Thanks to everyone who has said they would like to get involved so far.
I'm going to set up a WhatsApp group for us to use to make arrangements and discuss a few things. Once we have decided on an agreed name we can set up Twitter and Facebook pages which should help to recruit more members and can be used to promote meetings etc.

So at Friday's meeting we will be covering What a supporters trust is, examples of what trusts have achieved in other sports, the Nottingham Forest Supporters Trust and we'll also have an open forum section for questions and discussion.
Attended meeting last night. The Supporters Trust Introduction and Feasibility Session explained how Trusts work and how it may fit with Supporters in the Ice Hockey circles. The main intro notes and discussion centered upon the differences with and about an example with the Nottingham Forest Football club. Other well known trusts in several sports.I assume Rob will be penning notes here so I won't get in the way. just to note that the two main people talking are obviously well spoken and business like, knowing their stuff.From little acorns 'as they say' from here.Let's see what is to happen.
Poorly explained by myself.It's about helping fans and club have a better interaction with each other. To safeguard and evolve on all sides.
'Strengthen bonds between' I'd say.I learnt something. Trusts have more oppertunity than independant supporters clubs.Plus rights.
If this takes off it will engage upon 'Sports Dirct' organisation.Speak to personel, meet, advocate, vote and elect a board to register a trust.
Agreed, pity the attendance was as good as wished for. Hopefully there is a foundation to build on and go forward. The input from Elliott was very informative and I think Jono summed it up precisely when he said 'we want the club to see us as supporters and not customers '

At the 1st meeting we had a brief section on why some of us felt that a Supporters Trust is needed for Nottingham Panthers and the steps we have already taken including contacting Supporters Direct.
Supporters Direct helps fans to set up democratic cooperatives (known as supporters’ trusts) to gain influence in the running and ownership of their clubs.
During establishment of a supporters' trust
From the outset, we provide support and advice to an individual supporter or group of supporters who are interested in establishing a supporters' trust. If we can help, we then provide support & help for meetings, paperwork and registration during its establishment.
The next stage explained in more detail about what a Supporters Trust is and how it differs from a Supporters Club. Effectively one of the main differences is that it can become very difficult and eventually impossible for a club to ignore a supporters trust. This is the area that some of those at the meeting seemed to be surprised and interested by. Once established a club must meet their supporters trust as least twice a year.
Elliot from the Nottingham Supporters Trust then gave a detailed talk about the progress they have made in setting up their supporters trust which is further down the line than the Nottingham Panthers one and spoke about the amount of work required and some of the hurdles that must be overcome. After that we took some questions from the floor, these mainly centered around the legal aspect of the trust and what can be done is different situations. We also spoke to the fans in attendance about why they felt we needed to make some positive changes.
The next steps to be taken are to raise awareness of the supports trust, formalise the initial aims and to schedule a 2nd meeting.
The end result of the 1st meeting was I believe that everyone in attendance is more enthusiastic about what a trust is and what can be achieved. Also I think that everyone now realises that we see this as a positive thing and want to work with the club and it's management rather than against them.

Just to add to that. Even larger clubs trusts , initially have a small percentage of the fans compared to their attendance to the sports event but are a very good number of fans who recognise a need to be heard. ie,You may have 20,000 at a game but 2,000 people in a trust are a lot if feeling disolusioned and can represent many more people.
Afterall, not every ticket sold at a hockey game is a regular fan, considering this as an entertainment product and as such has walk ups to games in numbers.....good ST numbers or not.
In Ice Hockey I'd like to think that it is still the family orientated game we all speak of that brings the regular fans together, ST supporter and all, a fan type who wants to be involved in their club.So please get in touch with Rob and enjoy the experiance to be able to talk hockey. It's not to have a dig at the club.It's a chance to get involved on the outside.
