Enjoyed the game yesterday, plenty of good performances and a couple of bad ones from the usual suspects but overall the Panthers were the better team. Seems to me that if we match the Steelers workrate, we beat them. The only times they really got into the game was when the Panthers stepped off the gas. The officiating however was abysmal. I'm all for letting a game flow and ignoring some of the minor stuff but as usual the inconsistency is there for all to see, calling an infraction a penalty one minute but ignoring it the next. However, by far the worst two calls were the 2+10 given to Kolnik for checking to the head, he was nowhere near Eddy's head which was obvious to the whole arena as Eddy milked it by rolling around holding his knee. Even worse however was the 10 minute misconduct given to Farmer. Incitement is a penalty, albeit a rare one to give, but how exactly did Farmer incite Nelson? A man fond of the chespshot but obviously not so keen on paying for his actions. I would argue that Darnell just evened up the penalty, a fact made worse because incitement is a 2 minute minor, not a 10 minute misconduct penalty. Darnell's cosying up with the Steelers players and fans also grates, it may be harmless but conclusions will be drawn, rightly or wrongly. Finally, the linesman, number 38. The last 3/4 matches he has held is arm aloft for an icing call only to wave it off once the puck and players are behind the Panthers net. We then have to scramble about trying to clear the zone because everyone has relaxed expecting to play to be whistled down. Sort it out muppet.

Good and much needed win. Looked good at times and did just enough overall. Understandably took the foot off the gas at 5-1 but didn't look very competent at sitting on a lead. There's a difference between seeing out a game and inviting the opposition back into it, and Panthers did not get the balance right. Thought Dimmen, Swindlehurst and MacMillan were our standout players, and nice to see Clarke get a couple of goals. Officiating was awful throughout, refereeing not biased but so inconsistent while the linesmen seemed to be randomly waving off or calling icing as the mood took them. Darnell looked like a teletubby with that camera on his head, unfortunately he reffed like one too. Hopefully Lee's injury won't be too bad, his form has been poor lately but we can't afford to be playing short in the new year. Steelers' players and coach constantly whining to the officials at every stoppage of play was embarrassing. Thompson has finally found his spiritual home in Sheffield I feel. But hey, a deserved win over Steelers is always most welcome and hopefully it will give us some confidence for the coming matches.

Looks like some (relatively) good news on Stevie Lee. Let's hope that it's definitely not a serious injury.

It really saddens me to see some posters on here wanting Stevie Lee to sustain an injury, just because his passing isn't always tape to tape and has coughed up the puck in our zone from time to time. Arguably he's one of best Brit D men in the league, he still gives it 100% game in game out. Show me one Panther on the rosta who doesn't cough up the puck from time to time?
I'd like to see you go into the corners and fight for the puck or go to the boards at full speed for a 50/50 puck.
Call yourselves Panther fans... Not in my eyes!!!

I think there was only one who said it. Still one too many though. I merely pointed out the fact he was poor in that first period

I don't ever want to see any panthers player getting injured but i can totally see the silver lining this time. Lee has been poor this season! Coughing up the puck for time to time is a bit of an understatment. He has been terrible for it this season its been my one huge gripe with him all year. He just doesnt get his head up. He keeps doing this blind back hand pass when hes in the corner and it keeps getting picked off. He did it twice yesterday before he left the game. I hope this stint on the sidelines may be a blessing in disguise and he comes back playing his simple physical game that he used to play. Because your right that on his day he is one of britans best d men... but not right now hes not.

I do think stevie's passiNg has been poor this season but think he's played too many minutes big step up for him from say 20 to 35 mins a game in tough situations Hopefully this will be be time well invested for years ahead.

I don't think there are many players in our league that could have made the pass Ling made for Clarke's PP goal. The guy is a pleasure to watch.
Decent finish from David Clarke as well.....

Ling didn't even look. He knew Clarke was in the slot. Took 3 steelers players out with that pass. Quite ridiculous

Wow! Steelers request a review on Wiikman... Only one outcome there, at least DOPS are letting us know by lunchtime tomorrow so we can prepare properly!

I thought this would happen as Thompson kept on saying that he hit Hewitt with his blocker!! He pushed him with his hands, if he gets a ban for that it will be outrageous. Loads of extra's in this week, going to be busy. Do we know who the guy who reviews these cases? Someone on twitter posted that they thought it was Paul Thompson's mate, who was originally coming to be the assistant coach. Apparently it is someone outside the UK, so would make sense if this was true.

Ling didn't even look. He knew Clarke was in the slot. It's a better pass if he does have a look, which it looks to me on the video like he clearly does. Brave to skate behind the goal when Clarke's taking a slapshot too... This review nonsense is getting out of hand. For all teams. Really hope they take it away next season. Dulling down the game imo. Tend to agree, I think if they want to do the whole DOPS thing they need to cough up some cash to pay someone (some people) to watch every game back on tape and decide whether there's anything that needs looking at. Leaving it to teams makes it tactical which defeats the stated object - player safety. I think Rugby Union has a citing commissioner (or something like that) who does that job.

He spends so much time complaining about everybody else. Pathetic. It is pretty clear that Wiikman did nothing wrong there. Darnell had good vision on it and its the sort of thing that I would have expected Darnell to penalise if he had seen something worthy of a penalty to Wiikman. If it had been the reverse with a Panthers playing going in strong and hacking at the Sheffield goalie then I wouldn't have demanded a penalty for the goalie hitting in reaction. That's what happens when you go at the goalie. It's hockey.

Watching it at the time, I was surprised that Wiikman didn't get a penalty called, but frankly more amazed that Janssen didn't attract at least a couple of minutes. Not sure that either of them are in need of review though. Just part of the game. The trouble with all this calling for reviews is that it costs money, and it is wide open to be petty and vindictive, which is ideally suited to be a stick beaten by Sheffield and Belfast. lastly, and just IMO, Thommo is an idiot. He was at Coventry, and he has perfected his art. Plus, through his thorough coaching, his team are a bunch of whiney cheapshotters too.
