As a comparison a season ticket for the Olympic Qualifiers in Italy in Feb, which covers three GB games and three other games is just £36.
I'm still going to the playoff finals and already sorted tickets.

I thought it was held in Nottingham because the Council coughed up loads of money to keep it here?

Do you think the weekend has declined over those 15 years? Without a doubt, to the point where I don't even bother any more. This is me as well. Went to every playoffs since 96 and not been to the last 3. It used to feel like an event but now it feels like it's put on because it's tradition. Nothing has been attempted to refresh the weekend. The music is always the same playlist. Both teams believe they're (play Brian Adams, gonna win) Play pirates of the Caribbean music. Play some Tom Jones for the Welsh. Play Belfast city. I think a good weekend would be a magic weekend similar to rugby league. Devils VS Coventry Sheffield vs Nottingham Belfast vs Manchester Fife vs Dundee Brahead vs Edinburgh Play the fixtures across a weekend. Doesn't have to be a tournament just regular league games. Or make it a challenge cup weekend as previously suggested. But I have finished with the playoffs until it changes. Too much money for 3 competitive games that may team could potentially not play in. I'd expect to pay 50 - 60 for the weekend. Slightly higher than the average cost of 3 games. I know it's actually 4 but I can't call the 4th a serious fixture worth paying for.

It's no coincidence we probably tire of it as time goes on - it's at home!

That's only ever got one way to go.

Last year was the biggest ticket sales they have had, so something must be being done right.

Last year was the biggest ticket sales they have had, so something must be being done right. They used to sell out in a few days and now you can get get tickets virtually right up until the first game. Like most things is UK hockey it stinks of fish for a reason.

a lot of you are so negative. i have no idea why you post or even bother to come on here. its a two day hockey fest (its going to be expensive it is meant to be the pinnacle of the season), for us its at home (so we are lucky), we meet great guys and gals from everywhere, nice local places to eat and drink, arena is good with good views wherever you sit, stewards are nice and friendly, you can go outside in the breaks and the MC is usually good. for god sake if you dont like it or dont want to go dont bother and want stop bleating on about it. at the end of the day there is actually more to life than ice hockey. and haven't even mentioned the 50 50 tickets or the shirt tickets.

This is the exact reason nothing will change. Hockeyfest? 2 games 1 day and 1 game the next? I don't go to hockey for the stewards, 50/50 or shirt tickets. I'd expect to be let outside wherever I went. The good places to eat are in my doorstep and can eat there whenever I like. Nobodies point is that the concept of the weekend is bad. I'm sure everybody would love true 'hockeyfest' but POFW just isn't it. It's a great opportunity for the league to take a lot and give very little. GM's in the league have admitted themselves it's becoming stale. People seem to go in about how awesome the weekend is (and it used to be) but I think most are nostalgic about a weekend that once was. Accepting that it's going to be expensive and just sucking it up us exactly what the EIHL will want from all of us. I expect to pay 16 quidish a match. So I stand by my previous estimate of 50-60 for the weekend. I'd sway toward the higher end for the longer opening hours of the arena. I'm glad you enjoy it and get value for money. I wish I still did. But I can't justify the cost for the product.

You're right. I am indeed guilty and I've had a change of heart. I will pay over the odds for my ticket for 3 games. I will go and I WILL love it no matter what. I now can't wait to see the stewards and the design on the the 50-50 ticket. I will give positive feedback to the league even though weekend has become diluted and let them know I will be willing to pay more next year as it's the POFW and we all love it natter what. Then I can look forward to being let out of the arena during games next year. That is one of the perks of the NIC after all.

Does anyone know how the ticket sales went for the Panther's blocks. Normally there is a report on the OS saying how well they've sold however there currently hasn't been one?
Thank You

All ticket sales yesterday were completed by 10.30am apparently not that many in the queue just the regulars, around 100 full told. Unlike a few years ago when there were around 500 in the queue come 9am. Alot of people probably waiting to see if we qualify. Also the phone lines now open at 9am so people will probably use that option aswell.

