So last season Panthers signed their players early, and pretty much got taken to task for doing so on here.
We were missing out on potentially good players who were still at training camps, waiting on the hope of good contract offers or generally keeping their options open.
Our friends up the M1 have already completed their squad, probably earlier than we did last season.
To me, they do not look as offensive as last season, and I would have expected better. They are over reliant on Dowd and O'Connor (and we saw last season the impact of long term injuries to good Brits), and will probably need to have a much better penalty kill unit than last year.
Could or should they have done better, or perhaps held on for a final couple of players?

With the CHL I don't think you have much option than to sign fairly early. What Panthers got taken to task for last year was for signing a very poor team, but the excuse offered was that good players wouldn't sign early.
In my opinion,i don't think the Steelers look that good this year,I was expecting much better from them bearing in mind the CHL. However, compared to what we signed last season their team is of far far higher quality than Panthers collection of misfits last year !

Besides they have the Bulldog! How does he stay in a job at Steelers? I can only assume he has a hell of a portfolio of incriminating evidence to use as leverage come contract renewal time.

Could or should they have done better, or perhaps held on for a final couple of players? I think compared to last season we're similar offensively, but perhaps have a bit more scoring depth due to the additional import (I see that being Legue). I don't see a problem with signing a team up early, Dave Matsos did it a few seasons ago and we won the league quite comfortably. it's not when you sign the players, it's the quality of the players and the team dynamic that matters. Corey got it wrong last year for you folks, I'm hoping Paul Thompson has got it right for us. What I find interesting this season is that we've declined the use of any of our 3 Uni places. I find that a little disappointing, because you can attract that higher calibre of player with the promise of a degree at the end of their stay. Maybe Paul Thompson thinks studying and hockey is too much at once for most players and wants all ours to be fully focussed on the hockey. Regards Doom

He's always been a decent penalty killer with a lot of energy, but I guess the main reason now is that he's as cheap as chips. Regards Doom

Looks to me like we signed our physical players early on, Corey admitted that we lacked toughness last season. It's interesting that we have the D in place already & have the skill positions left to fill.
I do wonder how much wonga we have left, imagine Peckham wasn't cheap you know.

Pretty sure the majority of the players are already signed. The delay is just a 70's marketing ploy to coincide with the last season ticket date.

I was thinking this. possible that these imminent announcements will coincidently come to light after the 23rd June when the season ticket deadline is less than a week away.

How many of you wear tin foil helmets? They do it every year dude. Make all the funny comments you want but the club is full of gimmicks like holding out on announcing signings to make the most money.

It might be good business NYR,but it's bloody annoying as a fan to feel you are being treated like a fool and played like a fiddle. Which is exactly the reason a once avid avid fan like me who doesn't miss a game is often thinking of walking away from Panthers for good.
And I'm sure I'm not the only one........Now that isn't good business !

Couldn't give a monkeys if it is I'm just saying it's become a transparent and tired tactic which is the Panthers back offices specialty it would seem. Bit like announcing key player injuries after the gates have opened as they know it could hurt sales. Thank god the on ice product is looking good so far.

So are we suggesting if the signings are announced they won't be very good, and people won't buy a season ticket?
If we have signed a quality player, then there is no sense in delaying an announcement.
Or is it neither of the above?

They can trot out all the gimmicks and 'what have you' they like but if they put out an on ice product like the crap we endured last season, people will vote with their feet.
Recruitment so far is looking good. I'll put up with as much spin and GM drivel as is possible, provided that we have a team to be proud of.

It's evident what their marketing strategy is and they're playing it out, so what? It's not hurting anything or anybody. It just makes sense to spread out the signings even if you take out the season ticket deadline, if out whole roster was announced now you'd be looking at 2 months of content about shirts, new sponsors, sponsors re-signing etc. and people would complain about that, it's a lose lose situation. There is no right and wrong when it comes to 'when should you announce your signings' (if they are in fact already signed). Personally I couldn't give a monkies when they're announced (before or after season ticket deadlines) so long as they are.
