You don't need to worry about that, since you say that's a pointless argument I've made, then by your own logic Clan's loss last night is also equally pointless in the Conference debate. We got an early goal last night and stopped playing after that until we went 3-1 down, by then it was too late to do something meaningful about it. So congrats to the Blaze taking advantage on the night, and putting in a much needed good shift. Disappointed to see how heavy the schedules have became for the clubs who have made the Semi-Finals, it seems to be a tradition each year now that there has to be some sort of farce required for this competition. I'd be all for making the first 8 games of the season CC only, getting rid of the QF stage, and having the Final 1st weekend of December in a neutral venue. Assuming the teams all play each other and not in groups? My idea is under the assumption it's still under the current groups, you could have them done by end of September, do the Semi games by Novemeber and then there's a full month to give fans time for the Final. Realistic though I don't see the powers that be doing all that much if anything.

It's a good idea to get all the cup games played very early on.
But there's no way the owners or fans will go for the first eight games of the season, because cup games are generally not season ticket games, therefore the crowds will be low if tickets for the first eight games all had to be paid for one after the other.
It does get very silly the way the cup drags on though, every year the league say it won't next season, but here we are again when it will be the end of Feb before the finalists are even known.

Ok to have a league structure that you benefit from but 'hey that Cup competition is all wrong'....