Whilst agreeing that over time (and i am going to my 28th consecutive one this year) the ancillary attractions at the play off finals have gone up and back down the main reason for them stays the same - 3 important hockey matches! This is basically what they are there for! It is the hockey that is supposed to entertain you! And that will be the same whether they are held in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield or Glasgow.
In the old days (at Wembley) a good part of the side show were the stalls but back then that was the only time you could get stuff - now we all have the internet where you can source virtually everything that you would want and even if there were large numbers of stalls you would all expect internet prices so why would any trader really look to lose money given the increased costs of doing business ie renting the pitch against what it would cost to sell it on the internet? However, the reason for the weekend was(and all its entertainment came from) the hockey - mixing with fans from all the country.
A number of you are saying the the price of the tickets is too high - well if you look at that other oft quoted minority sport in the UK, Basketball, you would hate the prices for their end of season play-off final. Whilst it is played at the O2, tickets range from £167.25 inc fees to £51.25 inc fees (the higher price is for immediate courtside and the lower price for seats comparable with seating at the NIC (You can get cheaper but they are on level 4 nosebleed level or at each end of the court but a long way back!) And are these prices for a weekend? No, just one day with two games - the men's final and the women's final.
Now whether you go or don't go is totally your choice but in the end the weekend is basically about 3 games of hockey and you enjoying them (or not!)

In a way that's good to know considering I noticed on the Play Off Weekend page that's on the Arena Website that anyone purchasing tickets in opposing teams blocks may be moved if they haven't had prior written consent. That's fine but give me and other loyal Panther/Steeler fans a shot as soon as possible.

Just bought play off weekend tickets in block 5 this morning on the phone. You wouldn't have been able to do that a few years ago.

Would Wembley or Manchester not be a more ideal option? It wont move from Nottingham until the council stop funding it. Back in the day it was held at Wembley and those were by far the best PO finals and they used to get around 10,000, granted the Durham Wasps used to bring about 2000 and Fife well over a 1000 back in the day. Of course Heineken the league sponsors funded the event back then. If it was to move to another venue I would love to see it in Belfast, I would not be happy to see it in Sheffield as that Arena is not very nice, but ultimately I would prefer a neutral venue, but that would only happen with proper funding.

If one of the best things about the weekend is that you're allowed to go outside then it's probably not doing well. A number of you are saying the the price of the tickets is too high - well if you look at that other oft quoted minority sport in the UK, Basketball, you would hate the prices for their end of season play-off final. And are these prices for a weekend? No, just one day with two games - the men's final and the women's final. Yes, but that's completely obscene. It doesn't make any cheaper event better value by comparison. The weekend ticket is 30% more expensive than the three most expensive league tickets all season combined, and you've got no idea if your team is even going to be involved. And this is all without considering that the Notts council actually subsidises the event! At £87 for a weekend ticket it will be one of the biggest money-raisers of the year for the arena - why does it need subsidising and where does the money go? I'm not sure what case you're making. Half of your benefits listed have nothing to do with the arena or the event itself, one of them is the ability to go outside and the rest are what...friendly staff? You also mention good sightlines and comfy seats which is true, we definitely do have the best arena in the league but they're perfectly happy to only charge £17 for those seats most of the season... There's absolutely no justification for the league and the arena milking their fans dry every season. With all due respect, attitudes like yours are the exact reason why they charge what they charge. If you're happy to be ripped off then by all means do, but i've lost patience with it.

It's a interesting one, will I be there yes. Do I think it's value for money? No. It's costing 200 for me and my son and one night in a hotel that's before food.
When you compare it to rugby for example the premier game the grand final at Twickenham I took my boy to the final for cheaper than a adult ticket on the Sunday. There was a number of food outlets, things on sale, also activities for the children too.
