Am I right in thinking that the guy that does the playoff announcing has not done any other game in Nottingham this season?
I know we got a bit of grief last year by other teams for using "our" announcer at the finals.
(They can moan all they like this year if we play the intro video from Tuesday night)

Spot on Shorty - he hasn't done any MC-ing for the Panthers this year! Makes no odds to the serial moaners - he's linked to Neil Black therefore he's tainted. And if Stef does the stats announcing as normal, that'll get them moaning. It's in our building, so we're supposedly cheating anyway... obviously we've bribed all of the officials, spiked the other teams' water, deliberately screwed up the ticket sales so it'll be mostly Panthers fans, nobbled the DJ, blah blah blah.

But we still have Stef reading OUR penalties! That's at least like a 3-goal advantage to us...

Here is something these bitter little rival fans never adaquetly explain. The play offs have been held at the NIC for ten seasons now, yet how come (if the Panthers have such a huge advantage) they've only won it three times previously (the same number of times as Sheffield have won the play offs at the NIC)?

To be fair though the Panthers do have a huge advantage playing at home in their own rink. The players can sleep in their own beds at night as well as eating their own food. This is before you take out bus legs, leaving home at stupid o'clock, sitting in your own stall in the locker room etc etc etc.
As for announcers, off-ice officials etc it's up to EIHL to provide them I believe so no crookedness there either.
In terms of venues to hold POFW then there are really only two cost efficient options, NIC and Motorpoint. I guess that NIC just make a better offer to EIHL. Other venues could be sourced, such as MEN or the NEC/NIA in Birmingham but it would be prohibitively expensive due to ice making facilities and such like.
Lets face it Panthers fans, you'd have something to say if it was on SHeffield's door step every season.

I was talking about EIHL-era, but if you drag in the ISL, yes, the evidence against Panthers having some massive advantage is even more shaky.

go to a proper playoff as all other leagues do and u wouldn't have this issue. I'd love to see a proper play-off series but it really isn't practical. If it were a best of seven series can you imagine the conversation between teams and their respective arenas/rinks? Team - "Err, yes, we'd like to secure arena time for March/April." Arena - "Ok, what dates do you need because we have a few concerts on." Team - "Well provisionally we'll need at least four dates because we may be seeded first, dependant on final league position, but we may need as little as two if we win our first four games." Arena - "What? " Team - "Then if we get past the quarter finals we'll need to do the same for the semi-finals..." Arena - "And the finals?" Team - "Yes, you've got it." Arena - "So you want to book up to 12 lots of ice time but you may only need 2 of them, if you get swept in the quarter finals? " Team - "Yes." Arena - "Do one, before I set the dogs on you. " It just isn't practical as things currently stand with arena/rink usage and perhaps more importantly, team funds.

Don't know about other panthers fans but I'd quite like the chance to have a playoff weekend away from Nottingham but a better venue needs to be found first

Would alternating between Belfast, Nottingham and Sheffield be considered or would the venues want long term contracts to make it viable for them?

I would like it to be alternated. Every year there seems to be less and less. Outside was a bit better this year with the games and the food and drink stations. But there could be alot more tbh.
No fireworks No cheerleaders (why not get Varsity girls ?) Cheaper tickets to fill the arena
I am sure theres more just cant think atm

I would love to see the finals at a neutral venue. it would certainly stop the complaints from the "non panthers" fans.
If the Elite League wanted it, the 02 in London or MEN arena in Manchester maybe viable options. Tickets prices could then be knocked down to something like £40 for wkend for Adults earlybird / £50 normal price. A lot more revenue would be taken from merchandise, food & drinks etc.

I think when you consider how many Panthers fans are at the playoffs each year then I'm guessing this sways the location decision. If it were up the M1 do you think you'd get as many steelers fans as we do Panthers fans here, I don't think you would. Apply that anywhere else and then it suddenly doesn't make sense money wise. I don't think it's coincidence that we have the highest average crowd and the playoffs are here.
Personally I'd love to have it at Belfast, great venue, but unless they start doing free hotels and flights you wouldn't get near to the crowd we have this weekend.

If not neutral, then maybe alternate it year on year between the arena venues is another alternative to look at.
Though ticket prices should still be reviewed; cos need to get as close as possible to a sell out.
I was surprised how many empty seats there was yesterday.

A lot more revenue would be taken from merchandise, food & drinks etc. This comes up every year. The o2 is 20,000 seat venue. We get barely 5000 a day for the NIC. You couldnt do it for £40 or £50 as you would make a huge loss. Tickets would need to be around £300 for the weekend to make it work. Similar issues at Manchester

There is no real viable alternative. Until there is the whingers will just have to suck it up.

Motorpoint has to do something about their seating before the PlayOffs is held there.
Belfast would be more than fine, albeit the most expensive option for 9/10 teams fan bases.

I feel a problem (among others) with both the Motorpoint and Odyssey arenas is the rake of the seats. The angle of the seating isn't steep enough, placing the crowd a fair distance from the ice very quickly as you move towards the back of the block. I know some people dislike the steepness of the NIC but it places everyone closer to the action.
