Game on Friday cancelled today as one direction rescheduled.
Talk about short notice.

Got to feel a little sorry for Steelers fans who have shelled out for hotels etc for the Friday game but...in light of their team's recent 'good idea'...
Perhaps a caption competition, with a picture of a Steelers fan sat bored to tears in their Belfast hotel room on Friday night?
Ah, schadenfreude, my favourite German word.

Thanks to the Giants for giving us free tickets when we have already purchased them for the Saturday.

Thought that Giants were owned by the arena so they probably had no choice in the matter - sympathise with Steelers fans (it could so easily have happened to us) just how they will get compensation if any we will have to wait and see. - could be an interesting scenario if there are any suspensions etc. that could have affected any of the games.

Perhaps I'm reading that release differently but I can't see anything about compensating the Steelers fans for their travel/accommodation, just compensating the Steelers (team) for their costs. As I can see it the only bone they're throwing out which might hit their pocket is complimentary tickets for the 130 or so Steelers fans who are expected Saturday night, and whilst that is a nice gesture I'm sure they throw around far more free tickets than that regularly. As far as all the other guff (money off at Frankie and Benny's, Odyssey Cinema and Titanic Belfast), the first is a Giants sponsor and has such offers all the time, the second comes under the umbrella of the Odyssey Trust (the people ultimately responsible for this situation) and I can't imagine late-October is boom time for visitors to the latter. So, compensate the Steelers team, throw some titbits at the actual fans. Nice.

I'm not sure that's the case tootoo, would be incredibly harsh otherwise.

I think Toots is reading it correctly, don't think they're paying any fan travel expenses, just the club's, hence giving them stuff to do on the Friday night. The complementary tickets offer seems a bit odd too, do many people travel to Belfast without having purchased tickets already?

Looks like Giants have now got their rivalry set up - they have been chirping on about the NFNF rivalry for years - they now have the 1DNS (one direction not Steelers) - just hope no-one plays any 1D music at the game on Saturday, that would be rubbing salt into the wounds.

Tony must, wisely, have no faith in his team "Paul will get it right - if he can’t do that who could..." Gerad Adams?

Thats a pretty low trick. Actually from their match at NIC, they didn't seem to be that far away from getting it right.

I certainly wouldn't have wanted 2 points that way, but I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for a forfeit, especially if it was used as a negotiating position to get a better compensation deal for the Steelers supporters.
What people need to remember is that Odyssey Trust own both the arena and the Giants.
This game was postponed with 48 hours notice, which makes it different to other cancellations/moved games that weren't as a result of an Act of God.
Theoretically injuries/suspensions could have been factored into this decision. Who is to say that the Giants part of the business didn't fight hard to keep the game on because they were missing players?
Belfast's relationship with their arena is completely different to that of the Steelers and Panthers, because we're both stand alone businesses with a Landlord and Tenant agreement.
However he got there, I think Tony did the right thing by the supporters and got them a reasonable level of compensation.

David Simms @simmsey 2h2 hours ago Excuse me but where did this £250 come from for compensation. Fact. We never asked for £250 we only ever asked for £100. We did ask for other things to ensure we got what we wanted (£100) & we were right to do that. Our job is to stand up for our fans who were mistreated.if you are a fan of another club who has gone through something similar & your club didn't fight for you that's not our fault.Been sent some tweets that the big girl Wheeler sent out. You expect any different comments from him? He is clueless and faceless. He wasn't around the table (as we were) he also isn't used to someone standing up for him as we did our fans. He is used to just typing from a key board and scream blue murder like a 5 year old girl. I'm proud of the results we obtained as a club. Reiner the key fact here which is different to every other game cancellation. The Belfast Giants owners cancelled this game. Not a third party not a broken rink or bus. That is the key point. It was cancelled without Board approval that any game cancelled within. 4 week period of a game has to have. Belfast are paying compensation for showing the league and the sport no respect. If it was to any other club the response would be different.
I think most would agree that compensation for the cancellation is fair. Its the "request" for the 2 points which has got people going.
The "Wheeler" mentioned is I think a Cov fan who goes by something like Fourth wing on twitter. I am sure the "big girl" stuff is appropriate.

The "Wheeler" mentioned is I think a Cov fan who goes by something like Fourth wing on twitter. The request for 2 points may have been an effort to get more out of Belfast. You ask for £100 only and the Giants may compromise by offering £75. You ask for £100 and 2 points the Giants may be happy to hand over £100 as long as they don't lose the 2 points. There is also an integrity issue that's not been discussed. Who is to say that a full strength Belfast might not have resisted this decision by their parent company? It may well have suited the Giants to have this game called off, therefore it does become more than just a financial issue, but also a playing issue. I guess that's the complication the Giants have being owned by their landlords. At least with the Steelers and Panthers there's a clear differential between landlord and tenant, because they're completely different businesses. Regards Doom

I'm sorry, but Tony Smith is a complete and total BANKER!
It's getting worse with every story like this that gets published.
"Oh look at us Steelers, we're being picked on wah wah wah". Get bent.
I hope his request for the 2 points & £250 was voted 9-1 against.

I'm all in favour of the fans being compensated. If it were me, I wouldn't want to be £100-£200 out of pocket or whatever the figure is.
But come on, who does Smith think he is, asking for the points? Maybe should've gone to DOPS
Department Of Points to Steelers
The guy is a Turd.

I would be completely opposed to us getting points that way, but only Tony Smith knows why he asked for that to be considered. Maybe he does genuinely think the game should be forfeited. One of my friends certainly thinks that should have been the case due to the lateness and reasoning behind the postponement. Maybe he knew he wouldn't get the points, but used it as part of his negotiating stance to get a better deal for the supporters. Regardless of the reasons, as far as I'm concerned the correct result was reached. The game is still to be played and the Steelers supporters got a reasonable amount of compensation. Regards Doom

If #twopointtony is trying to gain points this way, then he doesn't rate your team very highly. Since the season started you've had it easy with regards to playing teams understrength week after week, now want free 2 points, and still languish well off the pace.... doesn t look good does it

Surely the Steelers fans were compensated enough by having a hockey-free night in Belfast on the Friday?!?!
Party time.
