Since it started today, right here in rather overcast Nottingham.
England batting, 102-3 just after lunch. Bit of an incongruous start.

Tea on day 2, Eng already 2 down for 11. First ball after tea will be Starc's chance of a hattrick.

Trott fuming over his LBW decision apparently. He is adamant that he hit the ball. Only the 'front' hotspot view was used as the side on view was unavailable. How can the 3rd umpire be 100% certain that he hasn't hit the ball?

How can the 3rd umpire be 100% certain that he hasn't hit the ball? I've not seen it yet, but Michael Vaughan seems pretty convinced he hit it. If the on-field ump had given it out I think you could understand him not overruling it (snicko picked up nothing), but does seem a bit odd to change the decision with one of the key pieces of evidence missing. Anyway, things have settled a bit, 49/2.

Anyway, things have settled a bit, 49/2. Whatever the onfield umpire had decided in this instance, the 3rd umpire had to stick with it. As the onfield umpire (Aleem Dar) said not out then that call should have stood. The job of the 3rd umpire is to only overrule the onfield decision if he is 100% certain that an error has been made. Without the side on hotspot view there is no way he can make such a call. He's had a shocker there and not surprisingly the ECB have asked the Match Referee to explain what happened.

What a match!
Feeling a bit sunburnt and hung-over this morning but I reckon it's probably the best £20 I have ever spent.
Well done England and especially Jimmy Anderson.

Good start this morning(!), Cook, Root and KP all gone, Eng 33-3 after 10 overs at the moment.
Finn out, Bresnan in for us. They drop Cowan and Starc for Khawaja and Harris.

Recovered it quite well, closed day one on 289-7, 109 for Bell with decent contributions from Bairstow and Trott. Could be worse.

Still far from convinced by Bairstow. The media were doing my nut in yesterday when we lost a few early. New ball in does a bit shocker......

Seriously? Stuart Broad needs a Nightwatchman?

He probably doesn't NEED one but I suppose its just about getting as many runs from the lower order as possible.

Broad (33) and Swann (28*) gave them a bit of tap for the last wicket to get us to 361 all out.

Handy runs (last wicket partnership of 48) from the Notts boys and much needed - 350 minimum on this track. Now let Jimmy at em

Aussies in all sorts of trouble, 96-7, still well short of the follow on.

128 all out. Swann with a 5 wicket haul.
233 runs behind, England not enforcing the follow on.

I think it's because it's (despite both 1st innings scores) still a good batting wicket, and we don't want to bat on it last as it'll likely deteriorate. So you don't want them to bat well and set a good target, and then have to chase it on a wicket that starts to do more, so just get a huge lead (500+) and - hopefully - knock them over.

Great stuff from Root yesterday. Hopefully we can knock them round the park for an hour this morning, let Root have the chance of a double ton and get the lead above 600 and then get into them before lunch.
