He's going to come in, play a tough brand of hockey, throw hits make himself know and make sure everyone knows you can't cheap shot anyone on his team's and when someone has the stones to drop them I'm sure he will assess the situation of the game and go if it's needed. He's been doing this a long time, there's no question he's going to go about his business it the most professional way possible.

There's a very good interview on sportsnet ca with Brian talking about his career and the film Ice Guardians. Very interesting to here his take on us and what' he's expecting, he also mentioned he's signed a 2yr contract with us which is good to know. There is a link on his Twitter page to the interview if one of you techy lot can copy it.

Two year contracts are as about as reliable as Corey's line choices.

Hard to disagree with that view. Two year deals especially this season have proven to be flimsy at best. I hope he is here for two years minimum. Think he will be a super addition

The reason that the 2 Years part of the deal wasn't made public is probably so if he flops, gets injured, etc.. Then it wouldn't be as bad, publicly for Panthers in the sense they could've made out he only had months left rather than years. Sounds stupid but Panthers do like to twist things a bit to avoid the spotlight

The fact is every contract has a two week get out clause for both player and club. It's not like the NHL where you sign the line and that's you until you are bought out or it expires. Even when traded your contract stands.
The two week contract is one of the appeals for players coming to the UK.
It's a bit ancient history but Dan Tessier did this when he pinged on the Swiss leagues radar and quit on us before Christmas.
Essentially all our contracts are only two week contracts never mind multi year. Uni deals may be different but I don't know.

Absolutely spot on Nate, two year contracts with EIHL hockey teams are worthless. Fact is if both parties are happy with the product & no other offers are on the table then players will come back.
All it does it provide some minimal security to the player/club.

Unless you've seen all the contracts in the EIHL, or even any of them, I'd suggest stating facts about them isn't really possible.

I was amazed at the low wage and how little bonus they got for winning a trophy.....£200 for a challenge cup and it was either £300 or £400 for the league.

There's going to be a difference between not standing in the way of a player when he wants to leave (which we never seem to do), and whatever their notice terms are in their contract. I'd not be surprised if these days the contracts were all different to one another and negotiated on a player by player basis, especially now we're handing out multi-year deals and including education in the deals.
Anyway, decent interview on HQ. Good questions, no Dictaphone click at the end and no advert for the last few seats in the bowl. Gary must be off sick. McGrattan sounds knackered from the travelling mind.
