Mike Ellis got canned with a challenge cup and .500 hockey... just sayin' Gary Moran did'nt get on with Mike Ellis tho Yotes. No way should Corey go. Im sure he'll turn things around next season if hes given the budget to sign some quality.

I've not been in love with how we've played this year but hope for better next. It is pretty amusing this started on the day he became the statistical best

One more season to get it right again in the league. A 24-24 season is shocking for a club in panthers position. I guess if he wins 2 trophy a again this season all will be good, but I would like us to be better in the league. We've managed to be in league contention after Christmas like once.

I am not sure what CN is supposed to do when players are absent injured or banned and he has to play catch up mid season trawling for players - when the best are tied up.

Or are you saying you want a grand slam or there out the door.

Coreys interview with Premier was quite interesting yesterday. Very honest and quite critical of this years team although he also admitted the players brought in didnt play as he had expected them to so they had to adjust tactically.

So we're a few wins off 2nd and because 1 team has well and truly destroyed the league and the rest of the "lower ranked teams" have improved making the league harder in the same season we lost the best Netminder in the league for 3 months, the best defencman of last season broke his leg, and only we've only had a full strength squad for 3 games (all of which involved the CC) then we should sack Corey? Are you WANTING us to become Sheffield? You know that saying "you don't know what you've got till its gone"? I'm not looking forward to the day we find out when Corey does leave...

It is indeed truly shocking that a team that has had so many players in and out and no chance to ice consistent lines has achieved a .500 record.

Lets not forget this team came agonizingly close to the final group stage of the continental cup and IS in the challenge cup final. Playoffs? Who knows. Yes the league campain has been a bit if a mess but there is still plenty left to play for this season.

Scotty Bowman would have struggled to coach this team past .500 hockey with all the injuries.

I think some people are in danger of laying it on a bit thick in their defence of Corey, yes we've had a lot of injuries, but we've also brought in good replacements by and large, and a lot of them, and we're playing in a league where there's only really 1 quality opponent this year, who have run away with it.
I doubt Corey thinks this league campaign has been near good enough, and I'm sure he'll do better next year, but he should still be required to attain a certain level despite his past success. Cup finals and playoff wins are very nice, but the league is afterall the lion's share of what we do, and the true test of the team.
None of the above means I want rid of him, but neither do I think he should be beyond a critical eye.

Sorry, but for me yes it is time for him to go. I think he was lucky last year. He still has no plan B, has never signed a decent face off winning centre and leaves a decent D man with no shifts at all yesterday even when Steve Lee is inured.... too much of a USA/Canadian Import snob for me We won't win anything this year.... you will see.

If hes an import snob why is he involved in TeamGB and why was he singing the praises of Clarke, Lacho and Weaver yesterday?

I must admit, I was a bit surprised to see Norton sat warming the bench for the entire game yesterday.
We were 2 (Benedict and Boxill) forwards down and apparently have 2 or 3 forwards playing injured. Yet, we have another forward (Loyns) playing on D while Norton warms the bench.
We had 6 D including Norton and before Lee went off injured. Even without Lee, we didn't see Norton on the ice.
All seems a bit odd to me.

From whence I've made observations on face-offs, Loyns has been our greatest face-off winner. Norton has also been prety steady on D, and even scored a couple of blue-liners iirc. As you say, seems a bit odd (unless Norts is carrying an injury that he wants to avoiding risking, ... unless absolutely necessary?)

It's all part of a cunning plan with our lines, to fool the opposition come playoff and CC Final time.

I'm not dismissive of the question being asked. I'm sure Corey is ambitious to test himself at a higher level than the EIHL and one day he will go, but I hope he doesn't do so yet. He and Strachs oversaw a fantastic season last year and together with the medics and physios are the reason we are where we are this year in what has been an incredibly difficult season. Corey is in a position at the moment where he can move on on his own terms. I hope that continues for a while yet. Thankyou Stef. Lucid, erudite and entirely correct in all respects (IMHO of course).

Lets hope if he does move on then we sign another coach without a plan B because I haven't seen ay other coach in this league win as many trophies as he has even with a plan A,B and C. He wasn't just lucky last year he put together a great team and changed players mid season to make that team better, picked lines that worked well had systems in place to beat all the teams in front of them. I think you are being damn right disrespectful of Neilson's coaching capabilities stating that last season he got lucky.

Give me a 5 seasons as panthers coach and I will still be in the title race after Christmas in at least one of them.
I don't think he should go, but if he wins nothing this season and starts the next one badly, then yes.
