I seem to recall that a year or two ago, a certain talking rectum / hockey guru (delete according to preference) from up the road lambasted the Panthers for going up to one of the Scottish teams and beating them by a large margin (9-3 or something like that). Apparently it's against some kind of 'Code' to humiliate a team on their own ice by running up such a huge score in front of their own fans.
Last night's score from Murrayfield... Edinburgh Capitals 3, Sheffield Steelers 10.
So - what about this 'Code' thing, then...?

Unfortunately the code had to be suspended as it also contains such ridiculous statements as: 'To claim a Grand Slam, 100% of trophies must be won in the same season, not 75%' ;-) :-p Haha :-)

Not easy though, when you've been doing it for 10 yrs plus hey Shaggy.

"Obsessed", eh?
How come it's perfectly fine for a large number of the Sheffield contingent (NOT just DS The BS, though he's the gobbiest) to slag us off at every opportunity, bring up the past at every turn, etc etc... and that's all 'banter' or 'helping the rivalry'... but any time something goes back the other way it's "obsessed"? Double standards all the way with your lot.
Oh, and Andrew1972... I am neither obsessed with, nor possessed of a hatred for, "everything Sheffield"... I have friends in the Steelers fanbase (hell, I've got a customer who's a Steelers fan - have regular laughs with him). If I were, would I not have been slagging you lot off incessantly for the latest round of cockerel-ups? (ice colour, plexi, parking, etc etc). Now how did I pass up that opportunity? Then, of course, there's the amazing lack of taking the mick out of your lot for the 4-1 defeat last Sunday. Served up on a plate, that one... how could I possibly resist? Try using your brain Andrew, instead of reading off the script. Makes you sound like you work in a call centre.
But can anyone answer my question? (nice try on the avoidance techniques, but no cigar). Has this supposed 'Code' changed? Or doesn't it count if it's the Steelers? Or can it only be invoked by the truly "obsessed" person in all of this... Sheffield's own PR gob?

It only counts if you're the Nottingham Panthers. It's a clause usually invoked by mardarses who can't accept they aren't the centre of the universe anymore.

It was ridiculous when it was said and it still is, you can only beat what is in front you. Just as Steelers did last night. Shame its only complained about when its Panthers doing it but thats never going to change so might aswell move swiftly on.
On another note the rivalry is pretty much none existent between Panthers and Steelers these days anyway.

It sounds like the code doesn't apply the game after you've lost to the Panthers .
Just to bring it off topic slightly, anybody notice the hatred towards Panthers following the goal that wasn't?
Anybody wouldn't have thought that the Panthers had paid the ref off or something. The fella who does the Blaze webcast was particularly unbalanced and it makes you realise how bad things are sometimes.

Sent from my HTC One using proboards Its just an excuse for the same old "anyone but panthers.." Still havent seen anyone else point out that Panthers also suffered due to poor officiating, a huge amount of penalties called against us and 3 goals scored 5 on 3... had there been a different level of officiating Fife may have won.. however Fife may have also not had 3 5 on 3 goals...

Better, more consistent refereeing may have resulted in Panthers winning the game in regulation but don't let that get in the way of another dig at the Panthers. As for the Blaze webcast muppet, like a good chunk of their fanbase, great at dishing it out, not so good at taking it.

That webcast guy is a grade A idiot he's been on one all day on twitter about the thing . And won't let it drop it's like he's been waiting all summer for the first chance of a dig at panthers and perhaps also Coventry won on the Same day .

I'd go as far to say that Paul Wheeler is a bigger douche than Dave Simms. As much as DS the BS can annoy at least he tries to better UK hockey as a whole, Wheeler is just a blinkered Coventry fan who peddles the same tripe with a different paint job as often as he can.

Seems a reasonable question posed by Shaggy to be fair.
One that (to date) nobody of a teal and orange persuasion has managed to answer. If you exclude their snide remarks of course

Hey, come on... that's a bit out of order. He helped his club out when they needed it (praying, no doubt, that they wouldn't actually need him in nets!) - and backup netminders (and other players who may or may not actually ice) usually get counted for stuff like that, even in the top league in the world. Nothing wrong with that one.

If he is going to post smarmy comments on a Panthers forum though then surely he has to expect some coming his way, given that he is (after all) an ex-player of that team up the road that keeps going bust?

If he is going to post smarmy comments on a Panthers forum though then surely he has to expect some coming his way, given that he is (after all) an ex-player of that team up the road that keeps going bust? Nothing smarmy in my post at all, as everyone who knows me will attest. It's called banter, something that most people recognise and enjoy :-) Thanx Shaggy, I often wonder how many on here if the call ever came would turn it down. Not many I would wager. The medals are presented to many in the club and as a registered player you get one if you play a certain number of games; if you are on the game sheet, you 'played'. This is of course primarily for backups many of whom get no actual game time but who's commitment still needs recognising. I of course did not play the requisite games but there is another method, team managers or coaches can apply to the league and ask for medals to be awarded in exceptional circumstances, the league though have the final say. Given that without my stepping in at the eleventh hour (I am under no illusions what so ever as to the circumstances that lead them to ask me) both opening games would have been forfeit 0-5 for not having a backup; Ben thought it exceptional enough to apply and the league agreed. Club staff also get medals, just as in the US they get championship rings etc. Having worked my balls off that season I would qualify anyway; or would you like to suggest GM should return his? Good luck with that.... People can have a dig, it bothers me not. I got to live the dream for one weekend and no amount of spite or jealousy will erase the smile from my face every time I have cause to recall those few days :-) It was one of your very own who very generously framed my very own Steelers shirt and medal for free as well, which just topped the whole thing off. And I printed off all the threads from all the forums that were posted about it, including the one off here. I know Shaggy and he knows me, I am confident he took my post in the manner it was intended, as a bit of banter. For whats its worth, I think it is a legitimate question, but again, I would hope Shaggy understands why I am not in a position to answer it directly, but I'm sure as and when we bump into each other we will have a chat about it. Thanx :-)

You don't need to explain yourself on here mate, no one would turn down opportunity to play for their pro club, it's something most can only dream of.

Just to add, this code thing is bull....
It was bull when Simms first mentioned it, and it's bull now. You go out and you win by many as possible, who know if goal difference comes into play, you can't afford to take your foot off the gas.
Simms is a hypocrite, so what's new?
